Monster Removal/Beatdown Deck: The Deck With No Name Location: Collinsville, Illinois Store: Dizzy Dugout Date: March 9, 2003 Name: Jacob This is my second tournament thus far. After my surprisingly easy win at my first tournament, I decided to try another store to find some better duelists… and better prizes. Showed up at about noon to see what the competition would be like before we got down to the dueling. I didn’t think there would be much of a turn out at first when only nine people showed up in half an hour, but boy was I wrong. Had to have been at least 60 people there, possibly more. They store organized everyone into groups according to age, so being one of the few people 16 or older kinda sucked since only eight or nine people fit that category. The thing I didn’t realize about this tournament until it was too late was that this shop actually allows Japanese cards at official tournaments. Another thing they forgot to mention was that after the first match, the tournament was no longer set up in match format, which means that the winner of the first an only duel between the two of you wins that time. Crazy… Match One: Me vs. some guy with a weird scar on his face, think his name was Tom. Ran some sort of beatdown deck with a lot of counters (had three jap gemini elves and three jap mechanical chasers) *didn’t bring the LP scores for this one back with me Duel One: Me I got Jirai Gumo on my first draw, can be a good or a bad thing. This match I won because I only called the flip of the coin wrong once out of about seven flips. He couldn’t use his cheap japanese monsters on me and he didn’t get much else than that. Pretty much just trap holed and the such then attacked directly. Duel Two: Me This one was close, I won with something like 1200 LP. He got two Gemini Elves on his first draw along with a Raigeki. I was hurting pretty bad but I threw my goblin attack force out and didn’t attack with him until I got a fissure to kill one of his elves off. Snatch Stole his other Gemini Elf and summoned White Magical Hat with an Axe of Despair equipped. With that, he had barely any LP left and he set a monster with my ceasefire on the field, finished him off by a tiny bit. “Match” (only calling it a match for organization purposes) Two: Me vs. a very kind tie and suit guy. Ran a summoned skull and Maha Vailo based beatdown with a couple of jap cards, not so many that I had to worry about it too much though. Duel ONE: Me Me- 8000, 4950, 3950, 2200 Him- 8000, 4950, 2000, 0 He was setting quite a few monsters right in the beginning so my initial though was that he had an Exodia deck, but it turns out he’d just got two wall of illusions and a man-eater bug on his first turn. I set my MEB and a wall of illusion down before I had the guts to summon something, and that was my Goblin Attack Force. I attacked his wall and it got sent back to my hand, not so bad really. Next round he summoned an 1800 four star, can’t remember which, and attacked my MEB, I destroyed his facedown man-eater bug. I then drew confiscation and saw that he had two Maha’s in his hand so I just discarded one. He flipped his facedown raigeki (actually turned out good for him that he set a normal magic card lol) and summoned Maha Vailo with an Axe and attacked me directly, ouch. I drew an axe, monster reborned his maha, fissured, then attacked directly. Finished him off pretty much the same way. I dueled him again thinking that it was still in match format, he knew it wasn’t but he just kept going, guess he though I wanted to do it for fun. I won this one because all he got were monster cards. “Match” Three: Me vs. The only person I got to duel with no Jap cards in his deck, though he did have an american Gemini Elf and Magic Cylinder. He ran a defensive type beatdown, I think it was just because he needed more monsters to put in though. Me- 8000, 5700, 4300, 2150, 0 Him- 8000, 6600, 4400, 400 This one made me a wee bit angry, if I had attacked his wall of illusion with Jirai Gumo instead of Gearfried the Iron Knight, I would have won. Pretty much just kept overpowering eachother’s monsters until I called the Jirai flip wrong after attacking his wall with gearfried shooting me down to 2150, he then snatch stole my jirai and won. Guess that’ll teach me eh? Lol. After this match I thought I was out, but they didn’t have it set up that way (yet another thing they forgot to mention). They just had it set up as whoever wins the most duels gets first, whoever wins the second most duels gets second and so forth. “Match” Four: Me vs. Mario, had LOTS of Labyrinth of Nightmare cards.I hadn’t bought any yet because I didn’t think they’d be tournament legal so soon and this is a person not fond of spending money. Ran a pretty straight beatdown deck, lots of 1800’s and such, with a japanese jinzo and japanese mirror force to top it off. Me- 8000, 6200 Him- 8000, 7600, 2550, 1000, 0 He threw a Mechanical Chaser out on his first summon (american one at that) but I heavy stormed his three facedown cards, got mirror force, trap hole, and rush recklessly. Then dark holed and attacked with 7-colored, but he used a karibo. After that he set a magic/trap and summoned Harpie’s Brother. I summoned Jirai Gumo and killed his harpies brother, but when I attacked with 7-colored he activated his Japanese Magical Cylinder. His next turn he set a monster. I drew an Axe and equipped it on my newly summoned Maha then attacked his wall of illusion with my rush recklessly’d 7-color, then attacked directly with maha and jirai. Just when I though I had it in the bag, he drew dark hole lol. My next card was either monster reborn or white magical hat, can’t remember. But I reborned my maha on accident (thought it was Jirai when I threw it out there, but since it was a tournament “ noooooope! You can’t take it back, you already played it on that card!” which kinda helped me out, I atacked him directly with maha then when I attacked him with white magical hat, he waboku’d, since he was being so stupid about my monster reborn incident, I wouldn’t let him take it back =D. he didn’t draw a monster and he just gave up. “Match” Five: Me vs. some kid, don’t know how he got pitted against me, but he did. Upon starting the duel, I heard a guy finish his last opponent, rather fast I might say, and he was undefeated, so I let this kid have to win so he could get first in his division of the duelists. Me- 8000, 7200, forfeit Him- 8000, 6600, 5600 I got two boosters for placing third, got my money’s worth, but I still think it should have been at least three. Got a Spirit Message “A” in my labyrinth pack and a backup soldier in my pharoe’s servant pack. Pros: -Got my second and third Gearfried the Iron Knight -Got an Imperial order for a LOB Trap Hole and an Acid Trap Hole -Got to beat all those people with labyrinth and japanese cards with only American cards in Pharoe’s Servant packs down. -Felt somewhat good when I let the kid have the win and first. He got three labyrinth and three Pharoe’s Servant for getting first, but I still don’t know how he got put up against me. Cons: -The store for allowing japanese cards at an official tournament -The first kid I dueled for complaining saying I flipped the coin wrong or something of the such, I even let him flip it when he got that frustrated look in his eyes. -The store for not having an american Mirror Force for sale. -The store for only o ffering ten dollars in trade for my Thousand Dragon Needless to say, I’m never going back there again, and I know I’ll never be seeing any of those guys in a big yugioh tournament seeing as practically all of them rely on Japanese cards.
