bruce wee Deck: monster removal Tournament Site: Gamer's Realm City/State: West Windsor, NJ My first official tournament! Type of Tournament: single-elimination rounds....so you if lose a match, you're out....sucks..... Total amount of people: around 23! Now onto the deck Monsters(21) Magics(12) Traps(7) 1x Barrel Dragon 1x Monster Reborn 1x Mirror Force 2x Judgeman 1x Dark Hole 3x Trap Hole 2x 7 Colored Fish 1x Pot of Greed 2x Waboku 1x La Jinn 1x Change of Heart 1x Ultimate Offering 1x Dark Elf 1x Tribute to the Doomed 2x Neo 3x Fissure 3x Battle Ox 2x Heavy Storm 1x Wall of Illusion 2x Stim-Pack Side Deck: 2x Giant Soldier of Stone 1x Magic Jammer 1x Magician of Faith 1x Card Destruction 1x Mask of Darkness 1x Block Attack 1x Big Eye 1x Reverse Trap 2x Man-Eater Bug 1x Dragon Capture Jar 1x Hane-Hane 1x Robbin' Goblin 1x Jirai Gumo 1x Trap Master 1x Big Eye 1x Hane-Hane 2x Reinforcements 1x Paralyzing Potion 1x Germ Infection 1x Sword of Deep-Seated First Match: This guy was a breeze. I used the standard "monster-removal/massive assault" strategy and was able to put this guy away. Second Match: This guy was EVEN easier. He sported a hundred-something deck that consisted of a mixed bag of things like Exodia parts, monster removal cards, stall cards, and offensive cards. That was his downfall. Because he had such a large deck, he found himself often without any cards to play, and that costed him the match. There were other players in the tournament that were notoriously good like the guy with the Exodia deck. Around the time that I finished my second match, the guy with the Exodia deck made a scene by pulling off an Exodia. Everyone was in amazement, including me because I had never seen it done before (although that's because I never saw someone use an Exodia deck before). His amazing feat started to shake me up because I didn't know how to deal with an Exodia deck effectively. (I don't mean using cards like Card Destruction, Ancient Telescope, or Robblin' Goblin.) I started feeling a sense of apprehension because I knew it was only a matter of time before I faced him. Third Match: next guy...not a bad duelist and didn't have a bad deck, so I think I beated him because simply my deck was stronger all-around.Oh yea...I think another reason that I beat him was because his deck was unbalanced. He had too many sac-monsters, so that's why he drew too many and became stuck sometimes. This guy REALLY liked his last wills. He frequently kept on ripping those out after I destroyed his monsters with trap holes and cards like such. It worked as a good strategy and was the single thing that annoyed me the most because his monster ranks were going stronger even when some of his monsters were getting destroyed. The first duel was going to be mine, but I became a softie and started going easy on him. And you know what? He won that duel with only a handful of lifepoints left. I essentially gave that duel to him because I could have won. After that duel, I stopped going softie and decided to show no mercy. The next two duels I played mercilessly and with a determination to win. The duels ended in victory for me. Although I won, he was still a good sport about it. Guy with Exodia deck pulls number two around this time. I grow even more nervous. Semi-Finals: Aghhhhhhh!!!! I playing the guy with the exodia deck! I am not any less nervous when I start the match with him. I adjust my deck, contemplate ways to counteract his EXODIA deck. I stuff a Card Destruction and some other cards into my deck to give me confidence, but it still leaves me only with a sense of nervousness. At this point, I'm so nervous that I can't think normally. All I'm thinking is, "Don't attack his search cards", "Watch out for set search cards". I avoided his search cards as much as possible like my mind told me to and I tried to find ways to hit him hard and fast because I knew that was the only way to beat this guy. At one point I drew a Card Destruction. I was like "Yes! This game is over!" So without giving it a second thought, I slapped it down. The guy was like, "Hmm...that's nice...you got a Card Destruction." He discards his KURIBOH. Then I slapped myself on the head(inside my head). I had made a stupid move and it was because I wasn't thinking straight. "Why did use it when he had only ONE card?", I was thinking. Meanwhile, while I was trying disrupt his Exodia strategy, he used my strategy against me. He knew I was going to try disrupt his Exodia strategy and he knew I was prepared to do it (he even told me so afterwards), so instead of concentrating on that strategy, he turned around his witch of black forests, summoned summoned skulls, and went on the offensive. The strategy ended up working. It crippled my lifepoints. For the rest of match I played with desperation while he was dominating. I ended up losing all the duels to him. That was end of the tournament for me. Guy with Exodia deck went onto the finals against Blondie. That match, he pulled NUMBER 3! Geez...that guy is unstoppable. The guy beat Blondie and was the sole champion of the tournament. I'll be prepared for him next time... What I learned from that tournament was that psycological strategies play a big part in duels too, as I had learned from my match with the guy with the exodia deck. He got me scared with his exodia deck and all I was concentrating on was disrupting his exodia strategy, taking away his chance to win. But that didn't work because A) he was expecting it, B) he played using a different strategy, and C) his deck had versatility. He told me that his deck had 55 cards--40 of them were for pulling out Exodia and 15 of them just in case he needed to go on the offensive. So people if you ever face a guy with an exodia deck, don't be nervous because that'll make it even harder for you to think of ways to beat him. kVkERIC@hotmail.com bruce wee Deck: monster removal Tournament Site: Gamer's Realm City/State: West Windsor, NJ My first official tournament!
