"Quack Experimental Deck Yu-Gi-Oh Saga" by Tripping Billies

Tournament Report: March 15, 2003

Dave's Card Shop:  Phoenix, AZ 24th and Osborne

32-player tournament

Once again, I performed as judge for the earlier portions of the tournament until my turn to duel came up. With only two tournaments left in season 2 and my position as store leader at stake, I went into the tournament a bit nervous. I ultimately decided I just wanted to have fun and not worry about absolute victory.

This was my first tournament with Labyrinth of Nightmare (LON) cards. I was prepared for the worst, but I had a few LON cards myself, so I wasn’t entirely unprepared. This was also the first tournament with the new Joey and Pegasus starter deck cards. I used Penguin Solder and Graceful Charity, which I had in Japanese and was glad to have in English.

----- First Round -----

Tripping Billies Vs. Carlton

I am not sure if he had ever played at our tournament before, or at other ones, but he did seem to known what he was doing.

He had been pointed out earlier that I was his opponent in the first round. He didn’t seem pleased. Perhaps it was because I was older and more experienced. It might be because I was judging the tournament. Whatever the case, he entered into the duel proclaiming he would lose. I think he defeated himself before we even sat down.

The first match he dinged me twice, but overall I came on strong.

TB: 6000 Car: 0

The second match I only took one shot. I dinged him for small hits with my Mechanicalchasers, but ultimately finished him off in shot.

TB: 7300 Car: 0

Winner: TB

----- Second Round -----

Tripping Billies Vs. John

Another player I was unfamiliar with. He shared the same concern Carlton had. That he was going to lose before the match even began. I told him not to think that way; that I might do something stupid and he should look for it. It didn’t seem to change his opinion much.

First match was pretty one sided. I only took a bit of LP loss.

TB: 7200 J: 0

Second match he hit me with a La Jinn attack. It would prove to be the only one. I could have defended myself more, but at that time I didn’t want to give up my hand advantage.

TB: 6200 J: 0

Winner: TB

----- Third Round -----

Tripping Billies Vs. Bryan

Bryan and I have played against each other several times before. It is a bit odd how that works out, especially in a 32 person tournament. It isn’t like anyone plans it this way, it just seems to happen. At any rate, he tends to get into the top area of every tournament, so he isn’t bad.

The first match Bryan had me on the ropes. He got a few direct shots in on me with Dark Hole and using my own monsters against me. Good hand management kept me in the green until I had the moment to unleash.

TB: 2150 B: 0

Second match came down to it again. I had gone into my side deck and changed out Spiritualism for Fairy Box. It would prove to be a good choice. He had me down to 2500, when Fairy Box got to work its magic and protect me for one turn. I used this time to Limiter Removal on my Chaser and finish it off. I had kept Fairy Box for one more turn, taking me to 2000.

TB: 2000 B: 0

Hopefully he will get to face someone else in the tourney next time. Not that I don’t like playing him, but I am sure he is sick of facing me at this stage so often.

----- Semi Finals -----

Tripping Billies Vs. The Unstoppable

Me and Isaiah facing it down again. Always a pleasure to play against him. He really knows his stuff and he keeps you on your toes. This match turned into a game of hand management. I honestly think the only reason I won was because of this. I had chances to use quite a few of my cards, but I chose not too.

First Match I got smacked by the Goblins. I did a bit myself with Jinzo and my own Goblins, but the end came with Premature Burial.

TB: 4900 TU: 0

Second Match was my only loss of the tournament. I got slapped around my direct attacks. My Jinzo was taken to his side with Snatch Steal. In my hand was Magic Cylinder, Imperial Order, and Nobleman of Crossout, none of which would save me. I took a risk and used Premature Burial to bring back my Fiend Megacyber. I could have chosen Wall of Illusion, and maybe I should have, but I had my doubts I would survive the attacks. As it turned out, Mystical Space Typhoon undid my Premature Burial, so it didn’t matter what I had done.

TB: 0 TU: 5550

Final match. I got nailed again by those Goblins, but in this match Hand management kept my good cards until I could use them to overcome. My Fiend Megacyber became the attacker of the game. Painful Choice helped me to get him there. Isaiah ran out of cards at one point. I think this was his downfall.

TB: 5700 TU: 0

----- Finals -----

Tripping Billies Vs. Hector

It was either going to be me or Isaiah taking him down. Hector is a younger guy, around 11-13, and he had been doing a lot of talking the entire time. He is a good player, but he needed some humbling.

First Match was over on my second turn. The only monster he that he could use was Man-Eater Bug, whom was removed from play by Nobleman of Crossout. Limiter Removal on my machines on my next turn ended the match.

TB: 8000 H: 0

Second match was almost as bad. He managed to get Relinquished out, but my Swords of Revealing Light kept him from capitalizing on it. Raigeki took out his monsters after this, and my MechanicalChaser with Limiter Removal, Witch of the Black Forest, and Wall of Illusion ended the match.

TB: 8000 H: 0

Shout-Outs:

Reynaldo: For always having my back.

Tourney players: Always a variety of decks here. Makes the games very interesting.

Upperdeck: For sending Victor and Reynaldo their season 1 trophies before season 3. They sure are beautiful. I hope to win one myself for season 2. Also for making all cards tourney legal upon release, even if Konami hasn’t given us the restriction list.

Dave and Amanda: For keeping them munchkins in line and hosting the tournament.

Carl’s Jr: For having the Ranch Bacon Burger. Very tasty.
