Sonuis' Random Affliction Beatdown Deck Kurt Handley (Sonuis) L&L Bookstore (Held two stores over from.) Rancho San Diego, California at the Von's Shopping Center. Date: December 14th, 2002 6 Participants... (Yeah... you heard me, a whoppin' six) Ah, my first tournament report. Been a long time duelist, being brought to this game by CoTD'er (Randomly popping in and out) Melkor. I wonder where he is though. If not, this tournament wasn't Upperdeck Sanctioned, but was played by Upperdeck Rules... excluding World Standard Ban, and making it Double Elimination. This is the first tournament held, and I guess you could say I had a big advantage because well... I managed the tournament as well. Random Affliction Beatdown Deck (Merely Random due to Turtle/Soldier) Monsters (Total: 20) 3x La Jinn The Mystical Genie of the Lamp 1x Cannon Soldier 1x Man-Eater Bug 1x Wall of Illusion 1x Giant Soldier of Stone 2x Summoned Skull 1x Big Eye 1x Cyber Jar 1x Witch of the Black Forest 2x 7 Colored Fish 1x Catapult Turtle 2x Magician of Faith 1x Harpie's Brother 2x Goblin Attack Force Magic (Total: 10) 1x Axe of Despair 1x Heavy Storm 1x Swords of Revealing Light 1x Raigeki 1x Last Will 1x Dark Hole 1x Pot of Greed 1x Monster Reborn 1x Card Destruction 1x Snatch Steal 1x Change of Heart Traps (Total: 10) 3x Trap Hole 1x Call of the Haunted 1x Imperial Order 1x Magic Drain 1x Mirror Force 1x Magic Jammer 1x Waboku Side Deck (Total: 0) N/A Entry Fee: $1 (Yeah, $1. It will be higher when I can think of more suitable prizes... and when we get TP2 Boosters and Approval.) When I started this tournament, I delayed it for two hours to wait for people, and to my discovery, most of the people I told at school floozied out. Oh well, they promised that nextweek (Saturday, December 21st), they would make it. So, they're pardoned... for now. Round 1 - # of Participants left: Six Winner's Bracket: Kurt, Matt, Josh, Nate, Clayton, Dylan Loser's Bracket: None Sonuis vs. Clayton Duel #1: Game 1/3 - Win, 7250 > 0 Sonuis: 1 Clayton: 0 In this tournament were a lot of "New" players, or players who didn't really know how to work a good deck. Plus, in a real tournament, he'd probably never ever get the chance to play, considering his brother, Dylan, forgot his deck. I was going to allow them to play their games seperately with the same deck, however, due to time restraints (This building was rented out, and electricity was cut), I had to cut his deck in half, and split it to the brothers. I beat him fast, with a couple of slap-action attacks with La Jinn, and Summoned Skull. The kid was unfamiliar with all of the in-depth rulings (which I have conveniently printed out for everyone who plays) of cards, which I hate pulling up in the middle of a match. I hope he comes back though. Duel #1: 2/3 - Win, 8000 > 7200 This game was cut short, as his Parent needed to take him and Dylan home. Dylan had already lost to a person named Nate, and was waiting eagerly. I was sorry that they had to leave, and that I guess I treated him rudely in the middle of the game. I hope the two come back, I don't want to disappoint anybody. Winners of other games: Nate beat Dylan, Matt beat Josh. Round #2 Remaining Participants: 4 (Clayton and Dylan leaving) Winner's Bracket: 3; Kurt, Nate, Matt (Nate received Bye) Loser's Bracket: 1; Josh (Received Bye) Duel #2: 1/3 - Win, 6800 > 0 Sonuis vs. Matt My unique style of tournaments (well, not too unique) gave random pairings. So, yeah, no evils of brackets, and more confusion. I like it a lot. Anyway, I played Matt, who is the younger brother of a person who I know at school (Being Josh), played okay. However, like Clayton, Dylan, and Josh's deck, he too had a tower deck. Or something that stacked away in height, making it impossible for any "Normal" deck to Deck-Out. This game went by moderately slow, with back and forward punches of Monsters, but then Raigeki came into play, and well, he couldn't get a Monster to save his life. Duel #2: 2/3 - Win, 8000 > 0 All I can say is this: I ate him alive. The gigantic deck was his big downfall, being unable to defend, or play all of the useful things. Though... Imperial Order played one heck of a roll at this part. Oh, for those who don't know, I make sure we use better rulings, mainly those translated and brought out to the public by Ed Hrzic (...or Edo). I do contain both versions of rulings. Round #3 Remaining Participants: 4 (Clayton and Dylan leaving) Winner's Bracket: 2; Kurt & Nate Loser's Bracket: 2; Josh & Matt Nate was the person who I worried most about. His deck was much smalller than any of the decks I saw today, and it had casings. Which points out to me that he knows what he's at least doing. Oh, and he plays Magic. Double Worry. Duel #3: 1/3 - Win, 5800 > 0 He got some attacks in, and an Ookazi. Good job by him, but a fast game nonetheless. Duel #3: 2/3 - Win, 8000 > 0 The following cards should be declared, "Evil": Change of Heart; Snatch Steal. Cyber Jar made it possible to use those two in combination for a pummeling upset. He did a good job though, like all other participants. Oh, I'll also remind myself to never let people have a 30 minute break. Or at least I should in-state a time limit of no arrival, disqualification/automatic loss. Round #4 Remaining Participants: 3 (Josh Eliminated by loss) Winner's Bracket: 1; Kurt (Bye) Loser's Bracket: 2; Matt & Nate I took my bye freely, and relaxed, watching a game or two of Magic (Those cards could easily be called, "Gymnists" since they do so many quarter turns. Silly Untap/Tap; why must you occur so frequently?) Nate won his Match against Matt, and both Josh & Matt had to leave. Final Round - Round #5 Remaining Participants: 2 (Matt Eliminated by loss) Winner's Bracket: 1; Kurt Loser's Bracket: 1; Nate Duel #4: 1/3 - Win, 3800 > 0 Mmmph, the cards which should be declared, "Evil" return, only Change of Heart for him too. Summoned Skull had a feeling change. Silly Axe of Despair. Nate's mom came in, and she had to disappoint both Nate and Me, that they had to leave. I congratulated Nick on his wonderful efforts, and told him about next week's tournament/"Fun Time". He said he'd be back, with his Mom Confirming it... if I recall correctly. I won. Undefeated. Ugh, that didn't feel good at all. Results 1st Place - Kurt Handley (Sonuis) 2nd Place - Nate ? 3rd Place - Matt ? 4th Place - Josh ? 5th/6th Place - Clayton & Dylan ?
