The Power of Dragons
Sammy Ishihara
C&S Baseball Cards
Houston, Texas
August 9, 2003
9 entrants (usually larger than this)

As long as I have been in to duel monsters, this is only my second tournament.
I scored 5th out of 18 in the last one, lets hope I can reach the top at
this one! Now here is my pride and joy known as my deck…..

Total Cards=42

Monsters
Lord of dragons X2 (staple in dragon decks)
BEWD (what more can say? It’s strong)
Tyrant dragonX2 (my favorite dragon with a nice effect)
Tri-horned dragon (not as strong as blue eyes, but still cool)
Luster dragon (the summoned skull of dragons)
Spear dragon ( I hope to get 2 soon)
Twin-headed behemoth (good for sacrifices and protection)
Gray wing (can be deadly when its attack is boosted high)
Troop dragonX3 (same as twin-headed behemoth, but better)
Jinzo (no traps!)
WoTBF (searched for monsters I need)
Magician of faith (brings back my magic cards)
Cyber jar (one of my personal favs)
Sinister serpent (helps out with my gray wing/ magic and traps)
Man-eater bug (I don’t have exiled force, so….)
Penguin soldier (it helps clear the field)
Opticlops ( the oddball, but will go once I get another spear dragon)

Magic
FoSDX2 (gets out the creams of the crop)
Scapegoat (helps out and is good with other things in my deck….)
Raigeki (one word, awesome)
Dark hole (not quite raigeki but still good)
Heavy storm (I’m an idiot for trading harpies feather duster)
Monster reborn ( if you don’t have this in your deck, I pity you)
Graceful charity (draws cards)
SoRL ( an excellent staler)
Mystical space typhoon (prevents those nasty traps)
Shallow grave (brings back my cyber jar for more destruction!)
United we stand (THE equip card)
TttD (in case I don’t want to waste dark hole or raigeki)
Change of heart (we all know why)

Traps
Magic cylinder (direct damage….isn’t it sweet?)
Magic jammer (for some reason I don’t like imperial order)
Waboku (In case of the emergency)
Burst breath (upgraded trap hole for dragons)
Trap hole (one I get RoD this goes)
Riryoku field (I use this on change of heart, monster reborn, etc)
Dragons rage (the ultimate booster for dragons)

Ok, now that you know my deck, its time to show you guys how I did.
Oh and by the way, the prizes were 1 booster pack of choice for 2nd place
and 2 for 1st. Not much of a prize, but it was smaller than the usual tournaments here.

1st match: Sammy Ishihara (me) vs. Maranda (I don’t remember last names)
I was kind of amazed that I was facing a girl duelist but rule #1 in my book is
never underestimate your opponents. However, something told me that I would not
struggle at all in this duel. Not that I’m dissing females out there but she was
younger than me and was asking a lot of questions about the cards before the tournament started. I’m sure there are plenty of girl duelists out there who are good.

-1st duel: I put twin-headed behemoth face down and set waboku face down. After that
she summoned la jinn and attacked, so I used waboku and she ended her turn by setting
two magic/ traps face down. I sacrificed twin-headed behemoth for Jinzo and attacked.
She seemed surprised after I told her his effect. The rest of the duel, Jinzo and twin
headed behemoth took down her life points.
-winner=me
-2nd duel: I promise everyone I shuffled as I got Jinzo out again due to troop dragon
and brought her life points down with ease.
-winner=me
-after the match Maranda just ran away after I said “good match” and offered a hand
shake. I felt bad for making her cry after words but I couldn’t let that stop me from
possibly getting 1st place.

2nd match: Sammy Ishihara vs. Steven Torr (a very good friend of mine)
Now Steve and I know each others decks very well. He has a warrior deck with
buster blader, and other strong cards. I knew I would struggle in this match.

-1st duel: he got out his goblin attack force and once it attacked my defense monster
I had spear dragon ready for him. I got out my tyrant dragon and blue eyes with flute/lord
of dragons, but Steve had other plans as he countered next turn with raigeki and brought my
life points down with freed. He had 5 traps face down, so once his freed took out
my troop dragon I sacrificed the one that came back for Jinzo with united we stand.
Since his m/t zone was full, he couldn‘t do a thing.
-winner=me
-2nd duel: my 1st hand has lord of dragons with flute and 2 tyrants. So after he went I
played lord of d. and flute, but Steve played imperial order. I didn’t draw anything good
after that, so he took me down with his buster blader at the end.
-winner=him
-3rd duel: I got out my powerful dragons early again with success this time so I had
him for most of the match. Steve exiled forced my lord of dragons and took out my tyrant
dragon with buster blader after he reborned it from being sacrificed with magic jammer
for my raigeki. However I monster reborned his exiled force and destroyed his buster blader
and took out his life points with blue eyes.
-winner=me
-Once Steve was taken care of, I found out the next match was me against the former champion
of the last tournament. I got kind of nervous and my friends wished me luck.

3rd match Sammy Ishihara vs. Juan (former champion)
I was happy that I was finally facing Juan, the former champion. I didn’t really care if I
won or lost since 3rd was good enough for me but lets see what happened…

-1st duel: I didn’t draw anything good, but I had WoTBF. So I was hoping to get cyber jar
ready for more cards. I also set trap hole and magic cylinder face down. Juan then used
nobleman of cross out on my WoTBF, so it was no cyber jar for me and used harpies feather
duster. The rest of the duel I was a sitting duck.
-winner=him
-2nd duel: My troop dragons saved me from life point damage and I later got my luster dragon out. Juan attacked with dark ruler ha des and beefed him up with mage power after using his own Tribute to the doomed and attacking directly (he had 3 m/t including mage power making his dark ruler at 3950). I managed to use dark hole with heavy storm and attack with lord of dragons with flute and my tyrant and tri-horned. His life points were low but mine were lower. I fluted my blue eyes and other tyrant dragon and used UWS on lord of dragons bringing him at 5200. I felt careless after he used magic cylinder on my lord of dragons, making me loose.    -winner=him

At least I got 3rd place, even though it was a small tournament. And I was surprised that Juan lost in a close match in the finals but judging by his hand that I saw, he was holding back.

Props

-me getting 3rd

-me beating Steve

-me finally facing Juan

Slops

-loosing very badly to Juan

-only 9 people entered

-didn't make good trades this time around
