“Newgioh” was an attempt in 2015 by the Yugioh community to construct a new format with Goat Format (Summer 2005) as a base, but it never took off.  Several issues plagued it. 

·         It made too many changes to Goat format for Goat purists.

·         The banning of BLS Envoy, Ring of Destruction and Premature Burial made life points less of a resource. 

·         Cyber Dragon, even at 1, made too many monsters obsolete. 

·         Dimensional Prison at 3 made other traps (especially Sakuretsu Armor) obsolete. 

·         Shield Crush at 3 made Flip Effects underpowered. 

·         Cards like Fencing Fire Ferret and Ryko Lightsworn Hunter seem fine by today’s standards but were very dominating by 2005 standards.  Allowing new powerful monsters to be ran in 3’s in general made deck lists linear and simplistic.

 

In all fairness, it wasn’t trying to be a faithful Goat format, but ’m going to make an attempt at a proposal which revises and expands the Goat format in numerous ways, but still stays faithful to the format.  I will add cards to the Forbidden/Limited list to fix the problems of the format while also allowing a list of new cards to expand the card pool and variety of decks. 

 

Forbidden/Limited List

 

I will not ban BLS Envoy or the Trinity (Pot, Graceful, Delinquent).  I will not limit Tsukuyomi, Scapegoat, Metamorphosis or Thousand-Eyes Restrict.  In spite of my own personal views, I recognize that these cards are iconic and defining for the format; touching any of them would foster too much disagreement. 

 

Instead, these revisions are focused on curbing FTK’s, excessive stalling and decks entirely based on OTKing.  We can all agree those decks are degenerate and only serve the purposes of winning without player interaction and wasting peoples’ time.  This list is to be applied in addition to the official April 2005 list in a pre-Exarion pre-CRV Goat Format.  Some may feel like these changes don’t go far enough, but I’m trying to tread lightly.

Expanded Card Pool

 

The following is a list of cards that would be added to the beta version of my custom Goats + format.  It’s certainly open to revision and I’m open to constructive feedback. 

 

The goal with this list is to make tier 2-3 decks viable and to fill other little voids which the format lacks.  Deck types supported by this expansion include: WATER, FIRE, Insect, Gravekeeper, Harpie, Zombie, Plant, Spellcaster, Dragon, Fiend, Machine, Beast.  Chaos/Goat should still be the #1 deck in this format because I don’t want to disturb the framework of the format, but these decks should at least be able to give it a run for its money. 

 

You may observe that some benign cards are limited/semi-limited, but I’m erring on the side of caution because I want to tread lightly.  I don’t want to make established cards in this format obsolete.  For example, I’m careful with my addition of LIGHT/DARK monsters because they’re a necessary component for Chaos.  I’m also careful with cards that destroy set monsters because I don’t want to undermine Flip Effects.  Most of these cards are monsters because adding too many Spells/Traps may undermine the framework of the interactions between the basic staples (i.e. adding too many removal traps may result in the opponent not being able to calculate when it is safe to attack).
