I arrived at World of Books with the dueling area protected from the rain with the tarp walls. There was wind and the clouds were moving around. Maybe the rain will get blown away. I’ve been really busy, so decided to duel with Pulse again. 1st match Opponent: Bruce (??) Bruce was on a good streak. He had won his first advanced match, and now he had to face me. Bruce is a good guy and will definitely get better from all his experience playing against the advanced duelists. I forgot what deck he had, probably beatdown, but the duels didn’t last too long for me to remember. First duel, I was dueling Bruce at the table behind the Bandit Keif/Nick T match. Bruce’s friend was standing between the two tables, watching both duels. After Bruce and I finished shuffling and was about to start, Bruce’s friend reports that Bandit Keif just won the first duel in 3-4 turns. Not to be outdone, as soon as we started, I hit Bruce hard with Cannon Soldiers and GSOS. I win in 4 turns with 5800 LP left. Second duel was very similar to the first. This one went to about 8 turns, but I started by softening him up with Witch and Cannon Soldier. Later on, I was able to get Jinzo out to finish him up. I win with 7100 LP. One thing I do remember: Bruce kept a good attitude throughout the whole match. Even though he lost, he had fun and remained positive. 2nd match Opponent: the Notorious P.H.O. (Healing Beatdown) The Notorious is a member of the Saiyans. He had a healing deck with him today, which had Cure Mermaid, Hysteric Fairy, and Momongas. The Notorious is ranked 100+ in the West Coast, and he knows he needs to be in the top 100 to win a booster box. As much as I wanted him to win (he needs the points more than me), I wasn’t going to let him win. He had to earn it. First duel, started out going back and forth. We would hit each other little by little, then our LPs would go up, him by Cure Mermaid, me by Momongas. The key moment was when he was at 6250 while I had 4900. His whole field was clear and I had Monster Reborn and Call of the Haunted. I summoned GSOS and revived Cannon Soldier and Jinzo. The attack plus launch was enough to knock the Notorious out of his seat and his LP to zero. Second duel, the Notorious had his deck running smooth. The rest of the Saiyans had been eliminated from the tourney and they came to support P.H.O. However, the Saiyans were also hungry so they wanted the match to end quickly so they can all go eat. Like true teammates, they started cheering for me to win since I was already ahead 1-0 and it would be quicker if the Notorious lost. But like I said, the Notorious had his deck running full power, and his healing brought his LP up to 10100. I ran out of LP before I could bring him back down. He won with 9400 left. Third duel, I knew I couldn’t let him heal himself like last duel. I was really careful and made sure he barely healed himself. I had him at 5100 and I was at 6300. My Jinzo was on the field, ready to close the game. Then the Notorious pulls a Dark Hole, clears the field and attacks. Next turn, he tributes for his Jinzo. All I can do is defend. Next turn, he gets Monster Reborn and now I’m up against two Jinzos. I can’t do anything and admit defeat. The Notorious savors his victory and the Saiyans treat him to McDonald’s. Since I’m out of the tourney early, I play about 5 people who challenge me for fun. It was a good day, the rain went away and never came back. Oh yeah, less than one week until the UpperDeck YuGiOh mall tour makes a stop in San Francisco. March 22 and 23. The top duelists at World of Books will be there to represent. Here’s your chance, Bay Area Duelists (and duelists from Sac and far away if you are crazy enough to drive this far) to come duel with us. You’ll know you are dueling against Serf if you see a Millenium Puzzle around my neck. What’s up! to the hardcore Yu-Gi-Oh! gamers at a World of Books. Get lost! to the thieves that steal cards.
