YamiBakuraFan's Little Shop of Horrors
A Symphony of the Night

October 10, 2005

Hello again everyone, This morning I felt like a zombie just trying to get out of bed, so I decided to look into some interesting undead cards released in the Japanese Limited Edition 7 pack and Premium Pack 8. These are the vampire cards used by Tilla Mook, one of the Card Professors in the Yu-Gi-Oh! R manga currently running in V-Jump magazine. Vampires have always been a favorite fan-themed deck in the OCG since Vampire Lord was first released in the Kaiba Structure deck volume 1. With some new support cards a fun deck built around a vampire theme can be even more enjoyable to play.

First I’ll be looking at Curse of Vampire, an interesting card that can compliment Vampire Lord in many undead based decks.

Curse of Vampire
Level 6
Dark main-type
Undead sub-type
2000 / 800
When this card is destroyed as a result of battle, you may pay 500 life points. If you do this card is special summoned this card to your side of the field during your next standby phase. When this card is summoned in this way, increase its attack by 500 points.

Like Vampire Lord, Curse of Vampire is a 2000 attack Dark/Undead monster with a recursion effect. But Curse of Vampire is a lot different than Vampire lord in many ways. First is the fact that Curse has 800 defense while Vampire Lord has 1500. This makes Curse searchable by Goblin Zombie, a very underrated Undead searcher. Goblin Zombie may not be as good as just popping it directly to the field with a Pyrimid Turtle, but with Call of the Mummy on the field it can be an instant summon anyway. Level 6 means it’s a one sacrifice monster, but with level 6 it can morph into a different line up of monster than Vampire Lord via Sudden Mutation.

The other main difference that Curse has to Vampire Lord is that its recursion effect is a lot different than his. While Vampire Lord gets its effect when destroyed by card effects like Reactive Armor, Tidal Wave, etc; Curse gets his effect when being destroyed in battle. This will make him weak against the cards that would not truly destroy Vampire Lord. However, while Vampire Lord is easy prey for cards like Cyber Dragon and Psycho Shocker, Curse will be special summoned back to the field when destroyed by them.

Instead of Vampire Lords deck depletion effect Curse came armed with a whole new power. When special summoned back from being destroyed in battle at the cost of a small 500 life points, you get to increase its attack by 500 points! This increase will remain on his as long as he’s on the field but it doesn’t stack. If Curse is destroyed again with 2500 attack and you special summon it, it will still have 2500 attack and not increase to 3000.

Overall Curse is an okay card. With Vampire Lord unrestricted though I could see a Vampire deck better making use of two to three Vampire Lords rather then adding in a Curse or two. But for fans of Tilla Mook and Vampires themselves this is a definite card for you. My only worry is that it will run into the removal that wouldn’t destroy the other vampire more often than the monsters that would. The art is good and it’s a cool concept though. I’d run it over Dragon Bone Ogre in an instant!

Blood Sucker
Dark main-type
Undead sub-type
1300 /1500
When this card inflicts battle damage to your opponent’s life points, your opponent must send the top card of his or her deck into the cemetery.

Blood Sucker is yet another Vampire card used by Tilla Mook in Yu-Gi-Oh! R.  Unlike Curse of Vampire I’m not really fond of this card. A 1500 defense gives it an easy search by Pyrimid Turtle but not Goblin Zombie. Critter and Killer Tomato can also pull it from the deck with its somewhat low attack points. This is Blood Suckers main weakness, it has very low attack and its defense is not that great either. Blood Suckers ability to deplete the opponents deck fits in with the idea many of the other Vampire monsters are running, but compared to them he’s just not as good.

The first problem I see is that he is inferior in all ways to Goblin Zombie. Goblin is an 1100 which is weaker than Blood Sucker but with Goblins search ability he’s more useful. Unless you’re getting a direct attack on the opponent or killing a weak flipped up monster like Metamol Pot or Saint Magician, your not going to kill any monsters with this card. If you can get in a direct attack with this card it will most likely be dead by next turn.

Blood Sucker just leaves something to be desired. In a deck that is completely Vampire themed I could see it being used, but never competitively, we have Goblin Zombie for that. I even find Vampire Lady to be a better card in fun vampire decks than this card. It really doesn’t even have the look of a vampire, more of a bat or a small demon than anything.

Coercive Demonic Eyes
Magic
Select an undead monster with an attack of 2000 or less on your side of the field.  During this turn the monster may attack your opponent’s life points directly.

The final card I’ll be looking into today is an interesting undead support card. Demonic eyes lets an undead surpass and opponents monster line up to hit them directly for one turn. You can only use this on a monster with 2000 or less attack so undead monsters like Vampire Lord and Curse of Vampire are perfect targets for it. I’d say this card was designed as a way to smack your opponents quick and hard, and it gets around big monsters like Cyber Dragon and Psycho Shocker. This also gives weaker undead monsters a chance to pull off there in battle activated effects.

Goblin Zombie, Blood Sucker, Vampire Lady, they all can have a field day with this guy. Attacking your opponent directly despite there lack of incredible attack points and pulling off there deck depletion effects as well. Vampire Lord would be my choice for this card, he can get off the effect and hit for a hefty 2000 while not worrying about my opponent stopping it and destroying him in the process because he will simply return on the next turn.

The only weakness this card has is that it is reliant on certain situations. It’s a bad top deck if you have no undead monsters on your field and you opponent can somehow stop the attack with a magic or trap card thus you losing advantage in the hand and possibly the field for nothing. Situation, yes, but still an amazing card and another add in to undead and Vampire based deck lineups all around.

Now it’s time for a deck! Today I’m going for a Vampire theme rather than a straight out undead deck. I think these cards would be fun support to add to it. The main idea will be getting out Vampire Lord or Curse of Vampire and defeating your opponent while depleting there deck with the vampires effects. This is a deck built for fun semi- competitive play I don’t expect it to be a good idea for a big tournament.
