Card Creations: Strike of Lightning

May 4, 2006

Since there were a lot of people who wanted to see ‘Card Creation’ Articles, I’m going to open up this new series. I like to write the Deck Analysis Articles very much, but a little bit of variation is good, too.

As said earlier, I’m doing this because I think that some themes or types in the Yu-Gi-Oh Trading Card Game aren’t supported enough (mainly Plant and Thunder cards). In these articles, I’ll try to come up with new cards that could support these kinds of themes. This might seem pointless, but it isn’t at all. I bet a lot of people would love to see some cards that support unsupported themes.

And even though I’ve said this before too, I’ll say it again: You, the readers, may also send in your own card ideas.

If you’re going to send in one of your own cards, please do it the way I explained it below.

A Monster looks like this:

Dream Fighter (Name)

Earth / Spellcaster (Attribute / Type)

Effect (‘Effect’ or ‘Normal’)

3* (Level)

“When this card attacks, you can pay 1000 Life Points to Special Summon one Spellcaster-Type Monster from your hand in face-up Defense Position.” (Discription)

ATK 1300 / DEF 1200 (ATK Value / DEF Value)

A Spell Card is done like this:

White Meteor (Name)

Spell / Normal (‘Spell’ / Type (‘Normal’, ‘Quick-Play’, ‘Field’, etc.))

“Search your Deck for one Counter Trap and add that card to your hand. You cannot activate this card, unless there are at least 3 Fairy-Type Monsters in your Graveyard.” (Discription)

Finally, a Trap Card is done like this:

Divine Rocket (Name)

Trap / Counter (‘Trap’ / Type (‘Normal’, ‘Counter’, ‘Continuous’, etc.))

“Discard one card from your hand while there is a face-up LIGHT Monster on your side of the field to negate the summon of a Monster and destroy that monster. Increase your Life Points by the same amount as the ATK of one face-up LIGHT Monster on your side of the field afterwards.” (Discription)

You don’t have to send me a picture of a card, that’s up to the reader’s imagination ;)

If you’d like, you can include the rarity of your card as well, but I might change that.

Also, please don’t send in way too overpowered cards. Creating cards with devastating effects isn’t what I’m trying to do with these articles. Of course, you can create a card that’s very powerful, but that only works in a specific (preferably unsupported) deck theme.

In these articles, I’m creating an entire package of 40 cards total. Now 40 cards might seem unusual and not many, but making up more cards would draw away the attention of some individual cards. And besides, posting a list of 60 cards would take a lot of space and it isn’t really fun to read. If you’re planning on sending me a card (or cards), I’ll put it among other cards in a package and if you’d like, I’ll write down your card name and your own name at the end of the article so that readers know who made that card up.

If you want me to do that, please say so in your e-mail. If it’s not said in your e-mail, I’ll write down ‘Anonymous’ as your ‘name’.

Also, there is no minimum or maximum to the amount of cards you send in. If you’re sending in 4 cards, then that’s OK. If you send one card, then that’s fine too. I’d love to hear your ideas, so if you’ve got any, please send them to me.

That’s all for the introduction of this article. Let’s continue with the actual package now.

Well, those are all the cards in my first package. Strike of Lightning is focused around Thunder-Type Cards, as you probably noticed already. There is a wide variety of Thunder Effect Monster in here, but most of all involve ‘paralyzation’, by which I mean that they prevent your opponent from doing things (like changing the Battle Position of a monster). But, this package also contains other cards than just Thunder Cards only. I’ve included some Insect Support (‘Savior Bug’ and ‘Grave Insect’) as well. This package also contains one main card, kinda like the ‘Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys’ from Flaming Eternity and ‘The Creator’ from Rise of Destiny. In this package, that card is ‘Lightning Enforcer’. He has some gamebreaking effects, but thanks to its two drawbacks, he only works in Thunder Decks and he’s quite hard to summon.

All in all, I think this is a package that contains some very balanced Thunder Cards; they’re not too powerful, nor do they all suck. The non-Thunder Cards in this package, like ‘Grave Revenging Virus’ aren’t too overpowered either. They are very well balaned and they’ve got some drawbacks that make them less useful in some situations.

I’d love to hear your opinion about this article. I’m not sure if it’s wise to continue this serie, since I don’t know what you think of it, but if you like it, I’ll surely keep on writing new articles. And don’t forget to send in your own cards! I bet the readers would like to see how other people think some themes should be supported. If I would be the only one, then it would be just my opinion here.

IF I’m going to continue this, I think I’ll be posting one article of this serie in about every week, maybe once in two weeks.

My main goal on this site still is convincing people to use original and fun decks, so don’t think that I’ll stop with my Deck Analysis Serie.

Finally, here are the card names that other people have thought up:

Card Name:

Card Creator:

High Voltage Eel   (SOL-020)

Drake Clawfang

Polymerization #2   (SOL-027)

Cameron Waud

Lightning Charge   (SOL-040)

Drake Clawfang
