Dark Paladin's Yu-Gi-Oh! Dimension
An In-depth Look at Cloudians
11.15.07

Hello again to Pojo and Yugioh fans one and all! I'm back with my third article, and this time I'll be looking at another new set of monsters from Gladiator's Assault, the Cloudian monsters.

GLAS-EN005
Cloudian – Eye of the Typhoon
Wind Level 8
Atk 3000 Def 1000
Aqua/Effect
This card cannot be destroyed by battle. If this card is in face-up Defense Position, destroy it. When this card declares an attack, change the battle positions of all face-up monsters, except "Cloudian"
monsters.
Super Rare/Ultimate Rare

This is the big boy for Cloudian monsters. 3000 attack and Level 8, he changes the attack position of all face up monsters except Cloudians.
A respectable effect, unless what you want to destroy is all ready in the mode you need.

GLAS-EN006
Cloudian – Ghost Fog
Water Level 1
Atk 0 Def 0
Fiend/Effect
This card cannot be Special Summoned. All Battle Damage to either player from a battle involving this monster becomes 0. If this card is destroyed by battle, distribute new Fog Counters equal to the Level of the monster that destroyed it among face-up monsters.
Common

Ghost Fog has a Neo Spacian Grand Mole type effect negating damage to either player when destroyed. He is fairly useless, but distributes Fog Counters when destroyed.

GLAS-EN007
Cloudian – Nimbusman
Water Level 5
Atk 1000 Def 1000
Fairy/Effect
This card cannot be destroyed by battle. If this card is in face-up Defense Position, destroy it. You can Tribute any number of WATER monsters for the Tribute Summon of this card. When this card is Tribute Summoned, place 1 Fog Counter on it for each WATER monster you Tributed. This card gains 500 ATK for each Fog Counter on the field.
Common

1000 attack for Level 5 is ridiculous. To get it to be respectable, you would have to tribute three monsters, just to have a 2500 attack monster than can't be destroyed by Battle. Not the greatest thing in the world.

GLAS-EN008
Cloudian – Sheep Cloud
Water Level 1
Atk 0 Def 0
Fairy/Effect
When this card is destroyed by battle and sent to the Graveyard, Special Summon 2 "Cloudian Tokens" (Fairy-Type/WATER/Level 1/ATK 0/DEF
0) in Defense Position. These Tokens cannot be Tributed for a Tribute Summon, unless it is for a "Cloudian" monster.
Super Rare/Ultimate Rare

Sheep Cloud has 0 attack and 0 defense, but it wants to be destroyed, to give you a little tribute fodder for your bigger or tribute monsters. A necessary little piece for your deck.

GLAS-EN009
Cloudian – Poison Cloud
Water Level 3
Atk 0 Def 1000
Fiend/Effect
When this face-up card attacks or is attacked, and is destroyed by battle and sent to the Graveyard, destroy the monster that destroyed it, and then inflict 800 damage to your opponent.
Common

We have a winner here, and it seems to be a bit poison, as it's name implies. When destroyed, it destroys the monster that destroyed it, and inflicts 800 damage. A one for one with damage? Not bad.

GLAS-EN010
Cloudian – Acid Cloud
Water Level 4
Atk 500 Def 0
Fairy/Effect
This card cannot be destroyed by battle. If this card is in face-up Defense Position, destroy it. When you Normal Summon this card, place 1 Fog Counter on it for each "Cloudian" monster on the field. You can remove 2 Fog Counters from this card to destroy 1 Spell or Trap Card.
Rare

Acid Cloud falls just short of being good, in my opinion. Adding and moving Fog Counters is good, as they are good helpers to the Cloudian deck, but it should be abl to destroy a Magic or Trap card for ONE counter...not two.

GLAS-EN011
Cloudian – Cirrostratus
Water Level 4
Atk 900 Def 0
Fairy/Effect
This card cannot be destroyed by battle. If this card is in face-up Defense Position, destroy it. When you Normal Summon this card, place 1 Fog Counter on it for each "Cloudian" monster on the field. You can remove 2 Fog Counters from this card to destroy 1 monster on the field.
Rare

The same thing can be said for Cirrostratus as the previous card.
Adding and moving Fog Counters is still good, but the cost to destroy a monster should still be only ONE counter...not two.

GLAS-EN012
Cloudian – Altus
Water Level 4
Atk 1300 Def 0
Fairy/Effect
This card cannot be destroyed by battle. If this card is in face-up Defense Position, destroy it. When you Normal Summon this card, place 1 Fog Counter on it for each "Cloudian" monster on the field. You can remove 3 Fog Counters from anywhere on the field to discard 1 random card from your opponent's hand.
Rare

All right, Altus is where things start becoming ridiculous. Removing three counters...yes, three? Just for your opponent to discard one card? These monsters do good things, but the cost just seems a bit too high.

GLAS-EN013
Cloudian – Turbulence
Water Level 4
Atk 800 Def 0
Fairy/Effect
This card cannot be destroyed by battle. If this card is in face-up Defense Position, destroy it. When you Normal Summon this card, place 1 Fog Counter on it for each "Cloudian" monster on the field. You can remove 1 Fog Counter from this card to Special Summon 1 "Cloudian – Smoke Ball" from your Deck or from either player's Graveyard.
Common

Garbage, absolute garbage. It does replace itself...with a monster that has 200 attack and no effect. Pass.

In short, I believe this is another excellent attempt at starting a decktype, but they need more support, and a few more monsters with some better attack, and maybe some effects that aren't quite so costly.

That does it for today, and please feel free to e-mail me with anything @ tsearcy@lssu.edu

You stay classy, Planet Earth :)

~Dark Paladin~
