Best 2 overall rankings face in finals. Round 1: Me vs. Ryan The first match of the day was probably the most unfair. Here I was, a 19 yr old college student, looking down at my 10 yr old opponent. The older brother apparently had given him all the “crappy” cards he did want and that was all his deck was made out of (a lot of 1500/1200 monsters. A few effects here and there). Both games I quickly got out my Summoned Skull and 7 Colored Fish and quickly took this duel 2-0. Afterwards, however, I went through all my extra cards (I brought all my cards from home) and ended up giving him 15 cards (side deck) including a Big Eye, Prevent Rat and an Unhappy Maiden. Round 2: Me vs. Andrew This duel proved to be more difficult as I was defeated the first game by a well-played and timed Mirror Force in combo with a Kazejin. An interesting strategy if your opponent can’t seem to draw any monster removal effect/magic cards. The last 2 duels I was lucky enough to de-trap his Mirror Force with one of my Trap Masters and gave him no grounds to summon Kazejin again and ended taking the duel 2-1 Round 3: Me vs. Kyle (My Younger Brother) This made me really proud since my younger brother, learning disability and all, proved to be my most difficult challenge. I knew what cards he had in his deck mainly because I helped get him many of the harder-to-find cards, (raigeki, pot of greed, etc). The first game he managed to lower my life points to 200 and him with 8000 through a timely Card Destruction, Just Desserts and Raigeki. Following this (and I’m sorry to say this) I truly experienced the Heart Of The Cards. I pulled a Pot Of Greed and with this pulled my Swords Of Revealing Light and Time Wizard and he had four monsters on the field. I played my Time Wizard and flipped Heads, wiping out his monsters. He then said he had no monsters to play. I drew my Summoned Skull and played it along with my Swords to be safe. He continued not being able to play anything thanks to the Dragon Capture Jar I had activated and th eabundance of dragons in his hand and I wiped out his life points. He then beat me the next round do to me drawing AL L my high level monsters at the start and him Reborning my Time Wizard, wiping me out. I then beat him in the last round thanks to a combo Raigeki and Robbin’ Goblin. Round 4: Me vs. Josh Josh proved to be pretty good at the game, giving me a run for my money first round. My Seven Tools saved me from a Trap Hole on my Barrel Dragon which proceeded to win my the first round. Second round goes pretty much the same until he tributes to monsters for something. I worry. “A Barrel Dragon? Tri-Horn? BEWD?”. Garnecia Elefantis!…………….your kidding, right? After getting rid of this barely-better-then-Gaia card, I took the rest of the game w/La Jinn and 7 colored. Before The Finals I had been talking with this one kid and he offered me a trade. I had a (extra) Gaia The Dragon Champion and he was willing to trade me that for his Mirror Force. I jumped at it with vigor and gave him my my GTDC….not the 1st Edition one I have though, just the Unlimited one….even though the Mirror Force was 1st Edition. *Shrug* Oh well. I switched it w/ my Reinforcements card since there was no rule against it (this was their first yugioh tournament, so they were still working out the kinks). Finals: Me vs. Kyle (again) Well, here we go again. As if I don’t duel him enough at home. Not once during our three games did I once pull my Mirror Force dang it. I took the first game by playing a combo of Shield and Sword and two Mystical Elves w/ his Jurai Gumo in attack mode(2200/100). The second round went to him when we both had pretty full fields and he pulled his Raigeki. The Aqua Madoor would have been able to guard against all the level 4 monsters except he then pulled out his Sword Of Deep Seated and applied it to his Ryu-Kishin Powered. The last game was the longest with me thankfully pulling out my Heavy Storm, then playing a Trap Hole and Seven Tools down while summoning my BEWD. A couple rounds with that bad boy saved me. Well, that’s all from the very first YuGiOh tourney in Central Maine from the first champ in Central Maine. I return with continuing coverage as they are planning tourneys every month. See ya.
