Yugiman's Thoughts
Single Card Review: Dark Coffin
October 30, 2007

Sorry to all the Yugifans out there that were waiting patiently for my next articles. The past year has been pretty crazy and since my schooling is closing to a near, I found it good to re-start up my section. The cards that I ussually review have had some sort of effect on the metagame and this card wont be any different. I predicted right with Machine Duplication(actually used it before Peddle introduced the combo) and Trap Dustshoot, so perhaps this trend will keep going.

Todays review is on Dark Coffin.This card was originally from the PGD set and is a Trap card. Whats the effect you ask? Here's the exact text;

Dark Coffin
Trap Card
When this f/d card is destroyed and sent to the graveyard, your opponent chooses and executes 1 of the following effects:
- Discard 1 random card from their hand.
- Select 1 monster on their field and destroy it.

Pretty nifty card considering the metagame we are in right now. With s/t destruction very high, you can expect this card to be destroyed easily. We have tons of stuff that destroys s/t and getting the effect off would be so simple and could provide great advantage. Knocking out a Storm from their hand or a CoSR is a vital part of what you need to do. Getting them to choose what monster they need to keep is a tough situation sometimes. This card can even be activated if you set it that turn and they destroyed it via Dust, Typhoon. Also, if they dont have any monsters on the field, they HAVE to choose the other effect and vise versa.

This card can prove to somewhat bad too. Alot of people and their mothers are running PCM which has Disc Commander in it. They might get lucky and hit it into the g/y. They might opt to destroy a f/d card which could be Sangan, Trooper or Disc and that could provide them more advantage. Its basically all about timing though. If you have the cards to spare and arent worrying about the above, then just set and wait for them to fall into the trap. This card should probably go into your side-deck though, so try and test it out. Perhaps make a Sacred Phoenix deck and add these in, as they might be worthy.

Anyways, any feedback can be sent to supersaiyanjosh@hotmail.com. Any idea's for more reviews will be appreciated and glad to be back.
