Pojo's Yu-Gi-Oh Card of the Day

Number 8: Heraldic King Genom-Heritage
- #ABYR-EN045

2 Level 4 "Heraldic Beast" monsters Once per turn: You can target 1 face-up Xyz Monster your opponent controls; this card's name and original ATK become that monster's name and current ATK, and this card's effect becomes that monster's original effect, then that monster's ATK becomes 0, and its effects are negated. These changes last until the End Phase.

Shifting from Counter Trap to XYZ, we look at Number 8: Heraldic King Genom-Heritage.  This is a Rank 4 XYZ Monster, specifically XYZ Summoned with two Heraldic Beast Monsters.  Also, this is a Light attribute Monster, of the Psychic-type, a Monster type I consider to be very under appreciated.  Genom has 2400 attack and 1800 defense, though via its effect, which note isn't accomplished by discarding XYZ Material, nor is anything else...lets you target an XYZ Monster your opponent controls and assume its name, and its current attack.  That's awesome, as it doesn't take the Monster's original attack, but whatever it happens to be, obviously me assuming its higher.  That could backfire if it were lower, but I'm assuming you aren't going to target a weaker monster anyway.  Furthermore, the targeted Monster's attack goes to 0, and these changes stay in effect until the End Phase of the turn.  If you're playing Heraldic Beasts, you're playing this, maybe even a couple.  It's a really fun Deck, and can be equally annoying to play against.

We are going to look at a card from a new sub-archetype called Heraldic Beast’s from the Heraldic archetype. Number 8: Heraldic King Genom-Heritage requires you to have 2 level 4 Heraldic Beast monsters on the field to summon it, so we need to have a plan for accomplishing that. Probably the best and fastest way to summon Number 8 is to use Advanced Heraldry Art. Art summons two Heraldic Beasts from the grave and automatically Xyz summons. As all of the Heraldic Beasts are level 4 monsters, Heraldic King is a prime target. Heraldry Change will special summon a Heraldic monster then end the battle phase and Reborn Heraldry works like Monster Reborn for Heraldics. As many of the Heraldic effects banish Heraldic monsters, Return from a Different Dimension works well to special summon monsters, while Monster Reborn and Call of the Haunted get Heraldics on the field from the graveyard.

Mission accomplished. Once Number 8: Heraldic King Genom-Heritage is on the field you can turn your opponent’s Xyz monster against them. The effects of Heraldic King are nothing short of amazing. First you get their Xyz monster’s attack and effect. Then that Xyz monster’s attack becomes 0 and has its effects negated until the End Phase. Number 8: Heraldic King was made to defeat just about any Xyz monster in the game.

The issue with Number 8: Heraldic King Genom-Heritage is that it is only good against Xyz monsters and is a 2400 beat stick otherwise. You can also only use it on your turn, so you are probably only going to knock off one Xyz monster with it. It can also only be used in a Heraldic deck which doesn’t get support until the Cosmo Blazer set is released in late January. My ratings will be reflective of the aforementioned.
