We Want You!: Enlist Today
September 25, 2006

If you don’t want to hear something political, skip this article.  If you live in New England, read this.  If you live in Rhode Island, read every word.

I’m a student at Brown University and there is no dueling community here.  I didn’t think about that when applying to schools, it would’ve been nice, but it wasn’t important.  I’m currently going through withdrawal and I needed to ask myself what I wanted to rectify this problem.  I want to establish this community in Rhode Island.  Currently the only place that hosts tourneys in this state (regional, duelist league, preview) is in Johnston, Rhode Island, and I’m not feeling up to traveling out there for a lack luster regional, that will probably just be swallowed up by Mass. kids.  So, how can we go about infusing this 60 mile state, with some energy?  Easily!

  • Talk to your friends
Get your friends interested in this and make them aware of the fact that there is such a small environment for duelists.  The more you can collect the better!  We need to make a strong front on this and show people that there is a community out there interested in this.
  • Talk to your comic book stores
I’m not familiar with the area so I don’t know much about where to go to buy cards here
(I buy online).  I’m more than certain that there are places in RI that we can go to duel.  Start discussing with owners the idea of opening up small league play and registering with UDE.  Once that gets big enough (which if you followed the first step, it will), then you can talk about hosting regionals and bigger things.
  • Advertise serious dueling
Lets make it known that there is a higher realm of dueling and that it’s something we can all get involved in.  Many younger kids think playing without sleeves is cool and that adding the magnet warriors and Valkyrion to any deck is a great idea.  Well they’re wrong, show them the error of their ways.   A great way to do this is to showcase great sites to your friends and duelists that you see such as pojo, metagame and dmcomet.

I’m serious about this guys.  I’m tired of living in a city with its own news station but no comic book store that offers regional or hobby tourneys.  Providence is more than large enough to host something bigger than what it’s got going right now.  So, I’m taking my first step into this by establishing a team.  The name will be decided, but I’m taking applications.  I’d like this team to be based out of Rhode Island, Northern Connecticut and southern Massachusetts.  The team will be built off of the following discourse:

To establish a strong dueling Community in Rhode Island and the greater Providence area

To establish a team presence in New England

To create a card base for duelists to share and encourage the success of all members

To create a solid play-testing community

Friendship!  Yay!

If you’d like to apply send me an e-mail with the following:

Name:  First and Last

State:  Just where you’re from

UDE Ranking:  If you don’t know this, it’s ok, I’d still like it if you do

Favorite Deck Type:  You can state more than one

Credentials:  Top 8s, locals, regionals, nationals

Do you have a card shop that would be willing to house us?

I’m dead serious about this.  I’m 15th in this state and I haven’t dueled in a big tourney in over a year.  That’s pretty unacceptable.  Lets change that now!  Awesome send your applications to my e-mail and Happy Dueling!
