Subject: Counterfusion Deck, by Reynaldo K. Cruz, All Things Anime and Manga, Phoenix, AZ Counter Fusion Deck...creator, Reynaldo K. Cruz All Things Anime and Manga 24th St and Osborn Phoenix, AZ 85040 Friday, Oct. 18 2002 (B.PSV.) Greetings fellow duelists, and a happy weekend to all. It's me, counterfusion24, and it's time for another tourney report. I made some changes. As "promised," I added Relinquished to my deck, and it did pretty well. I also used some knowledge provided by one of you tip-posters out there, and whoever you are, mad props, as the kids say. Hope people find this tourney report interesting. Oh, and let me say this right now. Pharoah's Servant ROCKS. Much better than Magic Ruler. On to the show. Deck Particulars: Fusion Deck: Black Skull Dragon x3 (that's right, no Twin Headed Thunder Dragon!) Monsters: 22 7 Colored Fish x3 Man Eater Bug x2 Magician of Faith x3 Witch of the Black Forest x2 (enjoy it while you can!) Sangan x2 Mask of Darkness x2 Goddess of the Third Eye x1 Versago the Destroyer x2 (tourney pack luck! yay!) Summoned Skull x3 Cyber Jar x1 Barrel Dragon x1 Sonic Bird x1 Relinquished x1 Magic and Trap: 20 Magic Jammer x2 (I LOVE Magic Drain from PSV) Seven Tools of the Bandit x2 Mirror Force x1 Black Illusion Ritual x1 Pot of Greed x1 Share the Pain x3 (thanks for the tip share the pain/last will guy, whoever you are) Raigeki x1 Dark Hole x1 Snatch Steal x1 Monster Reborn x1 Change of Heart x1 Heavy Storm x2 Polymerization x3 Soooo... It was a grrreat day. Great like a box of Kellog's great. Fresh from getting one and a half boxes of Pharoah's Servant (sp?) my brother and I head to the tourney. See, we usually dual on different days or at different stores, but today we couldn't. But we ended up getting seeded on opposite brackets, so it worked out, well, the aforementioned "grrreat." By the way, I'm quite proud of my little brother (I'm 24 and he's about to be 14), as he's 8th in the western region and in the top 30 (i think) in the nation. Round 1: At last, no newb! When Eric found out he was dueling me, he groaned and said "oh no, i'm gonna lose!" which I tried to squash, as you never know what you're going to draw. I tried to encourage him, but some people...oh well. It did go my way. I was able to use share the pain to great effect. First duel I set Sangan first turn, with 7 Fish and Share Pain in my hand, with some other stuff I don't recall. He draws, sets monster, uses de-spell on, oh, right, my seven tools, then ends. I draw, use Pain, fetch Sonic Bird, summon him, search for Illusion Ritual, end turn. He sets a card, I attack, it's, er, Man Eater Bug, I think. What ended up happening is I got out Relinquinshed, used Share Pain on his next face down monster, absorbed his second, and attacked with 7 Fish. In a few more turns it was over, as I used the MEB/Share Pain combo to great effect. Second Duel went even faster. I actually got to use the Illusion Ritual plus Monster Reborn with Barrel Dragon from his sacrifice, absorbed his face down monster (it was cyber jar), and attacked for 2600. Two turns later, after successfull flips on BDragon, it was over. Shook his hand, waited for duel 2. While waiting, Emmanuel, a former tourney winner, commented that my next duel was gonna be tough, as it was against a kid that had beat him twice. Hmmm. When you hear that someone you've been beaten by (even though you have defeated them as well) has been beaten by someone else, and soundly, and that you're going to play THEM, well, it gives you pause. We dueled. I did well. Straight duels, no losses. He had a pretty straightforward deck. Removal, attacking four star monsters, etc. The one thing of note that he did have was three Nimble Momonga's and three Dian Keto's. At one point in the second duel, he was up to 9700 life points before I started chipping away. Barrel Dragon really saved me. At one point I actually fused for Black Skull, reborned Barrel Dragon, missed the effect, and attacked his Cyber Jar. Ouch. Still, though, it went better than I expected. I managed to get Summoned Skull and Fish out and ended it. Life points were close though. I think in both duels I won with about 1700 points left. Average. No down time in between duels, it was time to go again, this time with Miguel, the kid who beat me two weeks ago with Gravekeeper's Servant. At last, the rematch. Semi-finals, by the way. I "got my revenge" so to speak. Even without Thunder Dragon for speed, using Share Pain with Sangan/Witch really works well, even without last will. I use Sangan to search for either Cyber Jar, Relinquished, Sonic Bird, or Fusion Subsitute, depending on my hand. Witch usually grabs Summoned Skull, of course, or Sonic Bird, or even, well, any card in your deck, usually, that's why those two cards are so great. Think your opponent is going to flip a MEB? Play Sangan. They can't solemn judgement on their turn if they attack, so you get the search effect no matter what. In anycase, I won this duel by pretty conventional means. The first one he pretty much defeated himself, as he used solemn judgement first on my cyber jar, then a second one on a magician of faith. I ended up killing him off with a reborned Barrel Dragon (I ended up discarding him three times as Ritual sacrifice throughout this tourney, and reborned him thrice, what luck!) Duel two was interesting. I kept trying to Heavy Storm his field, but he again killed himself off with Solemn Judgement (sporadic capitilization, i know) and also this time with Horn of Heaven. I had a Relinquished and Barrel Dragon on the field (this time by just a normal 2 tribute summon, miracle, I know), and he used Horn of Heaven on my Magician, killing of one of his two defense monsters. I attacked his second, it was a Mask of Darkness, which he used to eventually bring back Horn. Two turns later he was dead. FINAL ROUND! My brother made it through, so I felt that no matter what happened, we both would win, in a manner of speaking. He won, in the non-manner of speaking sense. He runs a Relinquished deck, well, a Relinquised beatdown deck, for lack of a better term, and for all you duelists out there who think Relinquished is "alright," yer crazy. Yes, Restrict is better, but aside from me, how many people have3 Poly? Yes, some, but not many. In anycase, my bro' truly had the HOTC with him. I pulled off a nasty combo on my turn after he attacked with Cyber Jar, but it was all for naught. In my hand I had CofHeart, Black Illusion, Poly, Summoned Skull, BDragon, and Relinq. Played Change of Heart, Poly'd for BSDragon (I had Versago on the field as a result of CyberJar), summoned Relinq., absorbed his monster, reborned BDragon...and got Mirror Force in the face. Ah well. I knew it was a possibility, but I took a gamble. There have been times for us all that we didn't attack and could have won but didn't...so I didn't hold back. He wins that duel in the next four turns. Second duel, similar deal. Fuse for BSDragon, summon barrel dragon, miss his effect, I suspect he has Cyber Jar, he does, it all goes down hill from there. Next turn he summons Relinq., change of heart my face down sonic bird, summons his own senju, and attacks for 4200. I had 3800. And that was it. All in all, I thought my deck worked pretty darned well. Tool around with PSV. It's awesome. My favorite series after Metal Raiders. I'll be ranting on posts' soon...look for it. Peace.
