Up to this point, I had always played a beatdown…but with cards like gem elf coming out in Lon and an increased # of GAFs being used at this store ( I have none) I knew my La Jinns would never be able to stand up to the new raw beatdowns, and created this deck.  Its not great, but I like it.

The strategy of this deck is to hit my opponent quick and near fatally.  My few traps are counters or magic removal, and that cylinder that I pulled right out of a pack.  My magics are the staples, along with monster removal and equips for my pigeons.  The monsters are raw firepower, my pigeons, some monster removal, ways to get my pigeons out, a MoF (I only have 1) and the nimble momongas, which, though mostly there for LP, sacrifice, and sometimes attack purposes, they also work as a stall if I cant draw the cards I want.

I try to clear the field and attack my opponent directly, disregarding my own monsters and LP.  For those of you that don’t know, masks of brutality are like axes, but you take 1k damage during each of your standby phases.  I don’t have and cant afford any axes, so im using these.  Offerings to the doomed… (it’s a card of the day if you don’t know what it does) sure losing a draw sucks, but if I have control and need to stop my opponent from getting out that one monster, or to kill a Jinzo (my opponents or mine) this card is unmatched, being a  quick play.

It begins…

I apologize to you guys if I screw up in this report, I cant remember all the details.

I arrived at the store pretty early to do some trading.  The store was pretty full, but not as crowded as it sometimes is.  Its you lose your gone style, ( no loser bracket or anything like that), and this is the only tourney ive found around this area, so if you want to play yugioh for more than a half hour a week, you have to be good or lucky, which I seem to be neither of.

Except when I got that cylinder.

Round 1- Pigeon Boy vs   Matthew

He started by putting together both of his decks.  I didn’t care that he had different foils, seeing as how his deck was now 100 cards.

Duel 1: Nice kid, but it was over quickly for him.  I had a decent hand, with a meb, nobleman, tribute to doomed, pigeon, and something else.  I went first, drew a malev nuzzler, put the bug down and that trap that I forget.  His turn, he does the same thing.  My turn, I get mask of brutality.  I crossout his face down, suspecting it was a bug, but it was that card that is used as an equip card to get LP equal to half of the attack of the monster that killed it.  I then put down a pigeon and equipped with both things (my face down mustve been  a counter because I wasn’t worried) and attack.  He activates the trap, I get worried, buts its just a card that gives him + LP equal to and attacking monsters atk.  Hes now at about 10k lp.  I attack with the bug.  His turn, he puts another card face down.  I draw mst, take 1k damage from the mask, tttd the facedown (nothing important) and attack again.  Put down a nimble momonga.  His turn, once again facedown.  I tribute bug for jinzo, and attack the facdedown steel scorpion, a crappy version of MEB.  I just kill him quickly with my pigeon and Jinzo…over in a turn.

Duel 2: I dominated again, but he did some damage by change of hearting my facedown wotbf.  I change of hearted his facedown on my turn and sacked it for summoned skull, powered up with a mask.  I kill him next trun with those and a pigeon.  I like to go into detail when writing these reports, but that really all that happened :/

Round 2-Pigeon Boy vs (game over) Alan

I knew I would lose this one.  Alan wins nearly every week, and most people don’t expect to beat him.  Unfortunately, I was playing him now.

Duel 1:  He goes first, uses graceful charity, puts down 2 m/t s, and NO MONSTER.  I could have attacked him with a nimble momonga, but I was scared.  I figured he must have some kind of plan, right?  Well, I put the momonga facedown, afraid to attack him.  Writing this hours after the tournament, I still don’t know if he was bluffing or not.  He crosouts the momonga, and attack with a GAF.  What a nifty start for me…I get out a  pigeon with mask, and kill the goblin and attack him…surprisingly  has dosnt counter or anything.  He cant get out anything to kill my pigeon, and puts 1 facedwon. He also uses graceful charity, discards fissure and something else.  I take 1k damage from mask.  I crossout his fd (mof) and attack with the pigeon, and a bazoo I put out (couldn’t use the effect).  He had low LP now.  He killed my pigeon with tribute to doomed, and for a while we just exchanged minor blows, countering and destroying each others magic.  He still had hand control, because I usually had to play  a card as soon as I drew it.  Eventually I cleared his field somehow, and wouldave finished him in1 turn.  He then used and extremely powerful magic or trap, imnt sure what  it was, but it probably wouldave ended the game in his favor.  Luckily, I played the solemn judgment I set last turn, and attacked him next battle phase for the win.

Duel 2: Not so good for me.  H starts by noblemaning my facedown…harpie’s brother.  Well, I had needed to put something down.  I never pulled any good cards, and I really needed some magic counters and destruction.  I got a bazoo out, but only after taking heavy damage and with his SoRL out my bazoo soon died.  I tried to reborn his Gemini elf later in the duel, but he used call of the haunted and took the elf, leaving me to get a bazoo and not be able to use the effect, or some other junk like MoF and Meb, which would have had to be played face up.  I took the bazoo in defense, and he got out a tribute (either jinzo or SS) and powered it up with united we stand.  Bazoo gone.  I had a pigeon in my hand and lots of equips now, but only enough to keep my bird alive if he didn’t get out another monster, thanx to united we stand.  I equip it anyway and…yay…he uses imperial order.  He kills the third and attacks me directly, I have very low LP.  I was able to stall for a bit while he took damage from the imp order, but didn’t draw a monster when I needed it and conceded.

Duel 3: He has field and hand control from the beginning to the end.  He killed my set torrential tribute at the beginning, and kept attack me and my monsters with GAFs.  He had a good start when he change of hearted my monster AND put out a GAF.  He countered my dark hole, but I was able to do some damage and got him down to about 4000.  However, I could never keep field control for long and just couldn’t get the magic I needed.  He dominated with the GAFs, which he kept resurrecting.

I made some trades after the match, and now have a SoRL instead of torrential tribute.  I also finally have  a magic jammer, which I think will help me a lot at this store in the future.  If you have to lose, you might as well lose to the champ, and it was a pretty fun tourney anyways.  Almost all of the regulars were here today.  I played 2 casual duels with people, which were too easy and fast to even describe here.  Bought a vanilla coke and went home…ill definitely be back nest week.
