I'm so bored, and at the suggestion of one of my friends, I'm making one of these. (My first) Today's tournament was the first one I've entered since March, so it's been a while. Today's was a special tag-team event... we would have to enter and play team mode. This was an unoffical tournament (of course), but there was still prize money. All ruling decisions/complications are decided by the store owner. And since tag-team is not an offical playing format, you can bet there were a lot of disputes. Anyway, on to the duels. I was teamed with my friend AtM. We were kinda in a hurry to pick out our team name, and all the candy-crazed nut could come up with was "Team Mike and Ike". Note to self: think of cooler team name next time! AtM's brother entered and teamed up with a Kuriboh. Pairings are initially randomly chosen. In future rounds, winners are paired up with winners until one undefeated team is left standing. Round 1: "Team Mike and Ike" vs. T.J. and ??? Our opponents this first round had an English beatdown deck, and a Relinquished ritual deck. In the first duel, the ritual guy absorbed a Goblin Attack Force and attacked me with t, chipping away my life points. I Snatch Stealed the Relinquished and used it to get a good hit at his LP, until his partner equiped it with Ekibyo Drakmord to kill it. From this point on, all 4 of us stalled for a while, until one of our opponents flipped a Cyber Jar. The result was good for me, as it netted me a Chaos Dragon from my deck, and sent a light monster I had on the field to the grave. I summoned CED and used it's effect to completely obliterate the ritual guy, and leave his partner at 200 life. A timely Destruction Ring finished the duel quickly after. (How I love that card.) In the second duel... I don't really remember much of this one. I remember I used their Morphing Jar #2 against them by deliberately discarding my light/dark monsters to the grave so I could special summon Chaos Soldier. I used him to hold of the beatdown player, while AtM set up his offensive. He flipped his XENO, controlled the ritual player's monster, and sacrificed them both for Barrel Dragon. Whose attack then doubled... The other guy gave up after that. Round 2: "Team Mike and Ike" vs. "Team Dynasty" I hate these guys. I'll explain later. One had a water deck... the other had beatdown/water combination. (I think.) First duel, they go first, and set a card face down. When it's my turn, I play Graceful Charity, to which he responds with Imperial Order. I then chain Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy his IO. Naturally, he doesn't think you can do that. We end up arguing about it for 5-10 minutes. I don't remember what I got with GC... all I remember from this duel is how annoying Dumb and Dumber were. They didn't have calculators, they didn't have good (or ANY) memory skills, and they refused to use scratch paper to keep their life. In other words, they have as many lifepoints as they feel like having. At one point in the duel, a guy who had been attacked by a redlined Mech. Chaser (3700) responded that he had "5000 lifepoints". They absolutely refused to acknowledge damage to their life totals... eventually I amassed a TWO Chaos Soldiers, Breaker, Blade Knight, and Exclusivity Virus on the field. Only then did they admit defeat. I guess they're so special, you have to take all 8000 of their life in a single turn in order to beat them. Game two... We were kinda in a hurry, so this only compounded their natural lamer desire to stall. "Team Swords of Revealing Light" took ages making every play, and argued with us at every opportunity whenever we played any of our cards. Near the beginning of the game, we depleted their hands, via direct hand-d like Don Zaruug and Forceful Sentry, and also by making them use more of their cards to battle ours. Early in the game, we established a temporary lock using Imperial Order and both our Yatagarasu cards. We couldn't maintain it permanantly, since IO was helping the lock-down... so we just kept up the assault until we each had a 2-7 hand advantage over them. Also, before we IO'd for a few turns, my friend hit one guy with Cannon Soldier + Scapegoats for 3400 damage. Anyway, when we were ready, my friend stopped paying for his Imperial, and we went on the offensive. I summoned Chaos Soldier and normal summoned Yata, clearing the next turn player's field and preventing his draw. (He was the one already hurt 3400 from Cannon Soldier) With him unable to play any cards, my friend hit him with a Drillago + 2x Limiter Removals next turn, wiping out his remaining life points. Aha, but of course, he disputes his loss... after all he does have infinite life points. When we (slowly) explain to them how to compute basic math (3400 + 6400 = 9800), they dispute Limiter Removal's effect. Never mind that they were the ENGLISH cards. Failing that, they argue about Drillago's effect. Which, of course, has no relevance to this situation, since my partner wasn't attacking directly by Drillago's effect, but because the guy had no monsters in the field. Then they pull rulings out of their ass, claiming that Drillago is actually a fiend... never mind that 'kikai' means 'machine'. ("But he _looks_ like a fiend!") Then they try that Limiter Removal is an equipment card, never mind that it is actually a quickplay magic, and that a monster can't be equipped with more than 1 equip card. FINALLY, the guy accepts the entire Drillago/Limiter/6400 attack sequence... but then for no reason, searches his deck for a SORL card and puts it into play, saying it saved him from the attack. That _quickly_ gets shot down, and he accepts his defeat. THEN, he says that his Swords is still on the field, and protects his partner! At this point, one of the store guys comes out and calls time. He told us to either accept a draw, or flip for the win. We chose draw... until the store owner comes out and gives us the win, as suggested by only every single person watching our match. Round 3: "Team Mike and Ike" vs. "Waterboy and Kuriboh" The Water-boy is AtM's brother, using his Legendary water deck. His Kuriboh partner uses a hand discard deck. They are probably one of the best teams at the store, like us... one of them who had a good chance of winning this thing, just as much as us. In the first duel, Kuriboh opens with Confiscation on me. He gets rid of my Pot of Greed, which left me with DWG, Perseus, Change of Heart, and Zaruug. AtM gets some quick damage on him using Cannon Soldier. I summon Perseus, and get some nice extra cards with him, until he's finally Dark Hole'd by the Waterboy. Perseus comes back to haunt them, though, as his ghostly spirit departs this astral plane to make way for my Chaos Soldier. Between our attacks, AtM's direct damage launches, and his own Hand-D payment, we take out Kuriboh and win. (We all agreed at the beginning of the match that if one player loses, the other must forfeit and their team loses.) The second game starts badly, as I draw nothing but monster cards. I get D-Duo'd and Confiscated, and all AtM's attempts to protect me or launch his counter-offensive were foiled by _both_ our opponents using Imperial Order. We're able to make a slight comeback, after IO is gone, but our hands were running short, and I was low on life points. I managed to prolong the end for a few turns by stalling with Killer Snake and Waboku, but eventually I got down to 400 life and nothing to fall back on. (I lasted longer than I should have... Kuriboh had a Monster Reborn and chose a 1900 to call back, which I Waboku'd. Had he revived AtM's Cannon Soldier, my remaining 400 LP would be gone that turn instead of 2 turns later.) The third game was rather interesting. We got a couple of good early hits in on Kuriboh with Exclusivity Virus and his own Beserk Gorilla. Then his partner pulls out a Gravity Bind to save them. We stall for a few turns... They play Witch, but I disrupt their plan by sending it to another dimension... with my Dimensional Warrior Girl, of course. Eventually I draw Harpy's Feather Duster and kill GB. I'm prepared to finish it with Chaos Soldier next turn. But I don't get it, because before my turn could come up again, my partner finished off Kuriboh's 6000-some LP with a Drillago and double Limiters - the second time today he's gotten Drillago to +6000 ATK. We finish Round 3, but are unable to finish the tournament because we had to leave. Kuriboh had to leave as well. So I don't know who won... I think there should be 1, at most 2 other undefeated teams. It was the opinion of most people that we had a very good chance of winning, and also Kuriboh's team. (Before our match started, he said 'whoever wins this will probably win the tournament.') Prizes: 1st $15 2nd $10 3rd $5 But we didn't get to see any of it... having to leave early sucks. Shibby!: - AtM getting a Raigeki - Kuriboh for letting AtM borrow Scapegoat, and me borrow Chaos Soldier. (FYI, next time I see you, I'll just trade my D-Ring + Sphinx for it... I'll live without one for now.) - The absolutely ultimate broken-ness of CED... in tag-team play (Quad DMG = Fun!) - The absolutely ultimate broken-ness of multiple Limiter Removals (Thanks, Konami.) - Ian (store owner) for letting us win Round 2 (Hah!) D'oh!: - Team Dynasty, aka Team Swords of Revealing Light, aka Team Dumb and Dumber-er-er-er - People who think Tornado Wall prevents all damage, including LP payment costs - People who think MST can't destroy IO in a chain - People who don't keep LP, and instead fudge their numbers so they don't lose - Lack of organized rules! - Time, Time, Time! If only... - Not winning: sucks. - Team "Mike and Ike"? Kweh? Better team ID next time! - Dude, where's my calculator? If AtM's brother didn't waste time by losing his calculator...
