Silver's Corner

Luck as an Excuse
*NOTE* This is an almost rant, not an almost article.

<--! Begin Content !-->         *skips the fancy intro for once* Luck is a factor in every TCG. It exists in everyday life and nobody can escape it. However, in a strategic game like Yu-Gi-Oh! or Magic: The Gathering (more so than Yu-Gi-Oh, but not the point) luck should NEVER be used as a constant excuse. This shows a lack of real skill in general and a bad playing style. There are instances when your opponent pulls 4 pre-negators on you when this doesn't apply, but for the most part its your playing style.
A good player takes time to make their moves and plays conservatively. A good player can make good out of any situation. A good player never lets an ego get in the way of their playing ability. A good player doesn't exist. Even with that said we should still play to the best of our abilities. For some big-shots losing is like the end of the world. Every loss is a learning experience. Making excuses stops you from actually doing anything to help yourself. If you keep on losing with the same deck and continue to blame Lady Luck, its you and your deck obviously.
Another thing I find interesting is that the people whine about how Chaos makes the game pure luck actually play Chaos or a slight variation on it. Playing Cookie-Cutters or copying decks adds dramatically to the luck factor. Why? You are playing the same decks more or less so all it comes down to is how well you play and what you draw. I'm not saying burn your Chaos- continue to play with them if it fits you. Just don't complain if you lose.
Now that you've stopped using luck as an excuse where do you go from there? You research your deck, look over your ratios, and consider new cards. There's always a way to win that doesn't involve luck. <--! End Content !-->

You have 4 choices for the next article: Economics, Nationals/Worlds, Next Year's Regionals, or an Overview of AST. If you e-mail me, put that at the top or bottom.
