Tournament Report Saturday, July 5, 2003 Triple Play, Streetsvile, Ontario Big Prize Tourney. Cost: $10 Name of Deck: Warriors Strike Down! Number of Participants: 40+ This tournament was BIG! The grand prize was a box of LOB! Up to 9th place got prizes so I convinced my mom to let me go and off I went. I waited to get paired up and checked out the competition. After 15 minutes had passed, I looked at what cards were for sale. And lo and behold, The Legendary Fisherman for 30 bucks! I knew it was a bit pricey but nobody else had any fisherman so I bought it. I was soon called to start my duel. Duel 1 George (meeee) VS Jarfen (?): ok we started off and I beat him quickly with my classic Hayabusa Knight + Axe. Took him down in three turns flat. He mirror forced I think but I recovered with my call of the haunted. 8000-0 Second duel, he hit me for 1100 by his equipped monster (forget what died and which equip). I beat him down with GAF’s and Gemini Elf and finished the duel 6900-0 Ok so I was the first one done dueling. I felt sorry for him but that was all right. I tried to trade for a Gemini elf (another one to make it 3 in my deck) but the guy wanted me to add something to my 1/e magic cylinder for it. I had doubles of cylinder but I wasn’t going to go that far for a card I had two of already. Then a kid who promised to trade me his GAF and fisherman forget them at home. I tried trading for a fairy lily in the time but to no avail. L Then one of my friends decides he doesn’t want a lily nemore. He trades me his 1/e lily to me for 45 bucks and my premature burial (note: I had two burials) and he added in yamata dragon 1/e. I didn’t want to cheat and add lily to my deck (although it coulda saved me later on) so I left it in my binder. My friend got lucky again. Ryan had like 4 byes’s by the end of the tournament and automatically got 5th or 6th place. Grrs to him! Duel 2 George VS Devon: uh-oh! If u read my last report, then u know Devon wiped my ass with his deck last time I faced him. I knew I was going to lose this duel so I went up bravely. On the first duel he attacked with 2 GAF’s and a rock spirit directly plummeting me down to 1700 life points. I used Raigeki, COTH my GAF, summon my other GAF and attack to reduce him to 3400. He then summons a rock spirit and kills one of my GAFs. Since I can’t switch gaf back yet, I special summon my rock spirit, and normal summon an exiled force. Destroy my exiled force to destroy his rock spirit. Then attack his LP and bring him down to 1700. He tries to raigeki me and I use solemn judgment. He ends his turn by laying one card f/d. I use dark hole, reborn a gaf, and attacked for the win. I won with only 850 LP left! 8000-1700-850 8000-3400-1700-0 I knew this match was going to be tough as nails. He starts off with graceful charity, discarding Jinzo and marauding captain. He summons Gemini elf and ends. I draw pot of greed. Use it. Get freed and graceful. Use graceful. Dump freed and dark hole. Special summon rock spirit. Summon marauding captain. Summon Hayabusa knight via marauding’s effect. Equip Hayabusa with 2 axes and a mage power. Attack for overkill!!! I won the duel in overkill in my first turn!! He is one of the best people in the store and I just defeated me. I had butterflies in my stomach. The judge couldn’t believe me when I told him I beat Devon. Here was a newbie to the store beating one of the favorites to win the box of LOB. My friend Ryan got another bye for that round and he automatically advanced to the 3rd round. Duel 3 George VS James: this was one of the toughest duels in my life. He ran a trap deck. No magic’s, and barely any good monsters. His strongest monster in the deck was witch of the black forest. Whenever I tried getting Jinzo out, he solemn judgmented the summoning, magic jammer’ed my monster reborn/ and premature. 7 tooled my call of the haunted and trap hole’s all my monsters. And he kept on getting back his major traps with mask of darkness. I just had no way to beat this guy. Also since I had to leave soon (my brother was bored and wanted to leave now since he had the car) I lost my concentration and did some foolish moves. Also there was a crowd watching us. I usually freeze up when there’s a big crowd watching my duels. I slipped up and some kids were even coaching James on some moves! When I tried MST’ ing his mirror force and almost won that duel, he said since he revived the mirror force from mask of darkness, he got to shuffle his cards that were face down on the field in the magic & trap zone. I thot that was unfair and he pulled quite a few stunts like that. No duh I lost both duels. -_- I left after that and when I went to get my prize (7th place outta 40 or more ppl aint so bad and with only 2 other tourneys at my hand too). They said they only gave out prizes to 1st-6th place now. I should have gotten 3 LOD packs and instead received diddly squat. Note to self: only go to Sunday tournaments at triple play now. My friend Ryan the lucky bastard, only had to duel once and he got 5th place or 6th place. He got a prize for being lucky. My other friend Derek was knocked out on the second round. And his brother was knocked out the first round. Ryan’s older brother, matt, was gone in the first round. And my friend Logan, with a bit of luck and some easy opponents made it to the finals. He was sooooooo happy when I lost and had to go because I knocked out his brother Devon in only the second round. Ah well. Next time people will have to take me more seriously eh? Warrior Strike Down Deck: Monsters Level 5-6 (2): Jinzo Freed the Matchless General Monsters Level 3-4 (15): Bazoo the Soul Eater Hayabusa Knight x 2 Goblin Attack force x 2 Marauding Captain x 2 Witch of the Black Forest Exiled Force x 2 The Rock Spirit x 2 Gemini Elf x 2 Cyber Jar Magic Cards (17): Mage Power Mystical Space Typhoon Dark hole Change of Heart Raigeki United We Stand Pot of Greed Graceful Charity x 2 Monster Reborn Premature Burial Sword of Revealing Light Reinforcements of the Army Snatch Steal Axe of Despair x 2 Harpies Feather Duster Trap Cards (6): Torrential Tribute Magic Cylinder Call of the Haunted Mirror Force Imperial Order Solemn Judgment Total Cards: 40 After the tournament, I put Injection Fairy Lilly in my deck, and am thinking of taking out Freed the Matchless General or Bazoo the Soul Eater. I took out Bazoo cause he didn’t make a single appearance at the tourney while Freed showed his head twice. Props: For getting 7th outta 40 people with only two tournaments experience. For getting a Legendary Fisherman. For getting a Lilly. For BEATING DEVON! Slops: To losing 10 bucks. To losing to James. Don’t worry I’m going after him Hehehe That my friend who I can beat any second of the day (sorry Ryan but u noe it’s the truth) made it higher up than I did L For my mom for being angry at me after cuz I was there for 2 and a half hours instead of the 1 hour I told her I’d be done in.
