Note: This tournament report consists of an official UpperDeck Yu-Gi-Oh tournament. Therefore, no Japanese cards were allowed. A total of 22 people attended the tournament; it was held Sunday, August 2, 2003.

This tournament was held in a three round modified Swiss format, meaning each participant duels three different opponents and advances to the final four depending on their record. The prize for the tournament was $44.00 store credit.

This is also my first tournament report so don't expect many details as I have forgotten most of them.

1st Tournament

1st Match: Speedown VS. Beatdown Deck

My opponent was a young adult. He came to the tournaments every once in a while and had pretty good cards.

Duel 1 - With less than 3000 life points left, he won this duel. I didn't draw the right cards at the right time.

Duel 2 - This duel seemed to last forever. I began the duel disrupting his hand with Delinquent Duo, The Forceful Sentry, and Confiscation but on his turn drew Cyber Jar and gained quite a field advantage. I waited 'till he removed about nine cards from his graveyard from his Bazoo's effect and then played Fiber Jar face-down to restart the duel. After Fiber Jar's effect was activated, I won in the end with about 4000-5000 life points remaining.

Duel 3 - This duel went on almost as long as the previous one. He set a monster face-down and I, once again, played Delinquent Duo, The Forceful Sentry, and Confiscation to disrupt his hand. I then set a monster a face-down and one m/t card face-down. On his turn, he flipped up his face-down monster, Cyber Jar :/. Eventually time ran out and since I had 3800 lp and he had 2100, I was declared the winner.

My Record: 2-1

2nd Match: Speedown VS. Beatdown

My opponent was a newbie ( I'd say about 9-11 years old) with OK cards.

Duel 1 - I won this duel in about 3-4 turns. He played Swords of Revealing Light so I strengthened my defenses. After Swords' effect had worn off, I played Raigeki and attacked him with the four monsters I had on the field: Marauding Captain, Don Zaloog, Goblin Attack Force, and Injection Fairy Lily equipped with United We Stand. Can you say game!

Duel 2 - This duel went about the same, just at a quicker pace since he didn't play Swords.

My Record: 4-1

3rd Match: Speedown VS. Beatdown

My opponent was a six-year old kid who'd come to the tourneys before. He had good cards and the skill to match.

Duel 1 - I won this duel pretty quick. I gained field and hand advantage around turn 3.

Duel 2 - He put up more of a fight this time. At one point he had his 3 Mech. Chasers out, one with United We Stand, one with Mage Power, and one with Axe of Despair. He got pretty ticked when I activated Mirror Force and won next turn via Yata Lock.

My record: 6-1

4th Match (Finals):  Speedown VS. Beatdown

My opponent was the same kid I played last match. His record was apparently 4-3 and made it to the finals from playing me, and I had a good record.

Duel 1 - I won this duel turn 2 with the help of Pot of Greed and Graceful Charity. First I played Harpie's Feather Duster, Snatch Stole his only monster on the field, Maha Vailo, Call of the Haunted Jinzo, and summoned Marauding Captain and Bazoo the Soul-Eater.

Duel 2 - Painful Choice helped me out this duel. I was able to revive Injection with my face-down Call of the Haunted when he chose Sinister Serpent and sent it to the graveyard. I believe he had one monster in face-down defense mode. I brought back Lily, Change-of-Hearted his monster and summoned Yata. I eventually got him in another Yata Lock.

Props:

* Winning the tournament for the first time in about a month.

* Trading my extra Anti-Raigeki for Sasuke Samurai (No, I'm not stupid, I'm in the process of building a warrior deck.)

Slops:

* Getting crap in the tourney pack.
