General Zorpa Black Rose Dragon

OMG, this makes Red Dragon Archfiend look like a scared little puppy. Not since CED have we seen this kind of field clearing power in a single monster FOR FREE! Basically you give up your 2 cards in order to nuke EVERYTHING. Well, Black Rose is the reason that Synchro decks can compete in Japan, as they have had the field clearing power of Black Rose for a while now.

Now BRD (Birdie from here on out) has very unimpressive stats, with a FIRE Attribute and 7 stars with only 2400 ATK, you are really only going to use her for her effect. When she is Synchro Summoned, you can choose to nuke the field, plain and simple. Everything goes, Spells, Traps and Monsters. This is what makes Black Rose so great in a Tele-DAD deck. They can now nuke the field with Rose, and then Synchro up Stardust or Colossal Fighter for massive damage.

The decreased reliance of Tele-DAD on Dark Armed Dragon is now palpable, as DAD is no longer the sole field clearer for the deck. This could also mean that the deck could run level 1 Tuners (Sinister Sprocket) or some level 3 Tuners ( Psychic Commander) in order to take up the amazing power of Black Rose Dragon.

Also, Birdie is a very good combo piece with Rose, Warrior of Revenge and Marauding Captain, which will get her out for a Normal Summon to nuke the field. I do think that a Warrior based Synchro deck now has a chance to shine, as they can now have access to BRD even easier than anybody else does.

The third dragon of the new series that also has an awesome effect. Black Rose Dragon has 7 stars which works with Dark World and some level 2 tuners. When this mighty dragon is summoned, you can destroy every card on the field like a Judgment Dragon, but Black Rose will go to. As long as you are using less cards than your opponent, when Black Rose explodes it will be worth it.

Its second effect is for plant deck users. Remove a plant monster from the grave and basically have Black Rose Dragon attack it for 2400 damage. It is also great against bigger monster like Goyo Guardian and Stardust Dragon. Reduce the attack of it and make sure it stays gone. Black Rose Dragon is one of the best answers to any monster no matter what position it is in. I believe that everyone will have a new favorite dragon to summon in future tournaments.

Dark Paladin

Tuesday

Moving along, we come to one of the enormous Dragon Synchro monsters of the new set, Black Rose Dragon. Black Rose Dragon is a Level 7 Synchro monster, Synchro Summoned by 1 Tuner and one or more Non-Tuner monster.

Black Rose Dragon has 2400 attack, (and 1800 defense) low for a Level 7, (but matches another Dragon...Red Eyes perhaps?) and with an effect slightly similar to Sacred Phoenix, with the same attack.

However, Black Rose Dragon can destroy all cards on the Field when Synchro Summoned. Some people are saying this card is as good as Dark Armed Dragon...some say better. For me, the jury is still out on this.

Don't get me wrong, something that clears the Field like this IS awesome. Black Rose Dragon also has nice Plant-support by being able to change an opponent's monster to attack position and lower its attack to zero by removing a Plant from your Graveyard.

Now, I like Dark Armed Dragon better than this card, still, because it is stronger, arguably easier to summon, and can destroy things, while slower, yet more reliably. Black Rose Dragon is still an awesome card...the name, the gorgeous picture...I just think we have better Synchros.

Ratings:

Traditional: 2/5 Not needed really with CED around.

Advanced: 3.95/5 It is a very unwieldly and powerful card, but I still like DAD-Teleport, and other Synchros better. You don't like it, too bad.
