RikotheFoxKid on Yu-Gi-Oh!

Introduction
September 29, 2014

Hello. I believe we’ve never met. Or maybe we have, and I’ve just forgotten.

I’m RikotheFoxKid. Most people call me Riko. Some call me by my real name, Kyle (though generally only those I know in real life). I am a longtime resident of Pojo. I started viewing the site in 2007, and formally joined the forums in August of 2008, after migrating from YugiohCardMaker. As of my writing this, it is September of 2014. I’ve been here for quite a long time.

Over the course of my time here, I have done several things. I have uploaded many Deck Profiles that I uploaded to my YouTube account to this site. I believe they are no longer here, but you can still find them on YouTube, under the same name I use here. I believe there are flaws to using YouTube as a medium for Yu-Gi-Oh!, a point which I plan to elaborate at a later time.

I have been a member of the Card of the Day team twice (and currently am). In August of 2014 I became a moderator for the forums. I have succeeded Baneful in overseeing the Forbidden/Limited List Discussion Board, though really all that means is that I established the Guidelines.

In terms of the game itself, I have played several Decks over the years, ranging from Macro Monarch to Lightsworn to Mermail (my personal favorite) to Shaddoll. I believe I specialize in Deckbuilding and theory. Overall I have a solid understanding of the game as a whole, but I feel I am somewhat weak in actual performance; I have attended several regionals, but have only ever topped one.

However, I will not deny: I think I am pretty good at the game. I have been considered the best player at my university since my first year (the playerbase is overall casual, but we do have a select few competitive players). I made it to Day 2 of my first and currently only YCS. Several players I would deem above me have noted my abilities. I was even lucky enough to take a match off of Patrick Hoban himself at ARG Washington, DC. He got me back the next day at the 1K event, but I still technically have an even record with him. :P

That’s not to say I’m not humble; I will be the first to tell you that in the grand spectrum of things, I have a long way to go.

So, why am I writing for Pojo? Of all places, why pick the site that is deemed by several people as a cesspool of awful players? Why not try writing for a place like TCGPlayer? Or why not try and become noteworthy at someplace more “prestigious”, like DuelistGroundz?

Well, for one, I tried posting on DuelistGroundz. That didn’t end well. To keep it simple, I don’t like the atmosphere of that place. And I’ve had an incredibly bad interaction with one of their users.

But the other reason is that once upon a time, I was awful too. I look back at my old posts, even ones from only a few years ago. And I cringe. It took a long time for me to get to where I am now. But you know what? I got better by posting on Pojo.

This place is not as bad as people make it out to be. Are there people who aren’t good? Yeah, more than a lot of other places. But that’s because the atmosphere of Pojo is supposed to be warm and friendly. That’s why I liked the site so much when I joined. Sure there are always the jerks, but as long as you aren’t downright stupid, and are willing to learn and accept criticism from others, most people can warm up to you.

I improved my game a lot by reading what was here. I had never even heard of DuelistGroundz or Alter Reality Games until after I had received my regional top in March 2013. That was all Pojo.

At the end of the day, I’d probably still be considered bad. I’m not some high profile player; I’m still a random. But I’m okay with that. I’m okay with knowing that I’ve gotten much better over the past six years, and will only keep improving.

DuelistGroundz is where the strong weed out the weak. Pojo is where the weak learn to fight back against the strong. (I totally stole that from someone on the forum, but I forget who. Sorry. .___.)

If I can improve greatly by learning from this site and this site alone, then others can too. And I’m going to write so I can help them in that endeavor. I’ve been told I present myself well, so hopefully this works out.

So, welcome to my den.
