Earth Toolbox
August 29, 2006

New list brought a lot of confusions to duelists. Chaos is gone? What are we going to do? What will the new cookie-cutter be? Can actual theme deck win? Believe in equality or not, some themes are bound to be more supported than others. Warrior is one. Machine is another. Compared to Dark, Light lacks larger pool of cards to choose from. Want to find the new cookie-cutter? Easy. Find the theme with the most supports and flexibility. Chaos is gone. Warrior “toolbox” is alive. In face, Exiled Force has been moved from limited to semi-limited area. Guess what? Exiled Force is Earth Warrior. Hey! I know! How does Earth toolbox sound to you?

Of all searchers, Giant Rat has the highest DEF stat. Exactly 1450. Though they share same 1400 ATK, having a high DEF is both advantageous and disadvantageous. Because you have to send it to the graveyard as a result of battle, higher DEF means, and especially 1450, which is JUST above 1400, its harder to be destroyed. Sometimes, it works in your favor. Sometimes not. Still, you have to admit Giant Rat is also awesome. First, we’ll start with cards that you can’t just not have.

Monsters:

1 Sangan

3 Giant Rat

1 Magician of Faith

1 Jinzo

2 Exiled Force.

1 Spirit Reaper

1 Breaker the Magical Warrior

Spells:

1 Heavy Storm

1 Mystical Typhoon

1 Nobleman of Crossout

1 Premature Burial

1 Book of Moon

1 Graceful Charity

Traps:

1 Ring of Destruction

1 Torrential Tribute

1 Call of the Haunted

1 Mirror Force

Let’s look at Earth monster with effects that Giant Rat can search out, and those that won’t hurt you for having them in your hand through drawing (MAN I LOVE YVD PROGRAM). Injection Fairy Lily will be default. It’s restricted! Because it’s soooooooooooo lovely. Nimble Momonga will also be good and replenish your LP to help out the cute nurse. To make sure Momonga don’t get crossed out, and to counter many other cards that opponent may have, Ceasefire is also nice. With 6 beasts already, I think we should take that root. 2 or 3 Enraged Battle Oxen would be cool. Hey, they work well with Creature Swap! Scapegoat summons 4 beasts and also works well with Creature Swap. Furthermore, Enemy Controller is “combolicious” as they say. It screws up opposing Creature Swap if you pick the right target at the activation of the quick-play. Treeborn Frog works well with both spells. Pot of Avarice is just broken with searchers. Mystic Swordsman LV2 is another excellent card for face-down monsters. We’ll add just 1. How does that look now?

Monsters: 17

1 Sangan

3 Giant Rat

1 Magician of Faith

1 Jinzo

2 Exiled Force.

1 Spirit Reaper

3 Nimble Momonga

1 Injection Fairy Lily

1 Mystic Swordsman LV2

2 Enraged Battle Ox

1 Breaker the Magical Warrior

1 Treeborn Frog

Spells: 11

1 Heavy Storm

1 Mystical Typhoon

1 Nobleman of Crossout

1 Premature Burial

1 Book of Moon

1 Scapegoat

2 Creature Swap

1 Graceful Charity

1 Confiscation

1 Pot of Avarice

1 Enemy Controller

Traps: 5

1 Ring of Destruction

1 Torrential Tribute

1 Call of the Haunted

1 Mirror Force

1 Ceasefire

Because Enraged Battle Ox’s effect requires a lot of beating and attacking, you need to have more removal. 3 Dust Tornadoes would be overkill, and 2 would be nice, being chainable. That will take care of any Royal Decrees that might negate traps. Destroy Scapegoat in the End Phase, bring out Treeborn Frog in Standby Phase and…combos! Berserk Gorillas are impressive attackers, but Enemy Controller immediately kills it. With Berserk Goriillas and Enraged Battle Oxen,  sometimes you need extra boost to destroy Cyber Dragon and Jinzo. Rush Recklessly fits the theme perfectly. It has a picture of scary boar. Last Will is not-so-cool for your opponent when used with Exiled Force. Use Exiled, then use Last Will to blow up another one.

Total: 41

Since most monsters that are run usually don’t go over 2400 ATK, Rush Recklessly will be as good as Sakuretsu Armor or Widespread Ruin. When Cyber Dragon attacks Giant Rat, they both will be destroyed, and it will be technically 1 for 1. Also, when Zaborg attacks Berserk Gorilla or Enraged Battle Ox, the monarch won’t survive. Exiled Forces will take care of any threatening face-downs along with Mystic Swordsman LV2. If you don’t have those at the moment, you can just run over the face-down with Enraged Battle Ox. Giant Rat and Nimble Momonga will preserve the field and your LP, while Pot of Avarice backs them up. Also, if you know opponent is running multiple, even single, Enemy Controller, be extremely careful, as the trade may not go in your favor. Ceasefire will make sure you take something valuable with it. Just watch out for Asura Priest. Don’t be so extreme with Injection Fairy Lily, otherwise opposing Ring or Ceasefire will end the game quickly. If needed, reuse Exiled Force with Premature Burial and Call of the Haunted. Most broken play would be use Exiled twice with Last Will.

If you feel that you need extra back-up, use Sakuretsu Armor/Widespread Ruin instead of 1 Dust Tornado, and you may also add Smashing Ground. Enemy Controller will destroy Cyber Dragon with Enraged Battle Ox/Berserk Gorilla. Furthermore, remember that Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys is also a Winged Beast, which would benefit from Enraged Battle Ox’s ability.
