Cyber Angel Idaten

While currently the Cyber Angel deck can’t do without Idaten, I believe she’s going to be quickly outdated. While all the Cyber Angel ritual monsters have dual effects, only Idaten and Benten activate effects when tributed. So, on the surface, she seems to be a necessary presence. And I understand that current Cyber Angels lack the power to compete against many other decks. Even the non-cyber components like Saffira and Herald are comparatively weak, so the attack boost seems to be an important ingredient. But the Cyber Angel theme isn’t complete yet in the TCG, and it may not even be complete in the OCG, as we just were informed of a new ritual spell and monster for Cyber Angels being released in the Raging Tempest set.

The point is that the new support for Cyber Angels that’s coming is really, really powerful. Like Raigeki-combined-with-Super-Soldier-Shield strong (Vishnu) or Monster-Reborn-combined-with-Change-of-Heart strong (Nasateiya). When you start using those beasts, Idaten falls by the wayside. I think she could still be used as tech, simply because she’s the perfect level for certain plays and could be useful when you have a plethora of ritual spells, but she quickly becomes lackluster the more you draw her instead of her more powerful sisters, especially since rituals have so much search at the current moment. As for Idaten’s review of her impact right now, she is pretty good, especially when her ATK boost is granted to Herald. But the attack boost is much like the equip spells of old. Completely unnecessary when all is said and done. Idaten will be replaced in good time, and Cyber Angels will only get better.

Cyber Angel Idaten

This card is not very good for offense or control, but it's more of a combo card.  Let's do the math.  Ritual spell + LV6 monster for Tribute + Idaten (in hand) = 3 cards.  The Ritual spell pays for itself.  Idaten replaces itself with a search, but essentially, you're just left with a 1600 beater and 2000 DEF wall for 1 card.  It doubtful that you'll swarm enough Ritual monsters to the point where its tribute effect becomes practical.  Some Ritual/Fairy-hybrid decks may want this card for consistency.  Mostly, it's a means to an end.

So far so good, until now. Cyber Angel Idaten is a Level 6 Light Fairy-type Ritual Monster with 1600 Atk and 2000 Def. The stats don't measure up for the effort that summoning this would require. Upon successfully summoning this, you can search a Ritual Spell from the deck to the hand. It's good that you can also get a used one from the grave, but it's way easier to just summon Manju and not worry about the 200 Atk point difference. The second effect triggers when it's tributed for anything. After you tribute it, you can boost your Ritual Monsters by 1000 Atk and Def. Having two effects is good, but Cyber Angel Idaten is a combo card for a deck that can expend resources quickly. I'd avoid, but there is a dearth of Cyber Angel options, so try one.

Score: 2/5 There are better options now and in the future.
Art: 5/5 Still Sexy despite the attempt to cover up.
