I have since last week modified my deck, tweaking things here and there, removing and replacing cards. The location where the tournament took place was GetAGame.Com in New York. I was excited about this tournament since about 50 people were competing in the tournament whereas last week there were about 40.The tournament was designed so that the person who gets 2 out of 3 games wins. The winner of the tournament got a tournament pack and points on Upper Deck. Everyone who signed up for the tournament and paid the cheap five-dollar entrance fee got a tournament pack, so in a sense everyone came out winning. This deck was tweaked and molded all throughout the week so this time I had time to test it out and it worked great This time around I didn’t get a bye which mean I could have had the opportunity to victimize more than 5 people, but as you’ll see my spree was cut short. This is what my Deck Looked Like: Monsters – 21 3x Maha Vailo 3x Seven Colored Fish 3x Summoned Skull 2x Witch of the Black Forest 2x Man-Eating Bug 2x Magician of Faith 2x La Jinn 1x Wall Of Illusion 1x Cyber Jar 1x Sanga Of Thunder 1x Mask Of Darkness Magic/Trap Cards - 29 3x Malevolent Nuzzler 2x MegaMorph 2x Trap Hole 2x Seven Tools Of The Bandit 2x Heavy storm 2x Axe Of The Despair 2x Swords of Revealing Light 2x Tribute To The Doomed 1x Ultimate Offering 1x Spellbinding Circle 1x Robbin’ Gobblin 1x Waboku 1x Mirror Force 1x Magic Jammer 1x Pot Of Greed 1x Raigeki 1x Dark Hole 1x GraveKeeper’s Servant 1x Change Of Heart 1x Monster Reborn Round 1: Zealot (Me) Vs. John The kid I played in the first round was a few years younger than me from the looks of it. I could tell that he was a rookie since he had very few cards and the cards he had were all starter deck cards. I just played him and weenie rushed him using my witch of the black forest and 7 colored fish equipped with Molevolent Nuzzler to dominate him. He didn’t know all the rules to the game either, but I tought him a few things about how to use traps and things like that. He did his best, but he got manhandled two games in a row. I advance to round 2. Round 2: Zealot (Me) Vs. The older Flintstone Brother In this game I almost crapped my pants. I knew the kid I was playing since I had seen him in the store during the week. I knew that he bought about 2-3 boxes that week, but I still under estimated him. The duel started out with us shuffling our decks, cutting them, and drawing, like normal. I drew decent cards Swords of revealing light, Sanga of thunder, Monster Reborn, Summoned Skull, Tribute to the doomed. He chose to go first since he won the coin flip. He puts down a monster and 2 magic/trap cards. Its my turn I draw a Witch of the black forest, I play swords of revealing light, flipping his man eater causing it to kill itself. I play my witch of the black forest in defensive, and I put no magic cards down. He plays and puts another monster down, and put another card down in the magic/trap zone. I draw and pull 7 tools of the bandit. I put down my 7 tools, I tribute to the doomed his face down monster which was a sangan, I tribute my sanga of thunder sending it to the graveyard from my hand. I proceed to monster reborn the saga of the thunder, I tribute the witch of the black forest for my summoned skull, I pick out my maha vailo from my deck, and I proceed to what appears to me as a sever case whoopassitis but that little punk flipped his little waboku over which annoyed, but I used to7 tool regardless, and he plays another waboku. I loss 1000 points so I’m at 7000. His turn he draws and puts another monster down and a magic/trap card down. I draw on my turn and it’s a pot of greed, I draw 2 more cards, trap hole, and change of heart. I do nothing but attack his face down card with my summoned skull, and he plays another damn waboku. His turn, he draws and ends turn. At this point I loss the safty of my swords of revealing light, and this is when things begin to go downhill. I draw it’s a megamorph I equip it to my summoned skull and attack his face down monster. It’s an unhappy maiden ending my battle phase so I end my turn. His turn, he uses change of heart on my summoned, so he now has my 5000 attack point summoned skull, he raigekies my sanga of thunder monster reborns it, and now is when I sinking feeling in my stomach, that feeling of impending doom, he attacks me and…that’s that, my own tools used against me. In game 2 and 3, I redeem myself since I now know what to expect from this little bastard. I show him no mercy and dominate him crushing his chances of advancing. It was a bittersweet feeling since I got revenge but…I almost lost to a little kid who a week ago didn’t even know all the rules. I advance to round 3. Round 3: Zealot Vs. Chaz In this match I also received some unexpected surprises. This kid I played before in another tournament and I simply dominated his ass. So I go in feeling pretty confident, not thinking I have anything to worry about. The game starts off as normal he win the coin flip, he goes first. He puts down 3 magic/traps and a 7 colored fish face up in attack. My turn I play my maha vailo with axe of despair bringing it to 3050, and he trap holes it. His turn he plays another 7 colored fish and violates my life points. I pull pot of greed allowing me to draw an ultimate offering and a mirror force. I put them both down and a witch of the black forest in attack. I end turn. He attacks I mirror force, and flip ultimate offering. My turn, I tribute my witch for my summoned skull, and he trap holes him. I look for my Maha in my deck; I put down a waboku and end phase. He pulls another seven colored fish and attack, I waboku it. I draw swords of revealing light, play it and end turn. He puts down a monster face down defense. I draw raigeki, and I end turn. His turn he draws and ends turn. I pull another Maha. I end turn he draws and ends turn; I draw another swords of revealing light and play it. I draw axe of despair. And put down my maha in defense mode. He draws and puts a magic/trap. I go I draw a megamorph and I have now seen the light. I flip my maha and get ready to play raigeki and finish him…but..he…trap holes it. I end turn. He draws and plays La Jinn. My turn I draw 7 tools of the bandit put that down, play my maha, equip my axe of despair, equip the megamorph, bringing it to an pants soiling 7100 attack points, and things are sweet. I raigeki, and proceed to wife beat his life points. His turn he draws a cards puts it down in the monster/trap zone. My turn I try and finish him off, he mirror forces and scares the shizznit out of me, but I have a seven tools and hes dead. Next game he totally dominates me. He pulls his best cards and just dominates me with la Jinns and 7 colored fishes, he tribute to the dooms me a few times, and just totally blows me out of the water. I think I did about 900 life point damage to him and that it. I loss game two. Now I’m thinking… I should fear this kid. Next game we both pull good cards, but I pull the better of the cards. I pull all my counter traps, and my beatdown cards, and monster removal cards. I dominate him in the last game..but barely as he bring me down to 2000 life points. I barely survive the 3rd round but I do it. I advance to the 4th round. Round 4: Zealot Vs. Slow # 2 I should have known what to expect here. This kid is known as the luckiest kid on earth in the store. Last tournament he drew a Mechanical Chaser from his tournament pack. He trades it to the store own for a box of magic ruler (they call him SLOW for a reason), but in this box he pulls relinquished, toon blue eyes, axe of despair, snatch and steal, and a slew of other super rare and ultra rare cards. I think a box like this one was unprecedented. Regardless he came into this tournament ready to rumble. We are playing normally except for the fact that hes kicking my ass. I can’t touch this kid no matter what I do. Towards the end I pull a summoned skull already having megamorph and axe of despair in my hand. I go for it I use my ultimate offering bringing out a la Jinn and a 7000 attack summoned skull, I’m at 800 and hes at 8000, and I beat with one swift massive kick to the heart of his life points. It was poetry, so I’m feeling pretty good right now going into the next game. I won’t bother saying much here since it leads to my defeat. In the next game he dominates me like a little child. He brings out both his Barrel Dragon, and just abuses me with his effect. He totally man handles me two games in a row, and…that’s the end of me. He actually goes on to win the tournament and the Championship belt, …and my dignity. I lost to the guy who was ranked last. He went from loser to champion….There can be only one…and it was him that day. I give props to: The storeowner for running a better organized tournament The judges for knowing what they were doing and keeping everyone in order For all the kids playing amazingly, and giving me a run for my money The storeowner for the cheap 5-dollar entrance fee Slops to: Slow 2 for beating my ass and every other competitor Name Zealot Email: Elin_J10@Hotmail.com P.S.
