Dan’s deck was everywhere, although he able to keep me at bay for a while with a large assortment of defense monsters. I took the duel 2-0. Afterwards, I sat down with him to look through his deck and see what could be change and what could be thrown out. I gave him my two cents and he ran with it. He ended up winning his next 3 duels. Round 2: Me vs. Andrew (Deck Type: Beatdown/Power) This kids’ deck was focused more on Beatdown monsters. Neo, Battle Ox, La Jinn, etc. Both times it came down to me playing my Relinquished followed by Witch’s Apprentice. I took the Duel 2-0. Round 3: Me vs. Sean Duffy (Deck Type: Lord Of D.) Sean was my college roommate last semester and I got him hooked to the card game. I duel him on campus whenever I can so we both knew it would be a difficult duel. When we were sitting to begin, some high school kids roamed into the place and were looking at people’s deck and cards one after the other. I didn’t think about it much. Later, people were complaining that they couldn’t find their cards (mainly BEWD and Toon monsters) and we soon figured out it was the now long gone high school kids. Anyways, both matches went back and forth. One of us would get a Dark Hole when it was needed or a Mirror Force. I finally was able to build an army of three Witches along w/ a Cannon Soldier and La Jinn which was more then needed to clear his BEWD and Lord of D. and take the remaining LP. The second match I drew my Swords Of Light first turn and played them and after the three turns were up, I flipped Magician of Faith up to replay it then after those 3 turns, I pulled my other Swords Of Light. Umm….he never got a shot in that duel, but kept me at bay with traps and effects. Round 4: Me vs. Zack (Deck Type: Spellcaster/Defense) Zack was not happy when he heard he had to duel me. I sort of feel bad really. I pulled out some nasty Relinquished/Raigeki combos both rounds, destroying all his defenses and taking the duel 2-0. I was undefeated going into the semi-finals. Semi-Final Match: Me vs. Kyle (Deck Type: Fiend) Well, I face my younger brother in the semi-finals. I give him all my extra cards, including rares, which meant I knew what I was in for. After building up both our forces on the field, I pulled my raigeki, clearing his side and full-forced attacked him, the remainder of his LP taken out by Cannon Soldier’s effect. The second match saw me Change Of Heart his Summoned Skull on the second turn and attacking with Mystic Plasma Zone in plays along with two of my Dark Elves. Final Match: Me vs. Jenn (Deck: Umi-based deck) We countered many of the other person’s moves quite quickly. After changing the field from Umi to Mystic Plasma, my machine monsters tended quickly to her easy demise. The second round I took an early lead by change of hearting her Whiptail Crow and attacking and tributing it to Cannon Soldier’s effect. After 5 more minutes of dueling, I Mirror Forced away her monsters after which she forfeited. I got a $30 box of HeroClicks, a magazine, and a free pack of boosters. Man, I wish the store would get off its butt and make it official. They follow all the official ruling, but aren’t done anything to make themselves official. Kirk_Davis@umit.maine.edu
