Subject: Lifeburn Deck--The Mighty Mollusk--Major League Memories--Riverside, RI Date: March 22, 2003 Location: Major League Memories, Riverside, RI Number of Participants: 10 Structure: Match format (2 out of 3) Wow, haven't typed up a tournament report in a while. Mainly because I've been using beatdown and Exodia for a while, and I don't think people really need to hear much more about those. Everyone knows those decks work. This time I decided to try something different. And it worked. Now let me introduce you to my Lifeburn deck.... Monsters: 2x Fire Princess 3x Princess of Tsurugi 2x Cannon Soldier 2x Magician of Faith 2x Nimble Momonga 3x Giant Germ 2x Sangan 1x Witch of the Black Forest 1x Mask of Darkness 1x Cyber Jar 1x Penguin Soldier Magic: 1x Raigeki 1x Dark Hole 1x Pot of Greed 1x Graceful Charity 1x Scapegoat 1x Monster Reborn 1x Change of Heart 1x Fissure 1x Mask of the Accursed 1x Swords of Revealing Light Trap: 3x Solemn Wishes 3x Gravity Bind 2x Just Desserts 1x Waboku 1x Call of the Haunted Total: 40 cards Side Deck 1x Mirror Force 2x Giant Trunade 3x Mystical Space Typhoon 2x Relinquished 2x Black Illusion Ritual 2x Sonic Bird 1x Barrel Dragon 2x Dream Clown The basic idea of the deck is to get out Fire Princess and Solemn Wishes, then drop Gravity Bind to keep the Princess around. It's a pretty well-known combo in Japan; use Solemn Wishes (formerly Blessing of God) to gain life whenever you draw, then use the effect of Fire Princess (formerly Big Bang Girl) to deal direct damage to your opponent's life points. Plenty of card drawing and other damage to go around. As for the side deck, I can basically change the entire deck just by subbing out a few cards. Most of my magic/trap removal is side decked because I rarely need it with this deck. The Dream Clowns were a last minute addition, just in case I found myself in need of extra monster removal. Anyway, on to the tourney report. Match 1: First Round: I drew my entire combo in the first hand and went first. First turn, summon Fire Princess, set Solemn Wishes and Gravity Bind. During his turn, he summoned Harpie's Brother and tried to attack, only to hit the Gravity Bind, followed by me activating Solemn Wishes. Eventually I had two SWs on the field along with both Fire Princesses, dealing 2000 direct every time I drew. It didn't last long after that. Second Round: This time I only got Gravity Bind and Solemn Wishes first hand. However, I also got Sangan and Cannon Soldier, so I just shot Sangan on the second turn to search out Fire Princess. The entire time, my opponent was cursing me out because of Gravity Bind, since he didn't have any magic/trap removal. This one took a bit longer, but the end was sealed by Cannon Soldier and Scapegoat. Match 2: I missed the by and dueled. That's how I generally prefer it anyway. First Round: I drew none of the three combo cards in my first hand, but I did get Pot of Greed and Magician of Faith. It took longer to get set up this time, but it happened. Apparently this opponent didn't carry magic/trap removal, either. It's worth noting that I didn't see a single Jinzo during the entire tournament. Second Round: Drew only Gravity Bind and no monsters. Hmm. That's not a good thing. Ok, I suppose I could count Scapegoat as drawing monsters, but I generally don't. Set Gravity Bind and Scapegoat (remember, Scapegoat is quick-play), activate GB in response to the attack. Somehow, all three of my Solemn Wishes ended up at the bottom of the deck. Fortunately, a Sangan gave me a free shuffle, as well as Cannon Soldier. I shot the four Scapegoat tokens at the opponent for 2000, then next turn drew Solemn Wishes. Call of the Haunted brought back Sangan for another shot, followed by a search for Fire Princess. The burning then commenced. I won in short order. Match 3: Missed the by again. Not that it really matters. First Round: My opponent drew and used two Ground Collapse on the first turn. Eep. I still struggled on with only one monster slot, getting out all three Solemn Wishes and a Gravity Bind. Fire Princess was out for a while, but ended up getting killed by a Man-Eater Bug. We went back and forth for a while as I played monsters and he killed them off...until he drew his third Ground Collapse. I still kept playing, eventually getting him down to 1500 life, before I ended up decked out for my first loss of the day. Side deck in: 1x Giant Trunade, 2x Mystical Space Typhoon, 1x Mirror Force Side deck out: 1x Mask of the Accursed, 1x Waboku, 1x Giant Germ, 1x Fissure Second Round: I think he might've sided out those Ground Collapses. Either way, I didn't see any this game. The MSTs came in handy anyway when he tried to use his own Solemn Wishes. I ended up with all three Solemn Wishes and both Fire Princesses on the field, along with Cannon Soldier and a steady string of cannon fodder (pun definately intended). I not only burned his life points to nothing, but also reached my highest record yet: 148,000 LP. Still working on breaking 200,000. We didn't have a chance to play a third game, since he had to leave. He forefeited the third game, allowing me to go on to the finals. Final Match: This game took a bit longer than the previous ones. Mainly because the card shop owner had to run out to pick up her son, and since I'm there all the time anyway, they left me in charge of the store. Don't worry, I didn't rip 'em off, I'm not THAT much of a jerk. First Round: Got the setup early. The other guy was very fond of Premature Burial, seemingly forgetting that I was going for direct damage anyway, so he ended up helping me along. Especially after I Raigeki'd his PB'd monster and he used Magician of Faith to do it again. Ended up using Cannon Soldier to shoot four Scapegoat tokens, two flipped Magician of Faith, a Sangan, and the Soldier itself for an arseload of damage, sealing the victory. Second Round: He got Barrel Dragon out early...and I Raigeki and Monster Reborn'd it. Mwahaha. Barrel Dragon kept his field empty while Fire Princess and Solemn Wishes went to town. Eventually got Cannon Soldier out and just started shooting things at him. Princess of Tsurugi finished the deal with 2000 direct damage. Had to wait around for about an hour for the owner to return in order to get my prize. I ended up with a free pack of Labyrinth of Nightmare for watching the store (with Gemini Elf within, woo!) and a pile of 15 random rares for the tourney. Not much within the pile aside from two Dark Elves. But hey, every box of trading stuff needs crap to make it look more full. And so ends my report.
