Daigusto Phoenix, who relates quite well obviously to the Gusto cards we reviewed just a short while ago.  We have a Rank 2 XYZ Monster, of the Wind attribute, with 1500 attack and 1100 defense, who is a Pyro.  Which I suppose is appropriate given the Phoenix name.  So it's going to be a short one today folks...by discarding an XYZ Material from this card, you can target a Wind Monster you control to attack twice in the selected turn.  Dark Simorgh comes to mind, but I'm not sure if anyone even plays him.  Harpie Decks might be able to use this, and of course the Gusto itself, but overall, I don't see this as useful, even in it's own Deck.  The effect is mediocre, the attack frankly sucks (despite only being Rank 2).

Today’s card, Daigusto Phoenix, fits a theme that we are seeing these days with Xyz monsters. By detaching a material, Wind monsters can attack twice. Now you’re thinking that there must be a use for this card. There has to be a reason it was created.

The first thing that comes to my mind is Fairy decks with Venus and Mystic Shine Balls. If we can get three Daigusto Phoenix monsters on the field we would have 9000 attack. All we need to make this happen is a Plaguespreader Zombie in the graveyard and three cards in hand along with The Agent of Creation – Venus. Summon Venus and use it’s effect to special summon three Shine Balls. Special Summon Plaguespreader and Xyz summon Phoenix with it and a Shine Ball. Use Daigusto Phoenix’s effect and send Plague to the grave as it is a material now and does not get banished. Do this two more times and now you have 9000 attack plus Venus and if you have another card in hand, you can summon a level 5 Synchro monster Like Catastor to get rid of your opponent’s monster.

There are a number of monsters that would love to have Daigusto Phoenix as a partner on the field including Stardust Dragon and Dark Simorgh and a number of ways to get two level two monsters to the field like Deep See Diva and Nimble Momonga. You’re probably not going to see Daigusto Phoenix in an Extra Deck unless it is in a deck designed for it or one that plays a lot of level 2 monsters. It does open up some pretty nifty OTK possibilities though.

Today's card is a first in the game. As Daigusto Phoenix is the first ever WIND/Pyro type monster. A Rank 2 Xyz, needing any level 2 monster to Xyz summon. Once per turn, you can detach one Xyz material from this card to target a WIND monster you control, that turn, that targeted monster can attack twice during the battle phase. Cards like Nimble Momongas and Giant Germs are good to get out this card quickly. Rescue Rabbit and Deep Sea Diva work with it as well. A good WIND monster to target is Stardust Dragon, as well as Dark Simorgh and itself. This card is capable of a lot, including working in an Ojama deck. Overall, this card can fit itself anywhere and cause a few problems when used at the right time. Not bad for a little Rank 2 Xyz that's not Gachi Gachi Gantetsu.
