Umbrella Corp. Project Mako
“It’s On Random!”
January 10, 2005

For those who are as big of a zombie fan as I am, would know that this title comes from Shawn of the Dead. Though the title is random I think this deck works with my theme of losers… Bonz. He wasn’t given a last name in the anime but in the manga he’s known as “Ghost” Kozuka. He lost to both Bakura and Joey (both of which YamiBakuraFan runs in OCG… hmmmm) and is mentored by Bandit Keith (another loser… but we still have YuGiOh R to wait to see if he wins at all there). Simply put Bonz is somewhat like my little brother who tries to mimic YamiBakuraFan and mine evil ways but falls extremely short.

Interesting Things about Bonz-
-His deck in duelist kingdom is criticized by Keith and then remade by him.
-One of his friends and him pop up on Seeker’s (Rare Hunter) computer of duelists. Bonz’s rare card is Call of the Haunted and his friend’s is Flame Pegasus.
-He wore a mask to scare the guy in the graveyard… Did he need it?
-Great Mammoth of Goldfine was named after a person who works for 4kids
-Through my research Bonz’s friends’ names are Sid and Zygore

Favorite Quote of Bonz-
- The whole scene with him getting angry with Bandit Keith for making him summon weak monsters.
- Also whenever he says zombie in the anime… it sounds so cool.

*Not out yet

Well we all know Bonz’s deck idea… right? Well for those who haven’t seen this, Pumpking the King of Ghosts was set up so it would power up only Dark Castle of Illusions and Dark Castle powers up zombies. Now logically I should just switch them but Dark Castle of Illusions is Panics card so I don’t plan to do that. I’d also like to point out that of most his cards are self explanatory so instead of talking about zombie support which also is easy to understand I’ve decided to base today’s discussion on normal monster support.

Enchanting Fitting Room
Spell
Pay 800 Life Points. Pick up 4 cards from the top of your Deck and Special Summon to your side of the field all Level 3 or lower Normal Monsters among the picked-up cards. Return all the other picked-up cards to your Deck and the Deck is then shuffled.

Ah one of the best cards when building decks with weak normal monsters. Most people think that decks like that are ether useless or don’t exist but I’ve managed to make a few, all of which used this to deck thin and swarm. This card has a payment much like premature burial, and though it only targets level 3 and lower normal monsters, it can special summon up to four of them to the field. With it you can set up a large field to help the next card I’ll talk about. Though it does have some benefits it can backfire, making you pick up four cards that may have helped you and then having to shuffle them back in your deck, all for the cost of 800 life points. My suggestion is to only run two per deck.

Sword of the Soul-Eater
Spell/ Equip
You can only equip this card to a Level 3 or lower Normal Monster on your side of the field. When you activate this card, Tribute all Normal Monsters (except Tokens) on your side of the field, except the equipped monster. Increase the ATK of the equipped monster by 1000 points for each Normal Monster that you Tributed.

Now that you’ve read the card you can see why it works so well in this deck, along with Enchanting Fitting Room. Even with only one other weakling out, Dragon zombie becomes a 2600 killer. This of course is worse case scenario, other then have nothing to sacrifice and this in your hand. To simply put it this card will come in handy but it’s better to use in ones or sometimes twos.

Soul Resurrection
Continuous Trap
Special Summon 1 Normal Monster from your Graveyard in Defense Position. When this card is removed from the field, the monster is destroyed. When the monster is destroyed, destroy this card.

Unlike the past cards this one applies to all levels, thus making it more useful. The ability to special summon from the graveyard is one of the best card effects out in the game. The problem with this card is the fact that it comes back in defense mode. The strategy for our Bonz deck is to use this card effectively with the Sword of the Soul-Eater and Ectoplasmer so that you can quickly shave your opponent’s life points down.

A Little Extra Help-
Des Lacooda
EARTH/ Zombie/ Level 3/ Attack 500/ Defense 600
You can flip this card into facedown Defense Position once per turn during your Main Phase. When this card is Flip Summoned, you draw 1 card from your Deck.

Since the new format has taken away both Pot of Greed and Graceful Charity, we duelists need to use new cards to draw. I personally gravitated to Des Lacooda. Unlike other cards like Dekoichi or Dark Mimic LV1 and 3 this card can be used many times in a row. The problem is you need to stall long enough to use it because unlike the others if attacked it doesn’t get its effect. This card is extremely useful in the Bonz deck since gravity bind and level limit area b is going to be used.

Personal Favorites-
Spirit Caller
Light/ Spellcaster/ Level 3/ Attack 1000/ Defense 1000
FLIP: You can Special Summon 1 Level 3 or lower Normal Monster from your Graveyard to your side of the field.

Emissary of the Afterlife
Dark/ Fiend/ Level 4/ Attack 1600/ Defense 1600
When this card is sent from the field to the Graveyard, each player selects 1 Level 3 or lower Normal Monster from their Deck, and adds it to their hand after showing it to the opponent. The Decks are then shuffled.

These work very well in Bonz’s deck, though are both used by Jinzo (Android Psycho Shocker), who has a dueling style much like my own. Emissary almost acts as a second Sangan for this deck and spirit call easy grabs a zombie back to defend you life points from a second attack. Both show tremendous potential and in low-level deck types like this one they are extremely versatile.

Here’s a quick summary of the deck. First off I’d like to point out some substitutes that work here. First there are three smashing ground because the zombies a relatively weak so to get by your opponent you need to kill their monsters. These Smashing Ground are meant to signify stop defense since stop defense was what allowed Bonz to do any damage. Another substitute is swords of concealing light, which take the place of Nightmare Steel Cage until it comes out in the Spellcaster Deck. The general idea is to utilize the Ectoplasmer and smashing ground to destroy your opponent’s field, while drawing your hand up until your able to deal a large amount of damage by special summoning a bunch of zombies from your grave and deck. I’d also like to point out that I had not used Pyramid Turtle because I thought that the Enchanting Fitting Rooms and Des Lacooda brought the deck enough speed.

Before this article is over I’d like to say sorry to huge GX fans, because I’ve yet to write or have even thought of writing a GX deck. It’s not that I haven’t made any of the deck, because I own two Misawa (Sebastian) deck, three Manjyome (Chazz) decks, Haytao’s (Chumley) deck, Sho’s (Sirus) deck, and am working on many more, it’s because I really like the idea of writing about the past characters that I started off with. I will attempt to throw some of my awesome GX decks into my section soon enough. Lastly I was shocked that I forgot to give props to OkageRyu in my last article. I’d also like to say thanks to MariksTruePower who’s been working with me on making our Marik decks close to perfect.
Until Later,
Mako ~.+
