Pojo's Yu-Gi-Oh! Card of the Day
Daily Since 2002!

The Fang of Critias
- #DRL2-EN006

(This card is also always treated as "Legendary Dragon Critias".) Send 1 Trap Card from your hand or your side of the field to the Graveyard, that is listed on a Fusion Monster that can only be Special Summoned with "The Fang of Critias" (if that card is Set, reveal it), then Special Summon that Fusion Monster from your Extra Deck. You can only activate 1 "The Fang of Critias" per turn.

Requires itself and another card to work, which is an improvement on the inherent -2 of Polymerization.  The problem is that the selection of cards to fuse Critias with is quite limited.  Tyrant Wing isn't good.  Crush Card Virus (now errata'd) is situational.

Mirror Force (which is thankfully at 3) actually does make a great combination into MF Dragon, but you still need to have Fang and MF at the same time.  And that still would really only be 1 good target.  I'd be tempted to run 3 MF's and 2 Critias in a fun deck, but that's it.

Situational card.  Good for fun duels, but not good in general.

The Fang of Critias was the coolest Legendary Dragon.  He looked the most badass and had the best Fusions (Mirror Force and Doom Virus Dragon...Tyrant Wing Dragon wasn't very special though).  Anyway, as reference, this Legendary Dragon lets you fuse this card with a Trap card, from your Hand or side of the Field listed in a Fusion with the mentioned cards (if said Trap is Set, you reveal it).  You can only activate one Fang of Critias a turn.  The Legendary Dragons are pretty sweet.  The Knights are awesome too.  I am kinda curious to see if a Deck of either/or would be competitive.  Nice to get cards from the original show though.

Hello Pojo Fans,

The Fang of Critias revolves around Fusion Monsters that are Tra-based. Three targets available, but in actuality, there is only one target that is a legitimate target and that is Mirror Force Dragon. You have to run the trap that is connected to the Fusion Monster you want to Special Summon, and the best of those three cards is Mirror Force. You can run it in 3's and it's always a live form of protection. Crush Card is now watered-down and limited to 1. Tyrant Wing is restricted to Dragon-Type monsters, and while you can run 3, it isn't close to how good Mirror Force is.

You can set the trap in question, but have to show it when you use it with The Fang of Critias. If you choose Doom Virus Dragon, you will get a better use out of its effect than you would with Crush Card alone, it is the weakest of the 3 Fusion Monsters that are under Critias. Tyrant Burst Dragon has some good ATK power, can attack all monsters your opponents controls, and can be used as an equip to a monster to allow it to attack 3 times with a +400ATK/DEF. Mirror Force Dragon is still the best though. If a monster(s) gets targeted by an opponents attack or card effect, you can destroy all cards on their field. Not just monsters in attack mode like Mirror Force does, ALL cards they control, including set cards. It has the most destructive capabilities, and while it doesn't negate the targeting effect of the card activated, it still wipes the opponents field clean.

Miguel

We end this week with a card that got Seto Kaiba out of a few jams, The Fang of Critias. A spell card that doubles as both Legendary Dragon Critias and Polymerization. You can use this card and one of three trap cards (Crush Card Virus, Tyrant Wing and Mirror Force) to summon one of three fusion monsters (Doom Virus Dragon, Tyrant Burst Dragon and Mirror Force Dragon). But those are cards for a different review. Fang Of Critias is needed so if you plan on using any of the above listed dragons, Fang is a must. I hope we review those three monsters soon.
