It’s been a while since I’ve done a tourney report. The only other time I made one was back in April. I’ve improved my deck quite a lot since then. I’ve gone to only a few of tournaments since then though, mostly because I’ve had to work on the days tournaments take place. Anywhoo, here’s my new deck!

The tournament at Downtown Comics is the only official Upperdeck tournament in Newfoundland, so that’s good. It also means that we play by Upperdeck’s rules and have an elimination tournament. A few months ago, this was a tournament where you would accumulate points in order to make it into the finals. This tournament only has 1 bracket, so once you lose, you’re out.

The day started off pretty well. I showed up early to try and get some trades in. And I managed to get a couple of good trades before the tournament started. I traded my Freed the Matchless General and Luster Dragon for a Harpie’s Feather Duster and 2 Creature Swaps for a Magic Cylinder! I wasn’t expecting to find anyone that wanted to trade any of those cards. Lucky me! I was able to find anyone with a Dark ruler Ha Des, which I was desperate to get before the tournament. Luckily, Downtown comics had recently begun to sell and trade cards, and they had a Dark Ruler Ha Des for $20! I didn’t have $20 on me, but I was able to trade 2 Revival Slimes and a Twin-Headed Behemoth for it! JOY!! Now I only need a few more cards to complete my deck.

And now, the duels of the day….

***Duel 1***
Nickowolf vs. Adam (Random Deck)

This was a good first duel to break in my new deck and my three newly acquired cards. I started by playing a Gemini Elf, but he equipped with a Mask of the Accursed, so I wasn’t able to attack with it. He put a few monsters in defence to start off. He had a lot of flip effect cards, but nothing that damaged me too much. It seemed like his strategy was to stall in order to let Mask of the Accursed’s  effect eat at my Life Points. Fortunately, it didn’t turn out that way. I was able to tribute Gemini Elf for Summoned Skull. After that, I was able to get 4 monsters out on the field and annihilate his Life Points swiftly.
Nickowolf- 8000, 7500, 7000, 6500, 6000, 4100
Opponent- 8000, 3800, 0

This was a pretty quick round. I was able to get some strong monsters out pretty easily. I took some direct damage from some of his flip effect monsters but nothing to bad. When things were getting a bit desperate for Adam, he used his Megamorph on my Summoned Skull, since he had more Life Points than me at the time. This brought my Summoned Skull’s base attack down to 1250, but since he was powered up by Winged Minion’s effect, he had an attack rating of 1950. I managed to get my Necrofear out on the field and continued to damage his Life Points. Eventually, I came out the victor.
Nickowolf- 8000, 5600, 3800
Opponent- 8000, 6800, 6750, 5350, 3150, 600, 0

***Duel 2***
Nickowolf vs. Keith (Overall Beatdown)

When I heard I was taking on Keith, I began to worry that I’d be out of the tournament pretty quick. He’s an older player who’s supposed to be quite good.

This duel wasn’t as hard as I thought it was going to be. My new deck was proving to be quite formidable. There was a lot of stalling in this round. He was attacking me with a Gemini Elf and a Goblin Attack Force, but luckily I was able to use a Waboku. It wasn’t too long until he brought out a Jinzo. I began to get worried. I only had a face-down monster on the field against his lone Jinzo. Lucky for me he didn’t know it was my Man-Eater Bug, and his Jinzo went bye-bye! I was able to get a Summoned Skull and Dark Necrofear out along with an Opticlops. Then I used Monster Reborn to bring back his Jinzo. This duel was over in no time.
Nickowolf- 8000, 7200
Opponent- 8000, 1800, 0

This was an interesting round. It was the first duel I had with a Fiber Jar. I was winning for most of the duel. Keith was able to get a couple of strong attacks in though. He flipped Fiber Jar twice, so everthing was reset twice, but it didn’t effect me too much. I was still able to eat away at his Life Points. I was able to use Harpie’s Feather Duster twice in this duel thanks to Magician of Faith. He wasn’t too pleased with that. When his Life Points here around 1700, he actually begged me to spare him for one turn in exchange for him sparing me for one turn. I was reluctant to do so, I was actually quite surprised that someone like him would actually ask me to do something like this. He was able to get out some good monsters quickly, but I still beat him down to the ground. He was a very sore loser and was annoyed that I won. I don’t like people like that.
Nickowolf- 8000, 5700, 3900
Opponent- 8000, 7300, 4200, 1700, 1000, 0

***Duel 3***
Nickowolf vs. Matthew (Defence Destruction Beatdown)

Before the match began, Matthew and his friend both congratulated me on beating Keith. They were annoyed with how arrogant that guy usually is. I already liked them. ^_^

The duel started off pretty good. We were both drawing some of our basic beatdown cards. My monsters were slowly beating his, but then he was able to get a lot of monsters out at once. Luckily, I was able to hold his horde of monsters at bay with Swords of Revealing Light, for six turns! I like Magician of Faith! Eventually, he was able to start attacking. That’s when he took some huge bites out my Life Points and win the match.
Nickowolf- 8000, 3900, 900, 0
Opponent- 8000, 7200, 6800, 6000, 5000.

This second round was actually quite fun. He attacked my La Jinn with a Gemini Elf, but I used Mask of Weakness to let it destroy itself. I started drawing some weak monsters, so I placed them in defence mode. That’s when he brought out Spear Dragon and an Airknight Parshath through Premature Burial. I was able to take them out fairly quick, but he used Monster Reborn to bring out Parshath again along with a friend: Injection Fairy Lily! This is the part where I went “Oh beans!” and knew I was finished. None the less, it was a great duel.
Nickowolf- 8000, 4600, 0
Opponent- 8000, 7600, 6800, 4800, 2800

This was one of the better tournaments I had attended. I made it to the 3rd round again. That’s always good. Plus I was able to try out my upgraded Restless Dreams deck, which was better. I hope I can attend the tournament again next week, but more than likely I’ll have to work. Oh well, on to the Props & Slops!
