Pojo's Yu-Gi-Oh Card of the Day

Machina Gearframe
#SDMM-EN002

When this card is Normal Summoned, you can add 1 "Machina" monster, except "Machina Gearframe", from your Deck to your hand. Once per turn, during your Main Phase, you can equip this card to a Machine-Type monster you control as an Equip Card, OR unequipped it to Special Summon this card in face-up Attack Position. (A monster can only be equipped with 1 Union Monster at a time. If the equipped monster would be destroyed, destroy this card instead.)

Machina Gearframe ...

Well there isn't a WHOLE lot to this card. He fits his theme very well ... Earth type Machines - the Machina.
I kinda like this group. And of them - he's the 2nd best. Specifically because he allows u to grab any other Machina monster from your deck when summoned. 9 times out of 10 u'll be grabbing the Fortress. Depending on what the field looks like and what else u have in your hand - u can probably them special summon the Fortress to the field too, so now u have an 1800 ATK Monster and a 2500 ATK monster on the field. Attacking a clear field with a limiter removal, and that's game. Yep - Gearframe is pretty good in his specific deck.

Somebody PLEASE combine the Machina with the Ancient Gear monsters somehow? ... Please?
Cool. Thanks!

Machina Gearframe, the Elemental Hero Stratos for Machina mosnters. Solid 1800 attack points and can equip itself to a Machine monster you control. If the equipped monster would be destroyed you can destroy Gearframe instead. Simple effect, and very handy. You can add Machina Soldier or Machina Fortress into your hand, which lets you special summon Machina Fortress really easy, whether it be by Fortresses ability or Machina Soldier later down the line. There isn't much else to this card, being a Union monster you could use Frontline Base to special summon it but you couldn't use its ability to search out a monster, however if you search out another Machina Union monster like Machina Peacekeeper, then use Frontline Base to Special Summon Peacekeeper to the field and equip it to a monster. There's a lot you can do with Machina Gearframe, definately a must for any Machina deck.

Otaku

Machina Gearframe starts out fairly normal: a Level 4 Earth/Machine with 1800 ATK and 0 DEF.  It can access Machina support, Earth support, and Machine support.  It can be dropped into play and swing for decent damage.  It is very weak in defense position, but that’s really the only dud stat and being a Machine is good compensation.

Now add in a useful theme supporting effect: when Machina Gearframe is Normal summoned, you get to search your deck for a Machina monster and add it to your hand.  The only restriction is it can’t search out itself (Konami has learned from Elemental Hero Stratos).  That cements itself as a must in Machina decks.  It seems simple: get a good beatstick and a great search card.

Yet there is one other part to this card, and it shows Konami is also learning when it comes to Union monsters: this is one!  Instead of starting out as a Union Monster, saddling it with low stats and maybe giving it a great effect, they start with a good deck specific Monster and tack it on at the end.  Once per turn you can equip this card to or remove it from another Machine monster.  If the monster it is equipped to would be destroyed, Machina Gearframe is destroyed instead.  Until now, I considered Heavy Mech Support Platform to be one of the best Union monsters: while small it was insurance for your best Machine monster.  Adding a solid body to it is very tempting, and gives Machina Gearframe reason to show up in just about any Machine deck.
