Subject: YuGiOh Tournament Report

Death to Simochi
Tommy "Mene" Yan
Magic Dragon Games
Boise, Idaho
June 17th, 2003
Participants? Around 30
$2 Entry Fee

Hey everyone, it's me, Mene. I'm back again for my third tourney report.
Since Summer has started and all, yours truly gets to go up to Boise more
often, more often meaning every week.

This is going to be a fun summer.

Anyways, the tournament system has changed since the last time I did a
report. There are now two age groups, one for the 13 or older people, and
another for the 12 or younger people. I'm 13, so I'm in the older bracket.

There are now only four matches per tourney. For your next match after the
last, you were matched against someone with the same number of wins you had.
Pretty much, if you lost you were still allowed to play, but you probably
wouldn't get first or second. You only played one duel against your
opponent.

No Japanese cards allowed. Legacy of Darkness legal.

I decided I'd retire the Pyroclasm for a while. I finished putting together
this Bad Reaction deck two nights before the 17th. You can't get anymore
slap-togethery than that.

Death to Simochi

MONSTERS (18)
1x Cyber Jar
1x Fiber Jar (might I mention that this is 1/e LoD, w00t)
3x Giant Germ
2x Magician of Faith
2x Mask of Darkness
3x Nimble Momonga
3x Penguin Soldier
1x Sangan
1x Wall of Illusion
1x Witch of the Black Forest

MAGIC (15)
>Change of Heart
>Dark Hole
>Monster Reborn
>Pot of Greed
>Raigeki
2x Graceful Charity
1x Messenger of Peace
2x Mystical Space Typhoon
1x Painful Choice
2x Rain of Mercy
1x Snatch Steal
1x Upstart Goblin

TRAPS (7)
3x Bad Reaction to Simochi
1x Imperial Order
1x Mirror Force
2x The Eye of Truth

This deck is faster than you think. At around my fourth turn of each game, I
had ten cards or less left in my deck.

---

When we got there, there was around fifteen minutes or so before the tourney
started. I did some trades. I got Bottomless Trap Hole for a Gravity Bind,
and an Exiled Force for a Luster Dragon. Not bad, I say.

Sixteen minutes later, the first round began.

---

ROUND ONE
Mene vs. Chris? (Exodia)

This was a fun match. I got the whole Simochi system out fast. Two Rain of
Mercys and an Eye of Truth in the first couple of turns is not a bad deal. I
was forced to set a Fiber Jar, which got attacked (OUCH). Most of the time,
when defensive players meet defensive players, it's all about speed. I beat
him, but that doesn't mean he's a bad Exodia player. The Eye of Truth showed
me that he had three or more Exodia pieces in his hand at all times, before
and after the Fiber Jar.

Between rounds, I bought an LoD pack. This is my fourth Shadow Tamer now,
this crazy lady is stalking me, I swear...

---

ROUND TWO
Mene vs. Darren (random conglomeration of trash)

Easy. He practically killed himself. How you ask? I had Eye of Truth and
Simochi out second turn. I say go, and Last Will is in his hand. -1000 Life
Points. He set one card down in the magic/trap zone and said go. I Rain'ed
on my next turn, set a Giant Germ I think, and said go. I look at his hand
again, and Last Will is still there?! -1000 again... He kept the Will in his
hand for five turns, he didn't even set it face down or anything. Easy
victory.

2-0

---

I bought another pack between rounds. I pulled Creature Swap this time. Why
do the foils I pull have to be such junk, anyways?

---

ROUND THREE
Mene vs. Scott (bigger random conglomeration of trash)

Another easy victory. While he didn't kill himself like Darren did, he
couldn't do much to get through the defenses. I can't really remember much
of what happened, but I do know that I used Rain of Mercy around four times
in this duel.

3-0

---

I head off to do some more trading. These kids were offering me Gaia the
Fierce Knight and SDK Blue Eyes for my Raigeki. They later tell me that I
never trade. Crazy kids.

FINALS
Mene. vs. Tarv (Relinquished)

A tense match. Luckily, we're very good friends (we even went up Magic
Dragon together), and I know his deck like the back of my hand. That's
probably part of what won me this match. Jinzo was on the board second turn,
but Cyber Jar took care of that. He flipped his own Cyber Jar and got me
Giant Germ, two Rain of Mercys, and Upstart, and a Snatch Steal. Excellent!

4-0

---

First place was two packs of LoD. This time, I got DropOff (OK) and The
Dragon's Bead (OK also). Slightly better than the packs last time, I say.

Chris walks up to me and calls me a newbie.

Let this be a lesson to you guys: don't be afraid to try new things once in
a while.

PROPS:
Me for winning
Me for pulling Creature Swap
Me for pulling DropOff
Me for telling those little kids that were trying to rip me off to get lost
Darren for killing himself during our game

SLOPS:
Me for doing those awesome trades
Those kids that did those awesome trades with me
Me not having enough money to buy King Size Fries at the Burger King next
door
Shadow Tamer for stalking me
