Deck name: Deck of the Forbidden one Tournament location: Underground games, Charlotte N.C. website:www.undergroundgamesofcharlotte.com 9/23/02 Hello, this is my first tourney report to Pojo, however this is the 4th sanctioned tournament i have attended. This is also my first (and probalbly last) time running with an exodia deck. I had seen a few used previously and one of my friends once won with an exodia deck so I thought I would try it out to see how it played. I did not expect to get very far with this deck however I was quite impressed with the results. Magic Ruler was not yet allowed because it has to be out for a month before allowed in tourney play... I had to substitude two cards out... no big deal though :). Deck List: Monsters:26 Left leg of the forbidden one Right leg of the forbidden one Left arm of the forbidden one Right arm of the forbidden one Exodia the forbidden one Summoned Skull(3) La Jinn(2) Seven colored fish(2) Witch of the Black Forest(2) Wall of Illusion(2) Sangan(2) Sangan man eater bug(3) magican of faith(3) Magic:10 Swords of revealing light(2) Rageki Dark Hole Pot of Greed Change of Heart Monster Reborn Heavy Storm Last Will(2) Traps:9 Trap hole(3) Horn of the heaven(3) Mirror force Magic Jammer(2) Total:45 Side Deck:15(of course) Shadow Ghoul(2) Seven colored fish Hane-Hane(3) Card Destruction(2) Tribute to the Doomed(3) Seven tools of the bandit(2) Fake trap(2) Match 1: Kevin vs Nick This match was really easy and I kind of felt sorry for the kid. I eyed his deck and it was easily twice as big as mine, and without deck protectors. I asked him how many cards it had in it and he told me about 100. The next thing he told me is that his friend that was with him was probably going to win the tournament because he had a gate gaurdian deck :). His friends deck was only about 80 cards and he lost in the first round... Duel 1: I finished him off pretty quickly with a summoned skull and lajinn. He dealt me no lp damage during this duel. Duel 2: This one lasted a little bit longer. He managed to dark hole my summoned skull. Next turn he played a man eater bug face down and ended my turn. "This card has helped me out alot" he said. He played time wizzard in attack mode and ended his turn. I pulled out witch of the black forest and killed it. Next he played a face down defender. I attacked it with the witch and dealt myself 450 dmg because it was a mystic horseman. He play another face down creature and ended his turn. I pulled a monster reborn and brought back my summoned skull. I hit Killed his face down monster which was a princess of tsurgi and dealt myself 1500 dmg for the m/t cards on the field. After that he didnt pull anything else good and i killed him off a few turns later. Match 2: Kevin vs. Nikki This match went about the same as the last but the kid was a little more experienced and had a *MUCH* smaller deck. Duel 1: The first round he dealt me some minor damage but he only hit me twice before i killed him. Duel 2: Pulled sword of revealing light early in the game and beat him down. Heavy stormed to kill all his magic cards and i kept bring swords back with magican of faith, Once again I hacked away with summoned skull and one other small creature. No dmg to my life points this round. This kid may have lost but he still enjoyed himself and had a great attitude. I adimre that and hope to see him again when he updates his deck. Match 3: Kevin vs Matt G. Duel 1:This guy had a decent deck but he had a Skull Knight fusion teched into it(dont know why... he never even got it out). First match i got dealt minor lp dmg and i kept trap holing his monsters. I ended up playing a piece of exodia on the field and then sacing it for a summoned skull (so far my best friend :)). Killed him off a few rounds later because I wouldnt let him have ne monsters on the field due to trap holes and horn of the heaven. Duel 2: Pulled change of heart, two trap holes, and two magian of faiths. Got out a lajin and kept change of hearting his monsters over and over with magican of faith. Took his Hane-Hane once and returned Magican of faith to my hand and reused her. No Lp dmg once again very fast match. Match 4(Quarter finals)Kevin vs Greg This was a really cool match because Greg is one of my Best friends and I came to the tournament with him. He's an excelent duelist and this was one of my best matches. Duel 1: First round I dominated and kept killing his monsters. He dealt me minor damaged cause i got hit by his summoned skull. Duel 2: He dominated me this time. I had trouble getting monsters and when i did he removed them. I think i got one hit off with la jinn. Duel 3: This was the closest one. We trade blows back on forth for a time and traded monsters for monsters with him staying in the lead. He got me down to 1000 lps and I started to worry. Next turn i pulled Swords of revealing light. WOO HOO! I caught up and I had only one monster on the field. If he didnt pull any thing I would kill him. He drew his last card and got... nothing. Game set match. Awesome duel. Match 5: Me vs. Brandon(Semi finals) Id met Brandon before and played a few matches with him. He was pretty good but I didnt think I'd have to much trouble. Well... his deck has changed and this was my most intense match this time. I was ready, but the challenge was more than I expected. Duel 1: We traded blows but he got in the lead early with a Summoned skull. I killed his and brought out mine and got a hit off. He killed mine and we exchanged blows until he defeated me. Duel 2: I won this time and killed him with la jinn and witch of the black forest i think. I pulled swords pretty early. Duel 3: My most intense match of the tournament. I started off good by getting a summoned skull out early, and i had two exodia pieces in my hand. He defended and killed it. The next turn i pulled another piece. A few turns later he had his own summoned skull out and killed my lajinn first(7300 lp for me), and then the next round my sangan (piece #4 of exodia). I played another defender. He got a jirai gumo out and brought back my summoned skull back with monster reborn. He removed my defender with a monster removal card and attacked for 7200! Yikes! He called the coin right for jari gumo :((no lp dmg to him) and then card destructed me. I stalled for several turns and kept trying to bring swords into play or back from the grave with magician of faith (I got it back once) but he kept stopping me. Wall of Illusion defended me and he took 50dmg from attacking it a few times. I ended up clearing his field eventually and I pulled a lajinn and wacked him once. He killed it next turn. I had a few monsters up and he was pulling magic. I had a sangan, and a la jinn up and attacked. MIRROR FORCE AHHH! I had one creature in defense and i despreatly tried to put it in attack and attack again. He pulled a lajinn and killed it next turn. We shook hands and congratulated each other on the awesome match. I can't wait to face him again! Conclusion: Well the Exodia deck got me all the way to the semi-finals but I didn't pull it once. So what does this mean? Well, this deck has awesome stalling abilties and can go on the offensive. I found out that exodia hindered me more than it helped me. Conclusion: Exodia can be a very fun deck to try out and build, but it will get owned if it faces a discard deck or if a beat down deck clears out/ counters the defense. I would recommend trying it for yourself but not keeping it as it teaches you how to take a defensive posture and use monster recruiting(ie sangan, witch of the black forest, last will). Where to go from here?: I dont know I got two more polymerizations (one traded to my friend for spell binding circle and one traded to the store) so I may test out a deck that is supplemented by the Black skull dragon fusion. The Good:Awesome match with Greg and Brandon, and Gettiing to the semi- finals. The Bad:The store ran out of tourney packs so i have an offical I.O.U.. Having to go to work for a few hours after the tourney(which was over at 6) The Ugly:Some kid traded a blue eyes toon dragon to one of my friends and wanted to trade back.
