Umbrella Corp. Project Mako
DDR- Duelist Dinosaur Ryuzaki
January 6, 2005

To start off I’d like to say I’m sorry for not making another article until now but that was because I haven’t been on a computer lately. Since my first article was Mako’s deck, I decided to make the first few articles will be of the weaker duelist of YuGiOh. So today I’m making Rex Raptor’s deck. So before I get going I’d like to say this deck is a tribute to one of many others and my friend, Ryusaki.

To start off we all recall Ryuzaki (Rex), much like Mako and a few other characters, has never been seen ever in the whole series, winning a duel. Losing to Weevil for the title, being easily confused by Mai’s eromatatics, literally telling Joey to use Time Wizard against him, and lastly losing to a no body Espa Roba (though he was cheating so well not count that against Rex) didn’t give him a great reputation. Never appearing again in the manga he was sadly sent to the abyss of the filler arcs, DOMA and the Kaiba Corp Grand Prix, which never existed in the manga. One positive part of this horrible experience as comic relief was the fact that he got to use new stronger Dino’s that had never been made until then.

Fun things to point out about Rex-
-He is one of only two characters from the original anime to wear a hat. (I’m looking at main characters and I’m not counting Grandpa and Bandit Keith’s bandanas or Shadi’s turban.)
-I already pointed out he has never been shown winning a duel.
-His hat had been changed from a circle with nothing written on it to his original uncials DR.
-In the manga he strictly use Dinosaurs, except for Red Eyes Black Dragon, never using Serpent Night Dragon, but actually loses a weird looking dino to Espa.
-My favorite thing is more about his card Twin Headed King Rex, which is referred to as the strongest dinosaur in his deck in the beginning of the series.

Personal Favorite Quote-
“No defends on their first turn!” (This actually had me pondering for a while and I had made a thread on the message board because of it.)

As you can see I decided to give my article a little more about the characters so my articles could be bigg…er… I mean inform you about the character to the fullest of my abilities. XD. Now since that’s done on to the list of past cards and like usual half his cards have never seen the light of day in America except for video games. On a side note I follow both the anime and the manga so that you don’t get confused. ~.-

Rex Raptor/ Dinosaur Ryuzaki-
Red Eyes Black Dragon
Serpent Night Dragon
Twin Headed King Rex
Megasaurus*
Uraby
Sword Arm of Dragon*
Crawling Dragon #2 (Both say dragon but are dino, that makes me chuckle a bit)
Black Tyranno
Balloon Lizard
Gilasaurus
Trakadon*
Tyrant Dragon
Chitoptera*
Giant Rex*
Horned Saurus*

*Not released in America (some not even released in Japan)

A large amount of weak normal monsters that have never been released, what else would you expect from a person who you only see duel in Duelist Kingdom in the manga. But we can make this work. XD. First off I’m sticking with the fact that his name is Dinosaur Ryuzaki, which means he is meant to run dinos and not dragons. The major card will be Black Tyranno.

Black Tyranno
EARTH/ Dinosaur/ Level 7/ Attack2600/ Defense1800
If the only cards on your opponent's side of the field are Defense Position Monster Cards, this card can attack your opponent's Life Points directly.

I card that can only be used effectively with a large and hard combo. See Black Tyranno falls under the card type of Rocket Jumper and Drillago where if your opponent’s has a card in their magic/trap zone or field zone the monster doesn’t get to attack directly even if the other part is fulfilled. This set back makes our friend less usable but not impossible to use. It takes three other cards and a few other back up cards to help out a bit.

Ojama Trio
Spatial Collapse
Gravity Axe- Garl
Swords of Concealing Light
Giant Trunade

Simply make sure their field is filled with ojama tokens and play trunade to wash the field of magics and traps. Then play spatial collapse (yes I know it’s a trap but look at the sequence and you’ll notice that when play trunade that’s your turn and then you set it and play it as a chain with their draw phase) and then your opponent won’t be able to play anything. So lastly you get Tyranno out and equip it with Gravity Axe- Garl on it so ojama tokens can’t suicide into the Dino so they can play a card.

Well as you can see how it’s somewhat hard to pull off but only the spatial collapse will be a horrible draw since the other cards do help out all kinds of cards but are just not used enough. If you can do math it will only take three attacks to finish your opponent with it though.

The Second card is a great Dino that can be Plan B.
Dark Driceratops
EARTH/ Dinosaur/ Level 6/ Attack 2400/ Defense1500
During battle between this attacking card and a Defense Position monster whose DEF is lower than the ATK of this card, inflict the difference as Battle Damage to your opponent's Life Points.

Well as a plan B it’s pretty good. See as I said already we’re going to use Ojama Trio so when those suckers are in defense mode you can destroy them and do a total of 1700 damage. Having an attack as strong as Mobius and better then cyber dragon and goblins it has the perfect attack points, which I look at when looking at monsters. What else is there to point out, it has trample and is a level 6 monster… the end.

Now for plan C…

Tyranno Infinity
EARTH/ Dinosaur/ Level 4/ Attack ?/ Defense 0
The original ATK of this card becomes the number of your Dinosaur-Type monsters that are removed from play x 1000 points.

We always are facing the wrath of the D.D. monsters and with this card your opponent will regret send your monster out of play earlier in the game. But I seriously wouldn’t feel right putting a soul release or something in the deck just to increase this very situational card. But I will add one Bazoo in the deck just for some extra power for both of them. An extra thing to point out about this card is the fact that if equipped with megamorph and you have less life points depending on how many dinos are removed.

Side Help-
Hyper Hammerhead
EARTH/ Dinosaur/ Level 4/ Attack 1500/ Defense 1200
Hyper Hammerhead is a very good card if you attack a stronger defense monster it will send it back and if you’re facing a stronger monster slam it into the monster and send it back to their hand after the damage. It’s a weirder Drillroid and actually has some better points then Drillroid (yes they aren’t exactly the same but still they have similarities). And when in defense its effect still sends the monster back to their hand. Sending cards back to the hand has been somewhat of a lost strategy but was a huge theme before soul control. If anything this card disserves 4 out of 5.

As you can see the combo with spatial collapse isn’t the central point but ojama trio is. This deck was one of the hardest characters to make since there are some many possible ideas, so the only way to have it look correct is to have a side deck with multiples of the cards that are used in the combos. I’d like to point out that I neglected to use Hydrogedons because it’s not Ryuzaki but Misawa’s.
In an up come week I’ll have five day’s straight of Kaiba’s decks. This is because so many people wanted Kaiba and I have to many decks for him. Also in March is my birthday so that whole month will be Ghoul’s month. Those are my future plans so send in your request to fill in that gap. Lastly I was told at gunpoint (not really) to give props to Megaa but I also want to give props to Ecks, KuroKarsu and Aki Chan. So until next time, good luck with your dueling.
Mako ~.-
