Subject: Operation: Barrel Dragon, Nathan Hoyt, Cardhuas Games, Seattle WA Name: Nathan Hoyt Date: September 8, 2002 Deck: Operation: Barrel Dragon Location: Cardhaus Games, Seattle WA Participants: 16 Entry Fee: $5 First off, here's my deck: Monsters (22): 1x Barrel Dragon 3x Summoned Skull 3x La Jinn 2x 7 Colored Fish 2x Witch of the Black Forest 3x Wall of Illusion 1x Sangan 2x Mask of Darkness 3x Man-Eater Bug 2x Magician of Faith Magic Cards (9): 1x Monster Reborn 2x Heavy Storm 1x Dark Hole 1x Change of Heart 1x Card Destruction 1x Tribute to the Doomed 2x Fissure Trap Cards (11): 1x Mirror Force 2x Magic Jammer 2x 7 Tools 1x Solemn Judgement 3x Trap Hole 2x Waboku I had Suijin and BEWD in this deck also, but I took them out and just went with the best 2-tribute monster Barrel Dragon. Before the tournament, I traded my 1st ed. Suijin and 1st ed. Shield and Sword for a REBD unl. Yes that's right, for a REBD! That made my day right there. This was my 4th time at this tournament and the first 3 times, I lost two duels and didn't place. But this time, I finally had Mirror Force, 7 Tools, Solemn Judgement, Magic Jammer, and Heavy Storm. Most people there knew I got my new cards so they didn't want to have to face me, but this one kid Narin didn't know. He was walking around showing off to his friend pointing out everyone he could beat. He pointed to me and said, "I can beat him." I said "Oh you can? Is that right?" with a grin on my face. I was hoping I would get the pleasure of eliminating him from the tournament. Well, on to the duels. 1st Duel Me vs. Amy She didn't have very many good cards and I had faced her before so I knew this wasn't going to be a challenge. She took forever though every turn so it took a lot longer than it should have. Anyways, I beat her 2-0 easily and went on to the next round. 2nd Duel Me vs. Deepak This guy had bought a MRD Box, but I don't think he bought any starter decks. Basically, in both duels the only life point damage he did was with Tremendous Fire which he used 3 times each match. That is not a very smart card to play when you are facing someone who has a better deck than you. You can take me down to 100 life points and I can still come out on top. I beat him easily so I was going on to the semi-finals. 3rd Duel (Just for fun) Me vs. Burton I was waiting for the winner of Matt vs. Narin to see who I would play in the semi-finals. This guy wasn't dueling anyone so I challenged him to a duel for fun. He was in his 20's so I figured he'd be a challenge. He kept using Jirai Gumo which for some reason he thought was good. Personally I think Jirai Gumo is a stupid card that I would NEVER use in my deck. He attacked with it twice and both times he called it wrong and took life point damage. I let his Jirai Gumos stay out there until I got Dark Hole or MEB or Summoned Skull. I beat him easily in two matches. I was still waiting for my opponent so I watched Matt vs. Narin to check out the competition. Turns out that Matt was Burton's brother and Burton let Matt use his good deck. Unfortuantely, Matt had no idea how to use it. He managed to take one game from Narin, but he lost the other two badly. 4th Duel Me vs. Narin The moment I was waiting for. I got my chance to teach him a lesson. The first duel, we each started with all monsters in our hands so it was a race to see who would draw magic/traps first. I had him on the ropes and he tried to use Mirror Force but I countered it with 7 Tools and I took the first match. The second match was the same, I dominated the whole time and pulled off a great combo to win it. I used Heavy Storm to wipe out his magic/traps, the set my Monster Reborn on the field. I summoned SS for my then used Card Destruction. I had a Barrel Dragon in my hand so I used Monster Reborn to take it back. I flipped coins and got 2 heads to eliminate his monster. The I unleashed the wrath of the 2 best tribute monsters in the game. I beat him like all the others 2-0. Championship Me (3-0) vs. Sean (3-0) Duel between the two undefeateds. I had dueled Sean before in the tourney, but lost to him. In the first match, I couldn't get anything going and he beat me pretty easy. This had me panicking though. If I lost, I'd still get second place but I wanted to win it all. I had to take the next two matches to win it. The next match, I uses my Mirror Force early to wipe out a La Jinn, which may have been a waste of a Mirror Force, but I had to do it. I took Mirror Force back with Mask of Darkness so that get him from attacking. I used Solemn Judgement and 7 Tools to counter his traps and Barrel Dragon's effect finished him off to take the victory. Last match. This was a real duel. We were exchanging blows back and forth taking down each others life points. I was at about 1100 and he had like 2000 something. I used my 7 Tools to counter him and that took my life points to 100. Talk about living on the edge. I got him down to 700, so it was basically the next person to strike would win. He used SoDS, but I kept sending it back to the top of his deck. He got stuck to where he wasn't drawing any new cards so finally he had no monsters and I won. If he hadn't used SoDS, he could have gotten his Princess of Tsurgi which was about 2 cards away. If he would have got that I would have lost. So I finally one the tournament. I got 4 MRD packs and 3 Japanese packs for winning. I get a tournament pack too when they finally arrive. I got my 3rd 7 Tools in one of the MRD packs which I used to trade for Gate Guardian. So now I have Tri-Horned and GG so I only need Thousand Dragon and Gaia the Dragon Champion to complete my secret rares. I played this guy Eric afterwards and we bet cards and I won a Kazejin. I'll be going back next week because I need to win once more before Magic Ruler comes out. I need to get some more money before I can buy any Magic Ruler cards so I might get whooped for a couple of weeks. Alright I'm outta here. Props: To Sean for being the only person to beat me. To the girl who traded me REBD for Suijin and Shield and Sword. To the guy who traded me Gate Guardian. To Eric for betting cards even though he knew he would lose. No Love: For Narin for thinking he could whoop me. For the guy who tried to trade me his Suijin for my Horn of Heaven, Garnecia Elefantis, and Kuriboh. Later.
