It was also a good day, since the day started off with the end of Daylight Savings Time, which means I got an extra hour of sleep. The Disruptor Deck came ready to duel. 1st match Opponent: bye A lot of the regulars did not show up, so there were fewer than the usual number of advanced duelists. Geraldine had told me that the man with the “D” deck did not want to play me, so he partied hard on Saturday night, couldn’t make it on Sunday and “walled” himself in his room. Yes you, Alan. j/k 2nd match, semi-finals Opponent: Jeff (Direct Damage, or as he renamed it “Dirty Cheese”) Jeff had advanced to the semi-finals by beating the current number one ranked duelist at the store, Steffon. Watching the duel between the two, it looked like Jeff’s Dirty Cheese was too dirty for Steffon’s Clean-Down Deck. The first duel, I won with a combination of GSOS and MEB attacking for a couple of turns with Robbin’ Goblin taking cards from his hand. The second duel, the tables turned very fast, and I was destroyed with Jeff only suffering 1000 LP damage. Jeff had modified his deck slightly, and added more power-ups to his direct damage attackers. He had a Gaia Power field card powering up a Rainbow Flower with an Axe of Despair. That’s 1900 direct damage every turn. The third duel was very close. We were exchanging damage back and forth, and I was down to less than 1000 LP, thanks to a couple of Solemn Judgments. But eventually he was playing a card draw by draw from his deck, and I was cautious to attack, since he had a card on his M/T zone, which I thought was a Mirror Force. But by doing a little damage each turn (one monster in ATK mode, leave one in DEF, etc), I was able to win. 3rd match, finals Opponent: Donald (Beatdown) I did not notice this until I was typing this report, but my 2nd and 3rd matches were against the same people as my last report. Donald had advanced to the finals again, and this only shows how much experienced he’s gotten from dueling, and how much better he’s become. I knew that I had to be careful, since I’ve noticed that he’s been improving. This match also came down to the 3rd and last duel to decide the winner. The 1st duel, I had barely won, but the 2nd duel, I got blown away in less than 8 turns. One of the kids watching actually said, “I’ve never seen anyone kick your butt like that before.” All I can say was, “That’s what beatdowns are supposed to do.” The third duel I came out firing by attacking directly, thanks to Share the Pain clearing the field, recycled twice by MOF. I then won with a combination of Solemn Judgment countering his Raigeki, then me following up with a Cannon Soldier launching party. 4th match, championship Opponent: Phillip (Offensive Exodia) This was Phillip’s first time to the championship, and he had beaten me before in the past when I had my Catapult Turtle deck. 1st duel, 1st turn, he laid out 3 M/T and a defense monster. I used Heavy Storm and keep attacking. I was able to beat him down before he could assemble Exodia. He even had to put a leg in DEF mode, since he couldn’t draw other monsters. 2nd duel, he sets up better, and was able to get 4 Exodia pieces. I then activate Robbin’ Goblin and discard three pieces to the graveyard. I was feeling confident, then he flips a trap over and it was Backup Soldier/Reserves. He gets three pieces back and draws….but it wasn’t the 5th piece. So I clear the field again and attack, discarding more cards with Robbin’ Goblin. I was then able to take his LP to zero. I won the tournament, and claimed my prize. My total winnings for today: 1 tournament pack for entering, and 1 Magic Ruler pack for winning! Man, I must be the luckiest guy in the world, the prizes I got was great. I got a Red Dragon (winged dragon, guardian of the fortress #2), easter island statues, and the judgment hand! For MRL, my rare was the Nimble Momonga or something like that. Whatever. Peace! What’s up! to the hardcore Yu-Gi-Oh! gamers at a World of Books, keeping the game going. Get lost! to the thieves that steal cards from kids (I don’t care how old you are, didn’t your mama tell you that stealing is wrong?!)
