YamiBakuraFan's Little Shop of Horrors
The Threat of “Mist”
January 19, 2006

Today I will be continuing with last weeks look into newly released Yu-Gi-Oh! R promo cards in Japan. I’ll be looking into two of Willa Mettes Dragonewt combo cards as well as an interesting magic card called Mist Body. After that I will combine these three cards as well as a card I looked at last time called “White Horns Dragon” into a fun character deck for Willa Mette and dragon fans alike.

PP9-JP008
Lancer Dragonewt
Earth main-type
Dragon sub-type
Level 4
1500/1800
When this monster attacks a monster in defense mode, and the attack strength is higher than the defense strength of that monster, inflict battle damage to opponent equal to the difference.

Lancer Dragonewt is the first card I’ll be looking into today, he is an Earth main type monster with less than 1500 attack so he can be searched to the field via. Giant Rat or into your hand with Critter (Sangan). Having a solid 1800 defense makes him a good card to go on the defensive with as well as making it Tsukuyomi proof. Since he’s a Dragon he can fit right into a Dragon based deck or a deck that uses Earth monsters because of his main-type and combos with Giant Rat and Masked Dragon. Familiar dragon support like Stamping Destruction can work in conjunction with him as, he already has trample so there’s no real need for Dragon’s Rage, the only other Dragon support card of note.

His effect is the basic trample effect of other cards like Spear Dragon and such. Having 1500 attack can kind of hinder his trampling abilities since he can only hit the weaker cards and still won’t inflict much damage through the difference. He still has higher attack when trampling then Igzarion Universe (Exarion Universe) but his attack doesn’t go up to 1800 like Iggy making him a target to be easily destroyed in battle during the turn after he’s summoned. If you can protect him and make use of his trampling, he shouldn’t be a bad card to add into a Dragon deck.

Of course Spear Dragon is superior with its 1900 attack, but Spear Dragon will almost always get destroyed next turn, while if Lancer can be protected by its 1800 defense it may last longer. This card is strong when combo’d with Book of Moon or Tsukuyomi, and can work well with a card like Labyrinth of Nightmare that will put it into defense after attacking. I would only use one of these cards in a basic dragon deck for a tech. but with Spear Dragon being obviously superior it really needs a specific deck idea to work.

PP9-JP009
Axe Dragonewt
Wind main-type
Dragon sub-type
Level 4
2000/1200
When this card attacks, switch it into defense position at the end of the damage step.

Axe Dragonewt is another Dragon support card, it will work with Stamping Destruction and with a hefty 2000 attack can be quite a nightmare for the opponent if you have a face up Dragon’s Rage on the field to give it trample ability. Axe Dragonewt is a Wind monster as well, so it can add into Wind beatdown along with Spear Dragon (who has a similar position change effect) and Newt (Slate Warrior). Axe Dragonewt is also a good addition to any Dragon deck, with 2000 attack it can be a good beatstick and can stand up to some of the smaller monsters running around nowadays.

Axe Dragonewts 1200 defense will most likely get it blasted after the attack, but with its synergy with Skill Drain a player can make it into a solid 2000 attacker if needed. Just like Lancer Dragonewt this card was given the effect of a watered down Spear Dragon. Spear Dragon could trample so it had an advantage over Axe Dragonewt, there both going to get killed without protection, but at least Spear Dragon could trample to give some extra damage.

On the plus side this card can feed off of Wind cards like Wind Spiritual Art and can be removed from the cemetery for Garuda the Wind Spirit or Silpheed. This card can bring up the power of a dragon deck considerably because dragons lacked a good amount of solid beat down monsters for their particular type. Skill Drain and a possible spot filler in a position change deck can make Axe Dragonewt a favorite card for many different players.

PP9-JP010
Mist Body
Magic - Equipment
When this card is equipped, the equipped monster cannot be destroyed as result of battle (Damage calculations are applied normally.)

Mist Body is the last of Willa Mettes cards that I’ll be looking into today. This card is interesting because it plays the part of a being an upgraded version of an older card with a similar effect called Heart of Clear Water. Any monster equipped with this card cannot be destroyed in battle. The ability to be equipped on any monster, no matter the attack makes it better then Heart of Clear Water. This card can be a great way to protect vital combo pieces or monsters you want to keep around for a bit more torment.

Mist Body is an equip magic card which gives it some support in Iron Blacksmith Kotetsu and Fairy of the Spring. This can make Mist Body an easy card to search and re-use. Saint Magician (Magician of Faith) is another way to get this card back into your hand if destroyed. The monster equipped with Mist Body will still fall prey to annoyances like traps and the usual one for one card trades that make many cards unplayable in the metagame, but Mist Body will keep a monster alive against overpowered cards like Cyber Dragons.

This card has a few predominant combos that can be used with it. Equip Mist Body to your position changers like Giant Orc and Goblin Strike Team (Goblin Attack Force) so they are protected even while they are stuck in defense position. This card can keep a combo card like Magic Canceller (Spell Canceller) with weaker attack points from being destroyed so it can use its effect to the fullest. Vampire Lord can be a great choice for Mist Body, now it cannot be destroyed in battle and if destroyed by an effect it will simply respawn next turn! My personal favorites would be equipping this card to something like Hyper Hammerhead. Now you have a monster that can suicide to bounce monsters and cannot be destroyed itself!

The Willa Mette Deck

Willa Mette was an enthusiast of Seto Kaiba and played a similar dragon based beat down deck as the former champion. Willas main combos involved the Dragonewts and Mist Body as well as his trump card: The mighty White Horns Dragon! (reviewed in my last article). I plan to combine all of these cards as well as some other familiar dragon support cards to make an interesting and semi competitive dragon deck.

Willas deck involves lots of Magic and Trap removal which will clear the field for his dragonic beatdown and fill the opponents cemetery to the brim with lost magic and traps that your White Horns Dragon can feed on to power itself up to the max! Mist Bodies protect Spear Dragons and Dragonewts from being destroyed to allow their presence linger for awhile. This deck should work fairly well to keep your opponent on the run!

That’s all for today!

See you next time.
