Rescue Cat

Possibly my favorite card in the game (I have a growing collection of them in my binder <3). Rescue Cat has always been asking to be on the restricted list. He had a little-known OTK years ago involving Last Will and Milus Radiant, then came back as an OTK machine with Summoner Monk and Dark Strike Fighter. Now, he’s still capable of pulling off wins out of nowhere, but he and his cohorts have been restricted heavily.

Rescue Cat is a 4-star EARTH Beast, with 300 ATK and 100 DEF. Sending him to the Graveyard summons two Beast monsters with 3 stars or less. They are destroyed during the End Phase. Due to his effect, you should never need to worry about his stats, but they do matter. The ATK is low enough to search him out with Sangan. Having 4 Stars means you can summon him with Summoner Monk.

There are two reasons to use Rescue Cat: Gladiator Beasts, and Synchro Summons.

First, you can summon Gladiator Beast Samnite or Test Tiger with Rescue Cat. Summoning multiple tigers lets you repeatedly tag out your already on-field Gladiators to get two tag-in effects instantly. Summoning multiple Samnites lets you hit hard, then get two new monsters afterwards. Summoning one of each lets you get any one Gladiator effect instantly.

Secondly, you can use Rescue Cat in a huge number of decks based around Synchro Summons. X-Sabers and Synchro Cat variants are the main ones. Both use X-Saber Airbellum and other beasts to tune instantly off of Rescue Cat. In X-Sabers, your other beasts will be XX-Saber Darksoul, and maybe Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter.

Synchro Cat variants have more variety. They still use Airbellum, but the other beasts could be anything. Most of the time, it will be Ryko. Creative duelists will use other monsters sometimes, like Neo-Spacian Dark Panther, D.D. Crazy Beast, or Sea Koala.

Outside of the decks listed, he has still more uses! Rescue Cat fits well into generic Beast decks, Crystal Beasts, Ojamas, and Moja decks.

So, you’re asking, how do I stop the cuteness? Well, you can prevent his effect from activating with Dimensional Fissure or Macro Cosmos. And there’s Royal Oppression, as usual. Deck Lockdown can work, if you side that for Gladiator Beasts perhaps. Bottomless Trap Hole can hit the monsters summoned, and if they’re both over 1500 ATK, you’ll remove them both, too.

Art: 5/5 SO CUTE ^___^

Traditional: 4/5 Last Will, Dark Strike Fighter, Monster Reborn… I’m sure he can still OTK here.

Advanced 5/5 Such an amazing card, and useful in many decks. And just so cute!

Rescue Cat, arguably the cutest card EVER...even in a Beast Deck where it sorta belongs, is crap.  On its own, its just as much a piece of garbage honestly.  It has, or had OTK potential, but there's not much of that working right now either.  If you feel like making a really cute Deck or something, go for it.  There aren't many practical or tournament uses for this card.

Rescue Cat

This is a card that exploded onto the Tournament scene with the arrival of X-Saber Airbellum. It had been used before in the Beastdown deck, but it was not until Synchro cards came into the game that it really shined brightly. It is a level 4 Beast with 300 ATK and 100 DEF. These are abysmal stats, as even the lowly Spirit Reaper can take it out with no ill effects. However, he will not be on the Field long enough to go into battle.

The effect is simple. You tribute Kitty, and you get 2 level 3 or lower Beast monsters from your deck to the Field and they die at the End Phase. The ideal play used to be to get that one mad panda card with Ojama Tokens on the field to Pierce through for massive damage. Nowadays it is more, ah, Synchro Oriented.

Basically, you are able to Special Summon X-Saber Airbellum with it's effect, leading to two of the best decks ever made. The Synchro Cat deck and the X-Saber deck all rely on abusing Kitty's ability to get Tuner's as well as non-Tuners to the field easily and reliably. You can even reuse the effect by using recylcing cards.

This is probably tied with Thunderking Rai-Oh for the best level 4 monster in Advanced play. It is actually a broken card, and may need to get banned for all of the torubel that it has caused the Advanced Format. As of now, if you can abuse htis card, you do!

Friday: Rescue Cat

Rescue Cat was well designed upon release in Flaming Eternity. However, it really restricted the future card pool and I'm not sure if design even realized X-Saber Airbellum would work with it! I'm sure Samnite and Darksoul were conscientious decisions but it's gotten to the point where Rescue Cat is far too powerful.

All top Saber players in the USA describe the mirror as a rush to hit Cat, Faultroll, and Cold Wave as soon as possible. That is all. This card really needs a banning.
