This is the tournament that was held at Battle Zone in San Francisco.

1st Round: Beatdown Fever vs. Burner (16 participants left)

1st Match:

Well, this guy had a very annoying deck and this was the longest of any of my duels. My first had wasn’t that good, with 4 monsters and Giant Trunade in my hand.  He elected to go first, and he played one monster in defense mode and 2 cards in his m/t zone.  I drew a card and much to my surprise it was dark hole. I used Giant trunade to return all of his cards to his hand and used dark hole to get rid of his monster and played la jinn and attacked with it. The next turn he put the cards back down and played Chain Energy, which is really annoying. He also played burning land which makes you lose 500 hp every turn.  Last, he played Prohibition, filling up his m/t zone.  We took about 15 turns to finish this game because one of his face-down traps was gravity bind, so I couldn’t attack and slowly, burning land killed him.

2nd Match:

This one went a bit faster until he put down 2 chain energies. HP was at 8000 for me and 4650 for him.  He again put Burning Land and we waited a long time ( about 8 turns) because when he was down to 650 HP, I played magician of faith in attack mode and attacked him for 300, bringing his HP down to 350, and the next turn, burning land finished him off.  This was one of the longest duels I played in a long time and I have officially started being a burner deck hater because they take forever to kill.

RESULTS: Matches: 2

                   Wins: 2

                   Losses: 0

2nd Round: Beatdown vs. Gate Guardian (8 participants left)

1st Match:

He went first and played jirai gumo in attack mode, normally this would be a problem but I drew fissure so I got rid of him easily.  I then attacked with La Jinn which I summoned.  I also played one card in my m/t zone. He played a monster face-down and I used TttD and discarded Summoned Skull to kill his face-down Man-Eater.  I played 7 Colored Fish and attacked him for 3600 this time, which brought the Hp to 8000 for me and 2600 for him.  He played a card in his m/t zone and put a monster face-down.  Then, he used Monster Reborn but I flipped my face-down trap card, Imperial Order, and his Monster reborn was negated.  I discarded Imperial Order at the start of my turn because I did not want to pay for it.  My next turn, I drew Raigeki, what luck. I used Raigeki to get rid of his Face-down Magician of Faith and played Wall of Illusion in defense mode.  Then, I attacked with La Jinn and 7 colored fish, but he used Waboku.  Next turn, he played Dark hole and pissed me off.  I drew monster reborn and reborned my summoned skull and played Sangan in attack mode and killed his remaining 2600 hp.

2nd Match:

This match started off pretty badly for me, as he had 2 Jirai Gumos in attack mode and he kept attacking with them (I couldn’t draw a monster).  Any way, this match lasted for about 3 seconds and he killed me with the 2 Jirai Gumos. Notice, he has never played any of his pieces for Gate Guardian.

3rd Match:

This match again lasted a fairly long time (about 10 turns).  He played Jirai Gumo in attack mode and ended his turn.   I played Fissure on his face-up Jirai Gumo and then attacked with La Jinn to take 1800 of his Hp.  On his turn he used dark hole and played one card face-down.  My turn, and I placed 3 cards in my m/t zone and used Sangan to attack his face-down monster.  As I suspected, it was a man-eater bug, so my sangan died, and I searched for cannon soldier.  It was his turn and he played La Jinn in attack mode, I trap holed it using one of my cards in my m/t zone.  My turn, and I played 7 colored fish and attacked him.  My Hp:8000, his Hp: 4400.  On his turn he played a monster face down and played 1 card in his m/t zone.  I played cannon soldier in attack and attacked his face-down monster with la jinn.  It was magician of faith and he got back dark hole. I attacked with cannon soldier and then sacrificed la jinn and cannon soldier to do 2400 damage to him.  He was down to 2000.  On his turn he played jirai gumo and attacked me, I played waboku and  he flipped the coin and lost half of his life.  I then drew pot of greed.  I played it and drew witch of the black forest and monster reborn.  I reborned cannon soldier and played witch of the black forest.  Then I just sacrificed both of them to reduce his Hp to 0.

RESULTS: Matches: 3

                   Wins: 2

                   Losses: 1

3rd round: Beatdown vs. Beatdown (4 participants left, semi-finals)

1st Match:

This was the second longest duel of this tournament as we both had almost the same cards and we kept countering each other.  He played 1 monster face-down and 1 card in his m/t zone.  I played La jinn in attack mode and he trap holed it. I then played 2 cards in my m/t zone.  He played Goblin Attack Force in attack mode and attacked me.  I used waboku to prevent the damage and his GAF switched to defense mode.  I played wall of illusion in attack mode and attacked his GAF.  On his turn he played pot of greed and got 2 cards.  He played another GAF in attack mode and lay down 1 more card in his m/t zone.  He attacked me and I took 1300 damage.  His GAF went back to his hand and he only had his face-down card now.  My Hp: 6700 and his Hp: 8000.  My turn, I drew dark hole and played it.  I then played la jinn and attacked him for 1800. His turn, he played Mystical Space Typhoon from his field (the first card that he played face down was this).  He then plays a card face down.  I played 7 colored fish and attacked his face-down card. It was Cyber jar so we both took 5 cards.  He had 2 gearfreads, a harpies brother, a wall of illusion and a trap hole.  I had in my hand wall of illusion, 7 colored fish, witch of the black forest, raigeki and imperial order.  I played imperial order in my m/t zone and used raigeki to clear his field.  On his turn he played 1 card in his m/t zone and ended his turn.  I played cannon soldier and he trap holed it.  I then flipped over my witch and wall which I put down in defense mode after Cyber jars effect.  I attacked with 7 colored fish, wall and witch for a total of 3900.  My Hp: 6700, his Hp: 2300.  On his turn he drew a card and he told me to go.  I then attacked on my turn to win the game.

2nd Match:

This match was very boring, mostly because all I drew was magic cards and he had monsters, so I lost the match in about 3 minutes.  One of my worst matches in this tournament.

3rd Match:

This match was actually very similar to the first one except it ended a bit faster.  I went first and played man-eater in face-down defense.  On his turn he played 2 m/t in his zone and played a monster in defense mode.  On my turn I played Heavy Storm to clear his field.  Then I flipped man-eater to kill his face-down monster and played la jinn and attacked him for 2250.  I also played 2 cards in my m/t zone.  On his turn he played goblin attack force and attacked my man-eater.  I played mirror force and his GAF died.  I then sacrificed my man eater to bring out my summoned skull and attacked him for 4300 points.  My Hp: 8000, his Hp: 1450.  On his turn, he played raigeki to clear the field and then played a monster in defense mode.  I drew cannon soldier and I smiled at him congratulating him.  I played dark hole to clear the field and played cannon soldier.  I then attacked for 1400, leaving him with 50 hp. I then used cannon soldiers effect and sacrificed cannon soldier to deal 500 more damage to him.

RESULTS: Matches: 3

                   Wins: 2

                   Losses: 1

Final Round: Beatdown vs. Beatdown (2participants left)

1st Match:

He played a monster face-down and 1 card in his m/t zone.  On my turn, I played heavy storm and dark hole to clear the field.  I then used pot of greed and drew white magical hat.  I attacked with him and I chose which card he had to discard.  I was really lucky, because I chose Raigeki. Yes! On my next turn, I used TttD to get rid of his face-down monster and attacked again with white magical hat and la jinn.  I chose another card which he had to discard, and guess what card I chose? None other than JINZO!  My Hp: 8000, his Hp: 4200.  He played a monster face down and ended his turn.  I played cannon soldier and attacked his monster with la jinn.  It was Cyber Jar, damn!  We both took 5 cards and he had no monsters! I only had wall of illusion which I played in defense.  On his turn, he used dark hole and ended his turn.  I drew a card and it was monster reborn! I used it to reborn his jinzo and then attacked for 2400.  His hp was down to 1800.  On his turn, he played fissure and that sucked.  He then played la jinn in attack mode and attacked me.  I drew a card and it was none other then snatch steal.  I used this card and took his la jinn and attacked him.  I won!

2nd Match:

I went first and played a monster face down and played trap hole in my m/t zone.  He played change of heart and took my monster, then he sacrificed it for jinzo.  He attacked me and took 2400 of my hit points.  I then went and used pot of greed.  I drew raigeki and used it to get rid of his jinzo.  I then played a monster face-down.  His turn and he played Raigeki to kill my face-down magician of faith.  Then he played harpies brother and attacked me for 1800.  My Hp: 3800, his Hp: 8000.  I then went and didn’t draw a monster.  On his turn he played another harpies brother and attacked me for 3600. I was down to 200 hp.  When I drew my next card and saw that it was trap hole, I was pissed.  On his turn he killed me using his harpy brother.

3rd Match:

I played a monster face-down and 2 cards in my m/t zone.  It was his turn  and he played la jinn in attack mode.  I trap holed it and it was my turn.  I sacrificed my face-down card for summoned skull and I attacked him for 2500.  Next turn he didn’t draw anything, so he let me go, only putting one card in his m/t zone.  I played Witch of the Black Forest in attack mode and attacked him for 3600 this time.  My Hp: 8000, his Hp: 1900.  He drew a card and it was a monster.  He played it in defense mode and it was my turn.  I attacked it with summoned skull and it was a wall of illusion, so summoned skull was returned to my hand.  He then took 1100 damage from my witch of the black forest.  He played TttD and killed my witch.  Then he ended his turn.  I searched for cannon soldier for my witch and played it the next turn and then attacked for the game!
