Match One: versus Joseph (Marik IshtarX)

Outcome: 2-1

This is like my third time playing him in the first round. I know he has some strong hitters, along with his newly acquired Injection Fairy Lily. I was able to get the Yata lock out and took the first duel. In the second duel however I fell victim to his barrage of hitters, but I was not discouraged. In the final duel I had sufficient forces to end it within a few turns, but I didn’t wanna blow the whole match by playing my hand. I knew his Kuribohs could thwart my assault. So I made it a two staged assault, once the first wave succeeded I knew it was over. None of his valiant Kuribohs came to save the day this match. Good Game.

Match Two: versus Froilan

Outcome: 2-1

I’ve never had the pleasure of playing Froilan in the tournament. I’ve seem him with some Gemini Elves, so I’ll assume he has a beatdown. Not like it matters like Red XIII says, “Different strategy vs. different people will work a lot better. Adjusting and developing to how your opponent plays allows the weaker characteristics to fade away.” In the first duel I get the Yata lock out and put the game away. I usually don’t like, it’s not my specialty, however the occasion presented itself. I might have gotten too eager to finish the duel by looking for another Yata lock; I toasted a Mechanical Chaser though! My warriors had trouble finding the strength to apprise Freidan’s Attackers. So my troops had to fall back, and as the stalemate prolonged I could see the disbelief in Freidan’s eyes. We were both frantically hoping to draw a card that would end the duel. One by one the cards were drawn, the tension was building… Finally, I draw a Goblin Attack Force, I equip him with United We Stand, just incase my attack fails and he try’s to kill my Goblin with a Fiber Jar or something. I attack….MAGIC CYLINDER, ouch…I take 3100 damage, and we even the match up 1-1. I wasn’t gonna allow that Magic Cylinder upset to take precedence again as I iced the game. Good Game.

Match Three: versus Brandon (Cait Sith)

Outcome: 2-1

Hmmm, what to say, four out of five Avalanche members made it to the semi finals. So we secured this tournament, a member of Avalanche has to win…but who will it be… Red XIII was reluctant in disposing of Kevin, but to the victor goes the spoils. So the winner of this match plays Red XII, to some the feared leader of Avalanche, to others the wielder of the dreaded Yata lock. Both Cait Sith and I agreed that neither of us were to use our side decks, this match would be played out with our decks in their pure form.

Make no mistake, this was no ordinary duel. We were both aware what tactic the other was planning to utilize, the mysterious Mind Blast! As the duel commenced it was as if we were both playing with the cards in our hand exposed. We were literally psyching each other out; every card played had its purpose, a means to an ended that we were both aware of. I was calling out his face down cards as he began to reveal them. The audience was amazed, but that did not amaze me or Brandon. The first duel went to me, with my superior Warrior militia, however I could sense the potential of his deck was untapped. In the Second duel, we had to conserve our strength after that arduous first duel, so not as much Mind Blasting took place. My Warriors became staggered by the unrelenting Mystic Tomatoes that would not go back to the produce department. My Forces battled to no avail against those evil tomatoes. I expected nothing less than a third duel against Brandon, I knew I was not about to sweep the Season Three number two player. Brandon with the momentum of the last duel behind him attacked me with, poise, precision and audacity (A dollar to the first person next Sunday to tell me what movie that quote came from). The fierce battle raged on, he had anticipated the strike my Marauding Captain and Goblin Attack Force were mounting. He had a cunning counter attack, he special summoned The Field Megacyber and a White Magical Hat. Then a crack in the ground started to form…the crack quickly formed into a fissure and engulfed my Marauding Captain, leaving the GAF to fend for itself. The Megacyber crushed the GAF. One of the turning points in the duel was were I forced him to discard my Bazoo, I knew I could get him to discard it with his White Magical Hat, lets just call it the Mind Force. As the battle drew to an end I made a mistake, however it only delayed the inevitable. Good Game. My victory was sold short as I knew the next impending challenger, Red XIII.

Match Four: versus Donald (Red XIII)

Outcome: 1-2

Indeed this was a Family duel, I knew I would need to harness some luck to win this one. However we have the same blood running through our veins, so any luck that I could fathom he could match. Brandon came to support me as I would have if he defeated me in the previous match; even with our combined force we knew Donald was a force to recon with. Few have evaded the wake of his Yata-Garasu, and those who have faced it know it is merciless. My only edge is an Anti-Yata Technique that I will not mention. In the first duel his signature move, the Yata lock, leaves me speechless. I knew I could win the second duel as I quickly roast his bird, then it’s my turn to repay the favor and Yata lock the Yata lock master. Final duel, I look at my hand, I knew it was gonna be hard to win. I needed to know my chances, so I played Delinquent Duo and Confiscation to slow him down. But I knew unless he made an error, that I could not beat him. He finished me and won the tournament this week. At least I cooked the bird twice. Good Game.
