Dark Paladin

Thursday

Splendid Venus is today's card, and I'm wondering what is so splendid, aside from the artwork.  Splendid Venus is a Light attributed Fairy type monster, as if you didn't guess.  This monster is Level 8, with 2800 atk and 2400 def.

Now, all Non-Fairy-type monsters lose 500 attack and defense points.

Interesting...all of them...your opponent's and your own, so you shouldn't be using this except in a very dedicated Fairy Build Deck.

However, the effect of Magic and Trap cards you control cannot be

negated.   That is also an excellent ability, as when you activate a

Magic or Trap card, you know they are going to work.  However, wouldn't it be more Splendid if your opponent's Magic and Trap cards didn't work.  Certainly, but that might be a bit too splendid.

WAHOOO! I love this card and I generally hate fairy cards. The ATK and DEF are good for a level 8, but the fact that she is a fairy is what is awesome. Valhalla, Hall of the Fallen is going to make people groan when you play this card. You get to Special SUmmon it for FREE. If a 2800 beater wasn't good enough, how about a power loss of 500 ATK and DEF for all of your opponent's monsters? This is what Venus does best, ad she can then kill any popular monster in battle, and gives the rather weak Fairy type some teeth. Artemis, Airknight Parshat, Neo-Ariknight and Harvest the Angel of Wisdom become powerhouses when this card is played.

The fact that Valhalla is searchable, and you can play 3 copies of Venus, leads to an opening play of Valhalla Venus almost as good as Stratos. You set up the field for your next turn, as well as forcing your opponent to make some tough choices. It is an even BETTER second turn move, meaning that those pesky Solemn Judgments are no longer an issue, as to the fact that she stops them from negating your spell and trap cards. It can of course be used to greatest effect in a counter fairy deck, and even against a counter fairy deck.

This card is so great that I am going to try and get my hands on as many copies of this card as possible before they are sold out. If you can back up Venus with some firepower in the form of SOlemn Judgment, Forced Back and Dark bribe, you may see an aggro Fairy deck at the top tables...

Splendid Venus

 I have internet access again!

Just in time for this interesting CotD.

Splendid Venus seems a tad odd to me. You see, there's a deck called "Counter-Fairies". In this deck, the whole point is to use counter-trap cards to negate your opponents effects and gain the effects of fairy type cards of your own. Now while this card may sort of help to advance that deck type, it seems to me that if it had been for Dark, it could have been a total shutdown for that deck.

In other words, this card can actually be a complete backfire to the deck it's meant for, should your opponent get control of it by some means. Just kind of seems odd to me that UDE/Konami would throw us a card that is it's own decks worst enemy and slightly beneficial ally.

Now the good news it that regular fairy decks can make good use of this card. This card stops Solemn, Bribe and pretty much anything that your opponent plans to use to prevent something. All in all, a powerful effect, but not quite powerful enough to warrant a two tribute monster. After all, Angel O7 had a rather devastating effect and doesn't really see play. Then again, Angel O7 had to be tributed to gain it's effect.

In the end, there are decks that can make use of this card. Unfortunately the effort you have to put into it to make it really useful isn't worthwhile. You'll most likely never see a negation card before this card gets blown away.

Traditional: 2.5/5 This is a format where you may want to run lots of negation.

 Advanced: 2/5 It is Trade-In'able.

Secret Rare

Todayʼs card up for review is Splendid Venus. This card falls under my: If you can get it out and protect it, its flat out amazing section. To shut down spell/trap cards with this is amazing. If you can stop effect monsters or protect your monsters from them, you will win for sure

I do see some problems with it though. It is gonna be rather hard to bring out, being a 2 tribute. And with the metagame, you wont have the two monsters to bring this guy out, so that hurts its playability.
