Dark Paladin
Friday

Power Filter closer our week, a Continuous Magic card that I have some mixed feelings about. The effect is incredibly simple, neither player can Special Summon monsters with 1000 attack or less.

Now, while the effect is simple, it has some interesting ramifications for both players. This is a Continuous Magic card, so it has all the cons there of, however, this could be a good thing. There are plenty of monsters that both players use that use, yet not necessarily rely on, that have 1000 attack or less, in various Decktypes.

The Continuous aspect hurts, but in a Lockdown Deck, it could certainly have some potential. Try it for yourself and see what happens.

Power Filter

This is definitely an interesting card; blocking weak Special Summons cuts off some strategies. For example, it stops your opponent from Special Summoning Malicious, which cuts them off from easy Synchro Summons with E-Teleport and Krebons. Gladiator Beasts lose Murmillo (but not a whole lot else). I tend to prefer some other cards to this -- if I'm going to stop specials, I'd rather do it in a more dedicated way like Royal Oppression.

This card is one that can end up being good against a great deck later, but right now the big Special Summons are far over 1,000 ATK.

3/5 for future potential

Well, this card was never good. Even when countering Disc Commander, D.D. Crow was better. Sure, Gladiators can't use Murmillo or Hoplomus, but that is hardly a reason to play this card. In fact I would easily play Prohibition in threes over this card.

There just aren't enough 1000 ATK or less monsters that see a lot of Special Summon play for this card to be worth anything at all. Maybe in the future, but that of course means a bad grade now.

Todayʼs card up for review is Power Filter. At first glance, you may be thinking that this card is terrible, I beg to differ. Sure I cannot see it in top tier decks, but it can see play in  Anti Meta Decks. This card stops: Test Tiger, Destiny Hero Malicious thinking off the top of my head. Now there are better answers out there. Royal Oppression, and Vanityʼs Fiend will do a better job than Power Filter for hitting any special summoning and negate it.

If this card read "more" in place of "less" it would be a playable anti-meta card. Unfortunately, it doesn't. There isn't much this is going to stop. The only thing it will realistically stop is Destiny Hero Malicious but there are much better answers available like D.D. Crow.

Sorry to say, but there really isn't anything else to talk about with this card other than the best thing you can do with it is attempt to trade it if you have the misfortune of getting one out of a pack.

The effect can not be any more simple. Stop any special summon of a monster that has 1000 or less ATK, but in this game there is already a better card. Royal Oppression can negate every special summon that isn't in the damage step. Plus Royal Oppression is chainable, any of the big monsters in the game will not be able to use their effects and you've just saved your self from a large hit. This card is a continuous spell so it would work in the damage step, but when search with Mystic Tomato or Giant Rat, chances are it will be over 1000 ATK anyways. The only thing this card will stop is Treeborn Frog, but we have D.D. Crow for that anyways.

Pwii Ah...This card is the answer to monarchs. Or at least, AN answer. They have other cards that revive, but this helps a lot. Outside of a side deck though, it's not that great, and a dead draw in many cases.
