Feathered Fiend!
June 5, 2007

Team Legacy, representing the very warm state of Arizona, present to the dueling world Chris Michelis and Alex Aldemant.  These two guys have put together an OTK scourge deck.  As mentioned numerous times, I think these new monsters are nothing but a fad.  They are like the recursion of the yo-yo, pet rocks, and the like.  Everyone still remembers how awesome the chaos format was (if you had a chaos monster before your opponent).  As such, everyone wants to relive the almighty and bestowing experience of demolishing an opponent who was up 10 cards of advantage, only to fail in obtaining victory do to a lucky top deck.  This will appeal to all of us on some level.  I find such monsters intriguing for that very reason, much as I found yo-yowing hip until I came into contact with a game-boy.  The issue at hand is that these monsters require four, TYPE SPECIFIC, remove from play fodder in order to be summoned.  Had the requirement been dark and light only I'd be out selling myself for a play set.  But 3 dark fiend and 1 light fairy (vice-verse) is the epiphany of a theme requiring an entire deck to function properly.  Thus, these two dueling studs have decided to shrug off the ignorant remarks I have made to show off what a little bit of creativity can do.  With this in mind I present to you all...

Feathered Fiend!

Monster (35)
3 sky scourge enrise
3 sky scourge norleras
3 shinning angel
3 nova summoner
3 gellenduo
2 magestic mech - ohka
3 giant germ
3 newdoria
3 snipe hunter
1 sangan
1 night assailant
3 magical merchant
1 morphing jar 1
3x Theban Nightmare

Spell (5)
3 feather of the phoenix
1 card destruction
1 dimension fusion

As mentioned in some of Pojo's very own COTD reviews, this deck functions as a result of getting the required tribute material in the graveyard, using Feather of the Phoenix to place Dimension Fusion on the top of the deck, blow up the world via Scourge effect, draw into Dimension Fusion, and pay 2000 LP for game.  I must say that I have yet to play this deck in any tournament as a result of not having all the required cards/and no incentive to actually get them.  But upon seeing this I built a deck out of proxies and had a go at it.  One of the major issues I see with this build is reliability.  As mentioned in the email sent to me, the deck usually wins round one only to be beaten by side decked Banisher of the Radiance and the like.  Just looking at this deck makes me quiver with both fear and anticipation.  For starters, it can win in an explosive combo.  But the entire deck is built around one card.  Much like Demise, the key to beating it is to remove the win condition.  D.D. Crow, Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer, etc. all force its player in a severely crippling position.  Thus I feel the best way to improve upon this to try an incorporate three things whenever building such a deck.

1) Utilize Card Trooper as an additional way to fill up the graveyard.

2) Monster Gate and Reasoning both grant players a quick way to thin their decks, fill up their graveyards, and summon some powerful monsters such as the Majestic Mech's.

3) Archfiend Soldier has been part of many decks I've taken to the top 8.  This deck is almost screaming for him.  He is both a Fiend and Dark, not to mention his huge 1900 attack points almost ensures Banisher of the Radiance will be off the field.

I advise all of my readers to look over this deck, think about some of the things I've talked about, and more importantly practice said ideas.  The only way to actually accomplish anything is to utilize some form of action.  If you want to play this theme it will require both practice and skill, as well as some creativity.
