Subject: Random-Pile-O-Stuff Deck, Joe I, Major League Memories, RI Hello one and all. This is The Mighty Mollusk; you might remember my article about deck archetypes. I've gotten some interesting feedback on that, and a follow-up may be coming sometime soonish, but that's not what I'm writing for today.... Date of tourney: 9/28/02 Number of participants: 10 Entry fee: None Prizes: None (trial tournament) My big mess of a deck.... Monsters (32): 3x Blue-Eyes White Dragon 1x Seiyaryu 2x Summoned Skull 2x Curse of Dragon 3x 7 Colored Fish 2x La Jinn The Mystical Genie of the Lamp 3x Dark Elf 1x Gemini Elf (level 4, 1900/900, Earth, Spellcaster) 2x Big Eye 3x Magician of Faith 3x Man-Eater Bug 3x Lord of D 2x Witch of the Black Forest 1x Trap Master 1x Cyber Jar Magic (13): 1x Heavy Storm 1x Dark Hole 1x Raigeki 1x Monster Reborn 1x Change of Heart 1x Soul Exchange 1x Card Destruction 2x Swords of Revealing Light 2x The Flute of Summoning Dragon 1x Horn of the Unicorn 1x Black Pendant Traps (7): 3x Trap Hole 2x Waboku 1x Acid Trap Hole 1x Seven Tools of the Bandit Side Deck (15): 3x Weather Report 3x Labyrinth Wall 1x Princess of Tsurugi 1x Armed Ninja 1x Pot of Greed 1x Tribute to the Doomed 1x Catapult Turtle 1x Robbin' Goblin 2x Last Will 1x Judge Man Total Deck Count (not counting Side Deck): 52 Going by my own rant, my deck would be a combo of beatdown (obviously) and Lord of D, with a minor in monster removal. It kills things real good. }=]> I find that monsters tend to be more useful than magic and trap cards, hence the overwhelming numbers. As for the side deck, most of it is entirely situational. Weather Report for people who like to abuse SoRL, Catapult Turtle and Robbin' Goblin for Exodia (which I actually didn't see at all), Labyrinth Walls just for fun. The rest is filler because the rule book requires 15 cards or no side deck (and before somebody tells me to put Pot of Greed into the main deck, I've never found it to be very useful). Anyway, on to the tourney! Round 1: Honestly, I'm not sure why this person entered. He didn't know how to play at all. I ended up teaching him the basics over the course of the game, but then I got lucky with my draws. My starting hand included Lord of D and a BEWD, and I ended up drawing a Curse of Dragon and a Flute. A Magician brought back an early Raigeki, followed by a combined assault of 6500 in one shot. On the next turn, BEWD cleared out his defense monster and Curse of Dragon ended it. Round 2: I got a by. Hey, the remaining duelist count was an odd number and I got lucky again. While I waited, I watched another match which came down to both players having less than 300 life points left. A timely Change of Heart ended that one, and we moved on to round 3. Round 3: And now I ended up playing the person who I'd just watched. Hmm. Karma is gonna catch up to me at the next tourney. He put up a good fight, too. Seven Tools saved me from a Mirror Force....then I drew Heavy Storm. Could've used it a turn sooner. Dark Hole cleared the field, followed by a Reborned Summoned Skull with a Horn of the Unicorn and a Gemini Elf for a hefty load of damage. My next turn, Gemini Elf attacks a Wall of Illusion, sending both off the field and leaving Summoned Skull with a clear shot. On the final turn, the re-summoned Gemini Elf...hits ANOTHER Wall of Illusion. Fortunately, Summoned Skull remained in play to seal the deal. Round 4 (Finals): For the first time, I went into my side deck, as I knew my opponent relied on Swords of Revealing Light. Those three Weather Reports came in handy, big time. (For those unfamiliar with the card, Weather Report's flip effect destroys an opponent's SoRL, then gives you a second attack phase.) My starting hand was pretty bad: Trap Hole, Flute of Summoning Dragon, Big Eye, BEWD, and Dark Hole. First draw: Witch of the Black Forest. Meanwhile, he had a Pot of Greed and SoRL. This duel took a while, with both of us abusing SoRL and only one of my Weather Reports coming up (and that one from the WotBF). Eventually, I managed to pull off a Lord of D/FoSD with one Blue-Eyes, stall for time (without SoRL, as both had been used, along with two Magicians of Faith), and get Raigeki for a narrow victory. Further inspection revealed my next draw to be a second BEWD. Heh. Well, there was no prize for the tourney. This was a trial run to see how well it works out. I think it went pretty well. }=]> Of course, with all my luck this time, I'll probably get slaughtered in the first round next time, but hey, it's all in good fun. And on the plus side, I now have three peices of Exodia. Two more and I can work on a new deck. Wooha. See you in a few weeks after the next tourney. And as always, good luck, and May The Heart of the Cards be With You. ::::is dragged off by George Lucas's lawyers::: The Mighty Mollusk themightymollusk@yahoo.com __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
