Todays COTD is Last Will. An old spell card that
lets you special summon any monster with 1500 or
lower attack from the deck if another monster goes
to your graveyard from your side of the field.
Currently on the forbidden list and with good
reason. Before the 5D's era of the game, Last Will
was a safety net. Play it at the start of a main
phase and then if your opponent destroyed your
monsters during the main phase or battle phase,
you'd still be able to recover and have an option to
After Synchro summons were introduced as a new
mechanic those many years ago, monsters were being
sent to the grave more often than the past. And the
situation with Last Will has only gotten worse from
there. More effects and summoning methods send
monsters from the field to the grave than they did
before, and more archetypes would enjoy the luxury
of pulling weaker monsters straight from the deck to
set up game winning boards.
It's never been errata'd despite it becoming more
powerful over the years and highly unlikely that it
will rejoin Sangan and Brionac in the land of
useable cards. It's only drawback is the normal
spell status, and if it ever came off the forbidden
list you run as many as you're allowed.
