DESTINY DRAGON
Dec 13, 2007

Relationships are a lot of give and take.  To be an efficient spouse one must be capable of listening as well as explaining their position.  Thus communication is the key to making something work.  This is not unique to dating, all aspects of human society function off this theory.  If we have an idea, a worry, or are expressing an emotion the only way to rationalize and materialize it is by efficient communication.  Without communication a thought is simply a thought, communication is the way to make it a reality.  With this in mind I am tired of reading peoples opinion on Trade-In.  I am tired of surfing forums to find different people saying the same thing.  It is time we stop talking about how great this card is, but then ignoring it.  It is time we begin to rationalize this cards application and materialize it in some form.

I hate myself so much right now due to this obsession I have with Light and Darkness Dragon.  I just can't get this monster out of my head.  I have been thinking about the best way to beat it, the best way to play it, the coolest way to summon it.  I even find myself physically attracted to it, however strange that sounds.  The point is, this dragon is preoccupying a lot of my thoughts right now.  Light and Darkness Dragon is simply the best card currently out there.  The ability to negate the effects of anything coupled with its impressive stats and cool picture should make any fan-boy go all mushy inside, I know I do.  The point is that we have never had a monster this well rounded before in this game.  Light and Darkness Dragon is powerful, but his effects are nothing an intelligent/prepared player can't handle.  His ability preventing him from being special summoned, along with his field destruction and negation effects, two tribute requirement, and special summoning ability all make for a balanced creature.  He requires finesse and intelligence to utilize efficiently and punishes players for both wielding and fighting against him.  If Yu-Gi-Oh has ever produced a skill card, LADD is it.

As mentioned, the last shonen jump produced more of the same thing.  The same people winning with their version of what is correct to play.  One of the issues I had with many of the top 16 LADD decks was their lack of speed.  Nobody ran three LADD and no one took advantage of Trade-In with the exception of the Demise OTK.  I also found the lack of influence Shield Crush generated mesmerizing.  People talk about how fast perfect circle is, how quick these shonen jump top 16 decklist function.  In reality most of them are slow, most of them generate horrible openings, and most of them depend way to solidly on the graveyard.  Fact of the matter is, a gadget deck running triple Don Zaloog with spirit reaper, monster removal, shield crush, nobleman of crossout, coupled with Cyber Dragon and most players refusal to run actual defensive traps will lead to some pretty decisive victories.  These winning decks are slow!  I also find it quite redundant to hear players and see players running LADD, talking about how his summoning alters the entire state of the game, and then find out they are running 2.  I don't know about you, but I think three of them is quite synergistic.  If you summon two in one game, odds are your going to win.  With this said, I introduce you all to Destiny Dragon.

This deck powers through cards relatively quick.  Destiny Hero-Plasma functions both as fodder for Destiny Draw and Trade-In.  He also has a nice effect that provides additional field control when up in advantage.  LADD is also level 8, thus he too can be pitched with little or no regret if clogging our hand.  I personally think that a Monster Gate/Reasoning deck powered by some big tributes with triple D-Draw and Trade-In could function well due to Destiny Hero-Diamond Dude.  But this is obviously beside the point, a different article for a different day!  Concerning this deck, it gets to its power cards quicker than the current competition.  It succeeds in summoning LADD within the first two turns on a consistent bases as well as generating huge hand presence due to disk commander and DMOC.  The coolest part about this deck is how fast it generates tempo.  One of the issues LADD generates is his field clearing drawback.  He punishes the player with the advantage from committing to the field.  If they do an opponent could quickly generate more advantage from LADD's death then the opposition.  Running three prevents us from feeling guilty for sacrificing the dragon for Raiza the Storm Monarch when up in cards.  This destruction effect is also the reason this deck runs the three most important traps.  Anything else is simply asking for our dragon to backfire.  Destiny Hero-Fear Monger, Treeborn Frog, Destiny Hero-Malicious, etc. all provide quick tribute material.  Foolish Burial is at one due to all the draw cards.  It usually makes it to my hand when needed.  It is a waste if frog or disk commander have already hit the field, thus running one limits the number of bad draws.  Outside of this the deck is pretty standard.  It takes what works and makes it better adept at dealing with the competition.

All in all I find this deck interesting and fun.  More importantly it can power through itself with explosive turns full of drawing cards.  This is how destiny hero and LADD were meant to be played.  This is the true incarnation of Destiny Dragon.

I will be attending a regional this weekend.  I have not participated in a regional for sometime now.  As a result I would love to hear opinions on what I should play from my readers.  If anyone wants to talk or trade, I can be contacted at...
