Before I go on to talking about the tournament, I would like to first say a few random comments that I have. First, to anyone who cares about such things, I came up with name the name of SquirelE a few years ago, and I discovered the reports of BigSpooky because of this similarity. Also I am not currently having a job (only 17) so until this summer (since I have taking all of the money that I could from my bank account to buy some of these, and that was not much) when I plan to get a part time job. So for those of you who wish to talk about how bad my deck is, give me money or do not talk. If anyone sends me derogatory emails, expect them to be deleted with the rest of the spam I get.

I got there a bit over an hour before the tournament (forgot they had moved them to two o’clock instead of one). Bought some cards and played against some people. One person I dueled used a Gravity Bind, which worked to their disadvantage as I brought out my Killer Squirrels with equips and destroyed his life points. Soon after this, they had us line up to find out who we were playing first round.

Match 1 SquirelE vs. Alec (random deck)

Duel 1

This duel was completely one-sided. He was a little kid with a huge deck and a lot of weak monsters. I kept on the offense and he could not throw down enough defending monsters to save him.

Me 8000 him 0

Duel 2

Very similar to the first one, he got out no strong monsters (he was using lvl 2s 3s and weak 4s and 5s). After destroying him, I suggested that he get some stronger monsters and slim down his deck.

Me 8000 him 0

Match 2 SquirelE vs. Charlie (some type of beatdown)

Duel 1

I knew that I was going to have to work for victory this time, but the first game, he obviously didn’t get a good draw. His monsters slowed me down some but after I got Jinzo and Barrel Dragon out, my victory was practically assured. I only got some damage this duel because my Overdrive attacked a Giant Soldier of Stone.

Me 7600 him 0

Duel 2

Early on he was really thrashing me, I could not keep a monster out and his Harpies and La Jinns ripped off 7000 of my life before I made my come back. When he attacked my Cyber Jar, he got no creatures and I got four. I got my Barrel dragon out and destroyed his monsters with that and attacked with Nimble Momongas. The third monster he set, something about his smile and posture told me that I needed to have Barrel’s effect work this time (the last several turns, I kept flipping tails). Flip, heads! He winces. Flip, tails. He smiles. Flip, tails. No! If it was a Flip monster, I knew he would activate it next turn, so I call his bluff and attack...HIS Cyber Jar! My Magician of Faith that I got could not stand against the four monsters he had received and he finished off my life points.

Me 0 him 4000

Duel 3

I would bring out some creatures and start attacking him, then he would clear the field and bring out a La Jinn or Harpies Brother and attack. Eventually it got down to where we were both at about 5000 life points and I sacrificed my two monsters for my Barrel Dragon. He only had one monster on the field and I had a Limiter Removal in my hand. Going for the win, I used Barrel Dragon’s effect. Flip, heads. Flip, tails. Flip....heads! Then Barrel ripped through the last of his life points.

Match 3 SquirelE vs. Magic (Exodia)

Before moving on to the duels, I would like to say a few things about my first tournament and the conversation Magic and I had before we dueled. The last time I had come to this tournament, I had entered and immediately faced an Exodia deck. This guy John then throttled me twice in a row because I made a single error on my last turns (did not use traps I had to destroy his traps he had). John then continued on in that tournament to get second. Magic before this duel started did two things; first he promised that he had switched his Exodia deck with a Beatdown and second told me that he was in the top 5 of the store.

Duel 1

As soon as I saw him bring out a Witch, I knew he had lied and started to panic. Like a drowning man, I did things that did not make sense and could not do any real damage. I tried activating traps with Jinzo out and flipping monsters I had sacrificed. When he showed me the 5 pieces I was not surprised.

Lost by Exodia

Duel 2

This duel, I started to think straight. In my first hand I got Card Destruction, but I planned to wait until he had three or four pieces in his hand which would allow me to use the Soul Release I had side-decked in, effectively defeating any real possibility for him to win. Sadly, on my last turn, instead of using Card Destruction, flipping my Magician and using Card Destruction again or some other magic card again, I sacrificed her for a Jinzo and let Magic go. He promptly attacked the Jinzo with his Sangan to get his last piece.

Lost by Exodia

For all of you who wish to know, Magic did then continue on to get second in the tournament, losing only to Tim Hohle, the store champ. There may be a pattern developing here, and I am going to break it in the next tournament.

Props

-to the kid I beat for being a good sport

-to Charlie for the best duels I have ever had (not like that is saying much)

-to the store for hosting it and selling individual cards cheaper than Ebay

-to BigSpooky, who helped me immensely in the early stages of this decks construction

-to Limiter Removal, Nimble Momonga and Card Destruction, my three favorite cards, because they gave the opportunity to win every game, even if I did not use it

-to Pojo.com for being a great website that is fun to visit

-to me for finally writing a report (will write one about my next tourney, I went late to the last one I went to and had to play a guy with a great dragon deck that completely slaughtered me, I now have some LON cards that I added to the deck and my bro’s HFD)

Slops

-to Magic for lying to me, he would have won anyway, he did not need to be cheap

-to the heat for nearly melting the card covers that touched the wooden tables

-to me for waiting so long to send to Pojo

-to my bro for running away the Monday after this tourney which is the reason it took so long (finally found him later in the week but it messed up my whole schedule of things)
