What is up, Pojo faithful? A long time indeed for Ghetto Kaiba to write in with another scintillating tourney report from Raleigh, NC. Let me clear my throat and send out much love to everyone that has kept up with me via my site, Yu-Ghett-Oh! and my duelist all around the Triangle!!

Well, my last deck, Bruticus, has been retired. Three wins and many moons ago, this was the deck of decks. But, with the release of 2 sets since last we spoke, it had become a bit outdated. I have been in the dungeons trying to build the unbuildable deck, of course Beatdown Exodia, with some moderate success, but really a coin’s flip to whether or not I really could rely on Exodia to bail me out. So that has been scrapped as really I got my head handed to me by noobs a few times too many. I’m back to get my props as some of these new schoolers forgot to respect their elders. So my new deck is a Fiend Deck, lovingly called Demonseed. My goal is to stop annoying effect monsters and challenge duelist to beat me head on. With that said, my worst enemy is pure Beatdown. As you can see, none of my monsters are over 1800, and with GAF, Spear and Gemini out there, I can get beat straight up. But most duelist are affixed to the standard aggravating cards like Fiber Jar, Man Eater ! and Cyber Jar, so this deck defuses those monsters and goes in for the kill. I want all my cards to be Fiend or devilish, so expect a few cards to change just to keep the theme going as I acquire them.

Match 1

Ghetto Kaiba Vs Johnathan (Machine Deck)

A new kid that had a LOT of faith in his deck before we even began. I believe his first words to me were "Let’s see what you’ve got." A smirk followed as well as a good starting hand. I really had nothing to play monsterwise outside of a Jeroid, but that was good enough. He played both Gracefuls and Pot of Greed, going through a good part of his deck. He played I think Oni Tank –10 or some 1600 machine and attacked me. A machine deck? I hadn’t seen one here yet. So I’m a bit wary, thought the only good machines I could think of were tributes. After clearing the way with a GAF to follow that, I got LaJinn to hit the GAF while it was cowering and we both lost 1800 as he hit me with a Harpie’s Bro. So I take another hit, man none of the cards in my hand are working now as he hasn’t set anything but Mage Power since we played. I finally get another attacking monster in Kycoo, play the Call of the Haunted I was hoarding on LaJinn and Reborn his Kycoo. The ensuing rush ends! it after 2 rounds. Winner Kaiba, 4100-0

Round 2

So now he’s going on about his 7 Completed combo and this was a true test this round. Whatever you say kid. My turn I play Spirit Reaper in Atk. mode and take a hit. Where are my monsters again? All I can get after a few turns are a Giant Germ and a Dark Jeriod. Jeroid is summoned and I weaken his Harpie’s Bro. and end up clearing the field with it. Finally turn my Reaper in Atk. and empty his hand of 7 Completeds (grin). Well that’s my first round. Now if I lose, no consolation round for me.

Match 2

Ghetto Kaiba Vs Robert (Fiend Deck)

Who has to be the luckiest kid on earth. His grandma orders Morphing Jars and TP1 Mechanicalchasers for him all day long on Ebay. So needless to say, perhaps behind me, this kid has the best cards to be seen. When you say you have 4 Mechanicalchasers on the way, you got to hang your head a little. And on top of that, he actually can duel. As my fellow Ghetto-mate James found out the hard way in Round one, this won’t be easy. So now I actually have to worry about facing a Morphing Jar or Needle Worm. I win the flip and go ahead and go first. A good starting hand as I remember as Opticlops goes into Atk. He plays the same, but doesn’t Atk, instead setting down a bunch of Magics and Traps. Luckily, one of my cards was a Feather Duster, so I dust and bring out Ha Des and attack. From there, I see he’s running a Fiend deck too, as most of the cards I have in my deck too get sent to the Graveyard. Ha Des keeps him on lock and after I see Yata fall, that’s pretty much it. Ro! und 1 to me, 7600-0

Round 2

A reversal of fate this round, as young Robert wails on me early, with an Opticlops onslaught and a misplayed Delinquent Duo costs me 1000LPs. I’m down quick as he brings out more and more monsters for me to combat. Doesn’t’ look good as I’m down to 700 LPs. I pick up a Mirror Force and slap it down, hoping he doesn’t have anything to stop it. And here come the troops, all get Forced and it’s a new ballgame. I quickly get out a Ha Des after I Reborn a Sangan, search for Don Zaloog. Ha Des breaks his Def. as Zaloog goes into his hand. I get a monster to fall and after 2 more rounds, I finally finish him. I tell you the Ultra Rares that came from his deck were stunning. I don’t think he had anything less than a Rare in it. The kid kinda reminds me of….me!!! Well, that was our first time dueling and a good duel it was. Match 2 to me, 700-0.

Match 3

Ghetto Kaiba Vs Daniel (Beatdown Deck)

I think it’s been a while since I’ve played against my IM chatmate Daniel. As I sit at my computer at work, mad because I can’t play any games and work on my deck, Daniel and I are always breaking down Yu-gi-oh! strategies and in general passing the time. I want to send a shoutout to him right fast before all this goes down.

Speaking of cards, I think Daniel has 7 Jinzo’s now. That’s right, seven! Seems he’s taken a page out of the ol’ Kaiba book and is trying to make a whole page of Jinzo’s in his binder. I ain’t mad at you, playa. I wish you luck on it.

So needless to say, I completely forgot what deck he’s playing with now. I know he runs some type of beatdown, but with intimate knowledge of his strategies, you would think I could remember something of benefit. Nada! And I wear a black eye because of it. I have all these neat traps ready to go and all of a sudden, Jinzo! That one move pretty much screws up all of my plans to get Ha Des out next round. This round is ugly and fast, as I scramble trying to get rid of Jinzo, to no avail. That’s round 1 to Daniel, 4800-0.

Round 2

At least I get to go first this time. I see he has a 40-card deck, so he is rolling through his cards with Gracefuls. I try and see if I can counter them this time around. Nope! He gets both again and drops mad cards. I somehow manage to get Jinzo myself this time and along with my Fiends, get his field clear. As the final coup, I reborn his Lily and end the round, about time that card actually was to my benefit. Finally a quick one for me today, 6400-0.

Final Round, Fight!

Daniel comes out swinging with his big monsters again. I am able to hold out just long enough to start getting some monsters of my own. Giant Germ gives me some cover as I bring out Yata Garasu and get Daniel in a Yata Lock to end this match. Good duel with an awesome duelist. I see that I have to go through the good people this week if I expect to make it to my goal.

Match 4 (Semi-Final)

Ghetto Kaiba Vs. Bryan (???? Deck)

Bryan has won this tourney a bunch of times. So it would then be logical that I haven’t faced him in a while. I remember him running Beatdown before, but again that was a while ago, so who knows what his deck can do? I win the flip, but I don’t get any monsters again. All magic and traps, so I play Delinquent Duo in my first turn. I snag a Pot of Greed and he obviously has a hard choice to make. Good play on my part. He ends up getting Jinzo on the field and hitting me with it. I Snatch Steal his Jinzo and get a little payback with a Spirit Reaper in Atk mode. So after a few rounds of stalling, I finally get out Yata for an awesome Yata-Jinzo-Reaper lock that clinches this round for me. Ghetto K. 2200-0

Round 2

I play Duo again in my first round to disrupt him and get some magic out. Again, my monsters hide from my starting hand. Evidently the same thing is happening to Bryan cuss, he doesn’t attack me for 2 rounds. We are frantically trying to draw something to bring a monster out, finally I pluck Don Zaloog and he gets in a cheap hit and I elect to take a card out of his hand. He plays Confiscation to do the same to me. I have a MST, Raigeki and Change of Heart. That’s a hard choice, but he sends Raigeki back. I MST his facedown card, which turns out to be Imperial Order, which he activates. I have him down to 1200, so he elects not to pay and put faith in his next draw. I’m all tense, hoping it isn’t Raigeki or some save-your-butt combo. Luckily for me, it isn’t and I get the win. Whew! It’s always to the wire with this guy. Match to Kaiba, 7000-0.

Final Round

Ghetto Kaiba Vs. Jakob (Resident Trainer) in 1 Round Duel (Fiber Annoy Deck)

Besides 1 Round Duels with Curly-Haired-Dude, I hate 1 Round Duels with Jakob. I know he’s good, but man no one here seems to have the luck he does against me. It’s like he doesn’t even try to play against me. While the rest of the store huddles around, we get ready to battle. It is already downhill as I get mostly traps and no attacking monsters. I know he runs that Fiber, so I really want to search for a Wolf to help stop all of his flips. The chance doesn’t come as he flips Fiber as I’m trying to get out Necrofear and hits me with a Giant Germ. Already I’m in the whole as he brings out Jinzo and basically negates my backfield entirely. My last attempt to beat him was to have Jinzo destroy my Newdoria so I could take Jinzo with me and it still is a game. Alas, Jakob played Nobleman on my face down card and that was the ballgame. As always, I can never get my cards against him. It’s all good, I’ll take my Second Place pack and bear it.

I actually did a whole lot better than I thought I would. Besides winning my personal Tournament this week, this was the first time in a while I beat so many of the best players (matches 2-4) in one day. So with a few tweaks, I feel like the crown is with reach. Here’s to kickin’ butt next week and winning it all. The bar has been raised!

Onward to my Props and Slops

Props:

All the regulars at the Toy Chest who I hadn’t seen in a month: Daniel, the Paylor Boys, Mister Sam, my Yu-Ghett-Oh! Possemates James, Mike and Chris M. and all the college kids now playing that don’t make me look so old anymore!

Finally seeing the Finals after 3 months almost!

That cute TOO YOUNG FOR ME girl that runs the counter now, (for shame Kaiba!) you other guys should be all over her and not these cards!

Slops:

Now winning it all (Duh!)

Yet another 1-round Final Screwover by Toy Chest

Too many traps at this Jinzo-Friendly tourney

No trades!! Why can’t I find another Jinzo?

Overrated Helpoemer being of no use to me even with a Fiend Deck
