Dark Paladin

Thursday

So, on the downward end of the week, we come to Arcana Force XIV-Temperance.  First, look for them (the Arcana Force monsters, there are several of them, to be included in the article I did/am doing this

week.)

Anyway, XIV (Roman Numeral 14 for the un-intelligent) Temperance does exactly what her name implies...she tempers the flow of a duel.  We have a 2400 atk (and def) Level 6 Fairy with two rather unique abilities.

First, during either player's turn, you can discard this card to the Gravyeard to reduce Damage you take from a Battle to 0.  Additionally, when this card is Summoned, toss a coin:

If the result is Heads, halve all Battle Damage you take, and if Tails, halve all Battle Damage your opponent takes.

This card IS powerful, as most of the Arcana Force monsters are, but it would suck to halve your opponent's Battle Damage.  However, many of these monsters requie coins, you might want to dust off your Second Coin Toss!

Ratings:

3.5/5 all around  You play it in it's own Light Deck, Counter Fairies, or not at all :)

Arcana Force XIV - Temperance

...speaking of wanting a Tribute monster's effect to not suck, we're saddled with another monster you Tribute for whose effect sucks.

Some of the Arcana Force cards are interesting -- typically it's the higher-level ones that have effects actually worth playing.  This definitely isn't one of those.  If you hit your coin flip, your opponent's battle damage they do to you is halved -- until they use a card effect to destroy Temperance, and the effect's gone.  If you miss your flip, all of your monsters are attacking for half damage.

This definitely isn't worth trying to get out.

General Zorpa Arcana Force XIV-Temperance

Hey, one of the good Arcana Force monsters. He has 2400 ATK and DEF, making him pretty strong. However, as with most monsters it is the effect that counts. You get to discard him whenever you would take battle damage and reduce it to 0. Sort of a HYPER Kuriboh. It does the same thing, but has more ATK and also has it's Arcana Force effect.

If you get the effect right, you halve all battle damage you take. If you get it wrong, your opponent's damage is halved. I just don't like Arcana Force cards. Luck is already a huge factor in the YGOTCG and I don't need to add more to it. My friends have to pinch me to play Snipe Hunter, a relatively safe investment. I think that this guy could replace Kuriboh, but Kuriboh is a DARK, and an easy way to add a DARK to the grave for that Dark Armed Dragon. Seeing as Kuriboh does not see play anyhow, I don't see how this guy would instead.
